View Full Version : Attempted Zerg strat vs computer

I don't know if this is a common strat to use with zerg (I haven't played on Bnet for so long) but I've used this against computers 1v1 and found that it beats them pretty frequently.

I start out with building no extra drones (sounds stupid, I know, but just keep reading) and mine up to 200 min. One drone goes to be a pool, while the others mine up. By the time the pool is up, 150 should be ready by then, and then all three larva can be popped into lings. I can usually achieve this 6 lings by 2-3 minutes.

The major disadvantages I see are if the attack fails, the econ is in a bad shape for a counter (I tried this in a three-comp melee as well, didn't record; the toss got spanked by the comp using this strat, and I only needed a pack of marines with no medics to finish him). Also, I can see some complications versus Terran Bnet players ganging up with SCVs (god, do lings hate those mechanical buggers) and stopping the rush.

However, all that aside, here are the replays.

Nuclear, first of all, you're friends with Sambo83 I bet, you frequently use "spank". Anyway, a 3-pool rush would give your opponent too much time, a 4 pool would be more effective and quicker (mining is 1/4 slower with 1 less drone, giving you 24 minerals rather than 32 a round). Look at it this way, you get minerals REALLY slow with less drones, so 3-pooling it would make it soo slow that if your opponenet would be 4-pooling you you'd lose and have no chances of doing anything because you couldn't make zerglings fast enough.

Hope this helps ;).

That's what I was thinking. I guess that would work a little better to get my econ off the ground once I got the lings out. I'm still trying to migrate away from maps like FPME and BGH, so at least (I hope) it's a good start...

Oh, and the spank thing is sheerly coincidental. I figure its the next best word outside of 'rape' for use in SC (and honestly, rape when used alongside aliens? *shudders*) :D

Do you really get satisfaction out of a win vs a computer when you 4 pool rush. It takes no skill and takes all the enjoyment out of the game. I don't know about you, but I play this game to have fun, and I see nothing fun about winning the game in 3 minutes using a strategy (if it can even be called that) that allows you to have attacking units way before your opponent, where at the same time, if your attacking units die, then it's game over for you b/c of no income. Why don't u just use the cheatcodes and do the "attack the comp's worker with your worker b4 they have troops to make all his workers stop mining and chase your worker around the map" trick?

spdstr:
1) I am not friends with newbies.
2) You can't 3 pool as you have 4 drones when you start. His crummy build is in fact a 4 pool, so please learn what you're talking about.

Sambo... you can 3 pool if you kill 1 with the three you want to survive :D however i would not reccomend this strategy...

No, it doesn't help, it doesn't help at all. A 3 pool isn't even friggin possible, where the hell do you come up with this stuff?

SORRY! I meant a 3-pool to be (3 drones, 1 Spawning Pool) which is what you were doing, sorry if you call it a "4 pool", jeesh. Then what you SHOULD do is what I called a 4-pool (4 drones, 1 Spawning Pool) which you call a "5 pool". SO DO A "5 pool" AT LEAST.

P.S. Jeesh, don't get mad at me if my "noobishness" as you may call it gets into what I'm saying. You're just being smartasses because you know what I mean and just trying to piss me off, IT WORKED!

You learned what a 4 and and 5 pool are though, and you'll never forget, right? Good. Then I did my job. I taught you something.

Simmer down, not a big deal.

=> Yes this is known as a 4 pool. It really doesn't work because the other player can simply use his workers to kill the Zerglings in the beginning. Even though he'll lose a few workers his economic status will be a lot better than yours and you'll have lost.

I remember getting rushed with Zerglings in a 2v2 on bloodbath (Sambo was my ally). As Staind said, he took out a few of my Probes, but he was well and truley screwed for the rest of the game.

if u 4-6 pool and win against good player, no 1 will want to play with u, and ud be considered a huge newb

Yea Schwitzer.. I think I posted that replay on the forum somewhere... I'm not sure though.. it might have been the other one. I know we had one really good 2v2 on blood bath which I posted in one of the 2v2 threads because someone had a question about how good 2v2s are played. :)

(Although staind would consider us newb 2v2.. kekeke... my zerg is "total newb level" according to him :))
