My first attempt at 3D art using Cinema 4D. I've been messing with this damn thing all day -- and finally came up with something that was almost worthy uploading. Although I'm not too proud of them now, I think with some more practice I can become atleast half way decent.

I'm just going to post the links, because the images are in 1024x768 (they're not ment to be wallpapers, btw), and their size is pretty hefty as well.
-1st Render, 1st View (http://www.cerebralserenity.com/eros/works/randomthings/render_1_view_1.jpg)
-1st Render, 2nd View (http://www.cerebralserenity.com/eros/works/randomthings/render_1_view_2.jpg)

I'll post more tomorrow, if I decide to make any more renders, or find more interesting perspectives.
what the heck is it supposed to be???? a pair of wings or something???? it looks nice though, I certainly could not do it.
It really isn't supposed to be anything. I guess you could call it a newbie abstract.

The 2nd view, while more repetative than the first, looks better =). Interesting concept, I'd like to see how you spiff it up in photoshop with color and whatnot.

I like the first one more then the second, don't know why, but I just do, though they are both sorta the same.

But it'll all come down as to how you do the 2D on them, that's when they'll be really ready for showing.

I'm not trying to crap on your work, it's a good try, and I certainly can't do better...looks a little bit....rough? Unedged might be the word. Whoops! It's your first try though, good job :)

What dunchy said and.. it's bland. You need to spice it up in PS :)

Can't wait tho.

(PS: dunchy! Where's the thing in your sig that says "pronounced donechee with small d" that was the best sig ever! :))

they look like someone went wacko on some paper. i think it should be more of a solid object cuz i see a bit of conflict with the shards of paper. definately gonna want to put a material on that. maybe a metal but dont have the reflectivity to high. next thing to work on, and i always bug luuk about this, would be lighting. i can tell you are using the default lighting. what youre gonna need are 3 lights (key, fill, and back light). the reason for 3 is that it appears that your object is not infront of a background. with a background similar to what i had in this (http://www.angelfire.com/sc3/mcflurry_1982/images/3dlogo2.jpg) you would only need the key and fill lights. the ratios for the power of the lights are as follows: key=backlight, fill=.5key. now the back light is obviosly going behind your object. it is typically placed slightly above being level with the camera, but you do have a range of +or- 35degrees vertically for your placement of it. key and fill lights are placed between 25 and 40 degrees from either side of the camera. and as with the back light there is a vertical range of +or- 35degrees. vertical placement of the lights will also help to set a particular mood that you may want your work to have. the higher the placement of the lights there is a more innocent and possitive feel to it. and the lower the placement of them the more of a sinister feel. the color of the lights also can create and accentuate the mood or feel of the piece. now after reading all of that, eros, dont you think tsl should expand to having 3d modeling tutorials? ;)

Thanks all for your posts!

dunchy: I'd rather have people be brutally honest with my things rather than be all nice and lie.

mcflurry: Although I don't have a clue as to do what you just said, I do think TSL should expand into 3D tutorials, just not right at this moment. We're not even large enough to have a decent set of Photoshop tutorials. All in time. All in time. =)

Oh, do you know how to add textures in C4D? I'm clueless.

Crybaby: Maxton (http://www.maxon.net/index_e.html) is the creator of Cinema 4D. Although I'm sorry to say I didn't spend the $600 to buy this program. ;]

i know how to add textures in 3ds but not cinema 4d. luuk does though. after finals ill make pictures to go along with all that text i posted. i have at least 4 more 3d tutorials for 3ds and i have a friend i could try and convince to join and he has several more that are different from the ones that i know. and with luuk knowing cinema 4d he probably has a few and could translate the 3ds ones for cinema 4d and my friend and i could do vice versa for 3ds.

It took me about 10 minutes, with about 1 minute on the rendering.

Could you guys just tell me what you think of the renders themselves? I'm more than aware that they need to be photoshopped ;)
