It started about a week ago; my brother was sick, but not very bad and got better after a day. I caught whatever he had around Saturday and had sore throat and stuffy nose. Nothing that bad.

Saturday night I had about an hour of sleep

Sunday my nose was stuffed all the way back to the mouth, I was coughing a lot and had a very sore throat.

Now, I was supposed to be doing a fundraiser for soccer where we sell gold cards, if you don't sell 20 cards, you have to do the 2 mile run in like 90 degree weather (which is pretty hot for Minnesota.) Since I was sick, I couldn’t go sell on days I had planned to go sell, and I only sold 8.

Sunday night I got little sleep

Monday morning I had to get up very early due to practice at 8 am. Usually I wake up at noon-ish so that’s early for me. About an hour into practice, I found I couldn’t breathe! I said, "coach I’m gonna sit out for a few minutes, I can't breathe right now." He said ok and I lay down by my bag. 20 minutes later I still hadn’t caught my breath, and I called my dad and got a ride home.

After that, I started cleared my nose, and my cough kept getting worse and worse. I was so tired at that point and couldn't get enough breath, that I got winded going up the stairs.

Later was the gold card blitz, we were supposed to show up and if we sold all the 20 cards we got to turn in the money and leave, if we didn’t we were supposed to go around in teams and had 3 hours to try to help our teammates finish off their 20. I turned in the money I got for selling my 8 cards and also the 12 cards I didn't sell and left.

I got 45 minutes of sleep

Yesterday, I was coughing up blood and was so tired I got winded getting dressed. I didn't go to practice and my dad went and told my coach that I would probably be out for a little while.

We went to the doctor and I had to have blood tests and x-rays taken. It turns out that the cold combined with my asthma (which is very light, i've never even used an inhaler) made it worse. I have to take a few pills and use an inhaler now. Also maybe there’s pneumonia, but we haven’t gotten the call if it is or isn’t yet. The doctor said I couldn’t play soccer for a week maybe two. I wasn't at practice, and that’s the day that they did the 2-mile run, which weighs very heavily on team placement.

Last night I actually got some decent sleep, maybe 4-5 hours.

This morning, I'm a little better, I’m not coughing up as much blood, and my throat isn’t as sore. But I look on my calendar and see that tryouts for soccer are TOMORROW and I wont be able to be there, so I don’t know if ill be on the team or not.

:( I wont be able to go to tryout, practice, or hang out with friends for maybe a week.

This sucks so much.

Carny doesn't like soccer players. They used him as a punching bag, both emotionally and physically, before he killed them all with the coach's sharpened femur bone.

Get well soon!

What the fuck is that? Punishment for not selling 20 gold cards? That can't possibly be legal?

'Course it can. This is the United States of America, after all.

This is absurd... that should be illegal. Especially with kids younger than 18 or something.

Edit: Nothing personal, but if God blesses America, then fuck God.

Absurd? Heh. On high-school sports teams here, they capped the number of hours per week and hours per school year that teams can have practices, in order to allow students time for studies and rest and all that. However, it's only a practice if there's a coach present, in the eyes of the law. So the coaches just choose student captains, and the captains direct the extra-extracurricular practices. Now, technically, it can't be held against you if you don't attend...technically. In reality, missing a captain's practice is the same as missing a normal, "legal" one.

And two miles would be nothing where I live. My former high-school's girl's lacrosse team is consistently rated first in the country by certain publications, along with some other schools (go figure), and they throw out three-four mile runs like candy.

Well, that's a flaw of the system then.

I did 6 mile runs before breakfast twice a week in the army, in pretty cold weather too. =)

Yeah, but you didn't have to sacrifice your period to do so.

Well, that's a flaw of the system then.

It's a federal rule, I think, and no one in the local systems are interested in correcting it. It looks nice on paper, and is useless in practice.

They're important for endurance sports like lacrosse and soccer, but for football (our version), where endurance is not especially necessary, as everything happens in bursts, they're meted out as punishment. Same thing in baseball.

Wow man, that's awful. Take some time in bed and try and make up for some of that sleep. Don't worry about the team and just get back in your health, if your coach is any good he'll understand and let you try again (the run that you were talking about). If not, that might not be the kind of guy you want to play under x.x

On a semi-related note, our soccer team started practice this week, so I guess it's somewhat universal. I always thought our school sports started way early....guess not :/

Sophomore

And the coach is quite an asshole so I'm staying worried.

It's not punishment for us, it's a reward for those that do to not have to.

Just die already. >_O

Don't get me wrong, I can run fast, but I'm a short distance runner, and depending on what place you come in in the run you might not make the team.
So when I run it, I run for a while then get tired and slow down and usually dont do to well.

Thanks a lot for all the well-wishing, people. I didn't think many people would care.
