First of all, why does'nt anyone hang out here anymore? I just got D2 a few months ago and now no one comes here! ha, just my luck. Anyways, why don't we have like d2 game nights, where people can like go in and have duels or soemthing, or do some baal runs? We could set up meeting times and such here. Thoughts anyone? Is anyone even reading this? lmao

D2 game nights would be cool. One thing we could do is organize teams of players, and play at a certain time weekly. The way it would work is someone (or someones) would put together builds for a team of characters that would fit together. They can have a theme (each a different element, 5 paladins playing together, whatever) but don't have to. It could be a 3 person team, 4, 5, 6, you could even get up to 8 I guess, but then it would be hard to have a time where everyone could play together. The characters designated for the team would play ONLY together. Usually rules like no rushing, no twinking, and killing every monster seen are used, and sometimes variant rules can be used too (no stat points used, no skill points used, play naked).

I would do it, I'm slowly getting back into playing Diablo.

I'd participate in these game nights.. but I never really play on Closed b.net.

If you mean you don't have any characters, we would make new ones for the team.

If you mean because of your internet connection... Is it really that hard to play on dial-up?

Moser
08-19-2004, 1:40 PM
Uhm.. Both. I really wouldn't have a problem with making a new character.. but my internet connection is worse then the average dial-up connection. 28.8.

GiaDragoness
08-20-2004, 8:49 AM
28.8? According to my freind chris, he used to have something like that, than he figured out he was paying like 40 bucks amonth for phonelines and internet, and cable internet (charter i think he said) was only like 50$ a month. Take your pick i guess.

Anyways, what are you guys' ideas? anymore? BTW grass, in temas, do you mean like time trials for certain acts, 3 on 3 teams against each other in duels, one person goes into kill andariel while a team of three people try to kill baal, whoever gets the kill first wins, A race to see who can get from the level 4 catacombs to the worldstone chamber the fastest with no warping or teleportation (you are free to kill any monsters that get in your way, not other team members, etc.), etc.

Anyone who has any ideas, or is interested, please post it here. Don't make me go into the member's lounge waving some red flags to get your attention ^_~ lol. jk.

AS I posted in the Website Ideas thread a little bit ago, maybe we should have some sort of challange once a month or something. The challange could be finding a certain unique item or what you said, who ever gets to a certain place first. In order to do this monthly challange thought, anybody would participate would have to start a new character. We would also need somebody we can trust [Neo] to inspect or somthing, make sure that they did the challange.

As to what you said Gia about the 2 teams.. Would those work because if there were two teams racing to get to another act would they really be able to do it? Because once one team kills Andarial then the other team is screwed. Unless you ment they were in seperate game? Please explain more. :P

GrassDragon

@Gia: The way I had thought the teams would work (and how I've done in the past) is everyone just plays together, once a weeks (or more often). It's not a race, or a competition, or a duel. Just playing the game.

This may sound boring, but that's why there's variants. Ever played in a team where everyone's nude? Me neither, but sounds CRAZY awesome (and hard).

@Moser: The monthly challenge sounds like a good idea. But aiming for a unique would be too easy. I would say we have to find a magic or rare item with specific stats (i.e. a short sword with somekind of leech and enhanced damage, but nothing else). We could even get really specific and say it has to be exactly this item (i.e. a short sword with 6% life leech and 23% ED).

Sounds cool!

Moser
08-20-2004, 11:56 AM
Eh, looking for an item with certain stats would be kindda hard. We could always look for a specific set and see who gets the whole set first?

GrassDragon
08-20-2004, 1:41 PM
Yeah, I understand it would be hard, but a set or unique is too easy I think, plus you run the risk of someone already having the item, and just using that. And if it's a monthly thing it should be hard right?

And they don't have to be high lvl mods, they could be easy ones to get.

Moser
08-20-2004, 1:50 PM
True.. but trying to find the whole set would be hard. But in order to do it they would have to be new characters. And even then they can the sets by trading with people, but thats just more fun. Maybe when Neo gets on he'll give us a suggestion or something.

Neo

The whole monthly contest thingy sounds interesting...

But at the moment the only thing I can think of is character leveling.

Ie: Start with a new character @ level 1 and race to see who can hit level 80 (it can be easy, but its not always) with rules like no enchant, no twinking, etc...

And like set it to be a different character a week, like sorc the first time (untwinked sorcs are hard ><) and such.

I dunno.

D2 challenges would be hard to put together becuase a major problem is that not everyone could do them.

Hiding items for people to find seems like it might be fun, but it would have to be a unique something that doesnt dissapear in 5 minutes.

Mmm... Actually that would be kinda fun O_o. Lol, search act3! (omg theres an act3?)

I dunno, challenges would be hard to put together for D2. I mean we could always have PvP stuff but thats boring :(

When I said "find" I didn't really mean in a specific game. Just overall. As in you have 1 month to try and find this item and bring it back to us.

Although hunting for an item in a certain game does sound fun.

Moser
08-21-2004, 1:15 PM
We could do some wort of treasure hunt type thing. Like post a list of items and see who is the first person to find them all.

GrassDragon
08-21-2004, 5:42 PM
THAT is genius. I like the scavenger hunt idea. Would the stuff be just items? Or other stuff too? Maybe it could be items, and a screenshot of a character skill sheet with certain points in certain skills, or a screenshot of a certain pack of monsters.

I dunno, just ideas, but I like the idea.

Moser
08-21-2004, 5:48 PM
Could be all of those things. We could list the skill and how many points they should have put into it, then have them post a screen shot. Then we should have items they should have and get a screen shot of that too.

btw- do i get karma for my genius ideas? jk :P

GrassDragon

Only problem I could see with this though is cheating. It's too easy to make a character with so many extra skill points on SP. Maybe we should have premade accounts, and a judge that has the passwords to every account. That way he could verify the screenies are actually from a Closed B.net account and not forged. And it wouldn't be your normal account (not saying a judge would take advantage of you, but maybe you don't want him snooping through your things) it would be an account made for this challenge.

And I already thought of that, but I must "spread it around more" first.

Moser
08-21-2004, 10:10 PM
First, what is SP? And second, you can't hack on closed. Maybe when Neo stops in again he'll have a suggestion.

GrassDragon
08-21-2004, 11:01 PM
SP is Single Player. And I meant you could hack up a character on Single Player, then take a screenie of that character and claim that it's legit.

Moser
08-21-2004, 11:52 PM
Oh. I knew that, I just figured it was some sort of character editor. Thats why we should get somebody to check out the character.. Like Neo, or somebody else we can trust. So therefore, they would have to make a legit character on closed.

Hmmm, I honestly dont know. I was just tired of not having any action over here, and that i missed out on CS game night, and now all these other game nights are going up for games i have barely ever heard of, let a lone, own them.

Ok, how about this:

We may all have to make new charicters for it, but i suggest that we all do a run through of boss rushes, with about 4 or 5 people, all with their best MF gear on. We would all log our experience points at the beggining, then, having everyone not allied, but not hostile, so we didnt share exp, we would go and do some act boss rushes, and whoever had gained the most exp by the time we kill baal, would be the winner, and all the other players would have to fork over all, or most, (depending on how we want to play) of the magical/set/rare/unique items that they found on the adventure, and give them to the winner. I think it would be rule that players could'nt pick up any items dropped until after baal is defeated, scores are tallied, then the winner could go back and collect. We would have to do this before the items dropped though, or we could have some moderator-type referees come in and pick up the items after us, then putting them in a pile for the winner?

Does anyone know if MF is cumilative with more people in tha game? If not, we could have some sort of moderator-type referee with a truck load of MF that would be there only to support.

Anyone interested in this idea, please post it here, or PM me. If this idea is do-able, I would like to get the d2 Game night up and running within the next week or two.

*EDIT: Ackies! I did'nt see we had a page two! lol. Yes, that scavenger hunt would be an excellent idea! We could have some sorc with teleport move into a random act, place it in a spot, even if there were a ton of monsters, lol, then the first person to find it wins. Nice idea. Any takers?

Hm.. The idea about experience could be easy to cheat on I think. Also, that would be hard to do.. I think the best thing to do would be to do a scavanger hunt. But that would be like finding certain items that we post an putting skill points into certain skills, ect. That could be a monthly challange. But for a D2 game night, we could just have people join a game then play away or something. Nothing real fancy about that, just making new character then running through the game?

GrassDragon
08-22-2004, 8:28 PM
Sounds good. I like the monthly challenge idea, and Diablo game nights are good. If we get enough people, we could do seperate nights for different themed teams like I have said before (nudist, no skill points, etc.)

Now we need a staff type (Neo) to say something on the subject...

I dont know, Diablo II just isnt setup for this sort of thing. In 09 there used to these funky games would play like people would where a sigon-helm type item and run around act1 (the person with the helm was supposed to run it back to his 'teams base' or whatever) and they would kill each other and the helm would drop and someone else would pick it up and then commence the running around again >< or something.

Since you cant do that in .10 thats pointless.

Lol :)

The whole cheating thing is moot:

When you take a screenshot all you have to is type "/users" on battle.net and then take a SS. On top of that, make sure you have the 'map' on (push tab if it is not) so that it lists a game name and/or password, thats an easy way to tell if its single player or not.

Dunno if that came out right ><

If anyone is going to cheat, then they need help, theres really no need to worry about it now, we can always field special cases.

Finding certain items has an appeal, like first person to find a Biggin's Bonnet within a weeks period of time 'wins' or whatever. The only problem is that people could trade for it and stuff... so I dont know. Even then atm theres not anything to be 'won' by 'winning' except the biggin's you found xD

As for refs, I dont see a need to have them atm.

I mean I could always check on certain characters if you wanna do an exp run until some level (just see them at level 1, and thats it >< lol)

But perhaps instead of these funky challenges we could have a few nights (or even one) a week set aside for a D2 'new characters' and like other nights for 'baal runs' and even another night for I dont know, like just questing or something.

There are a few people @ blizzforums who came together and have started to share mules and stuff on the new ladder (they also Magic Find together/apart and what not)

Hmmm, a capture the flag. THAT'S PERFECT!!!! Ok then, I am thinking we could do a capture the flag/helm/javalin or whatever. If anyone is interested or has any ideas on this, please post them. I would like to see if we can't do it this friday night. (the time is still up in the air)

Btw grass, what is up with you and playng d2 nude? lol

The only way that could work (I think) is if you have one item on only, designated as the flag (as Neo said). Then fill every space in your inventory with crap. Wait... that doesn't work. You can't do it. The item will be either in your inventory or on your body, and "tagging" someone to make them drop the flag can't be done.

You do know that playing nude means playing your character without any armor/weapons? Not as in, don't wear clothes when your at your computer :P

Neo
08-24-2004, 10:44 AM
Lol I would not serve to prove that kind of playing either! :P

Thats why I said in 09.

For it to work now youd have to have a good group of people who are honest (ie: you get hit you have to drop the helm) or some such. I dunno... :P

Well, would something like this work: All players are level 6 necros with corpse explosion, and equiped with normal javalins, nothing else. All players are reduced to like, 5 hp every time the respawn by some referee or something, this is so it can be a "one hit tag", or whatever. When someone tags another person with a javalin, that person dies obviously, then the slayer can use corpse explosion, thus gaining all items that person had, such as the hat. There would have to be an additional stack of javalins at the middle ground or whatever, so people could refill or whatnot. Thoughts anyone?
