Would You Pay $5 for a BW Tourney?

I have been tossing some ideas around, and I am curious if people would be willing to pay $5 for an online BW Tournament.

The tourney would be monitored fairly closely (likely obs in every game) to try and prevent hacking (and we're looking into some programs to assist in that).

The prizes would be something to the effect of:
1st 65%
2nd 25%
3rd 5%

Then we'd have to see about the last 5%. We'd lose money transferring stuff over paypal, but if we had enough to cover those fees, we'd give the rest to whoever got 4th.

Like I said, it's something I'm considering, and I'm trying to gauge the interest.

No way personally. I don't want to be mean, but the fact is this: I don't know anyone personally except two peope that I play with. That means I can't trust you fully. I, quite frankly, can care less if a thousand people say 'You do what you say you will do,' because that, in the real world, means nothing until you prove yourself. Personally, I stink at SC melee and the like. UMS, however, I can do. That's about it o.O.

I didn't try to be mean, if it sounds that way, but it's one of those things I wouldn't do. Besides, why use money? I can set up and play tournaments anytime I want, truthfully... o.O

Me personally? No, not unless I thought I had a decent chance at winning. Because I can always play on battle.net, and that suffices. Personally, i don't want to embarass myself, so you'd probably have to pay me to get me in the game.

But you know Redcloak, I think the money is quite nicely divided. I'm sure that a lot of people who are confident in themselves will most probably want to enter your tournament.

I would pay $5 to play, but the prize would not be worth it since I know of a certain Admin who is hosting this tourney to which his credibility is questionable.

Haha, DC you kill me. I've given away over $200 in prizes to the Brood War community, out of my own pocket. I've never had any complaints about that. I'm not worried about people trusting me really, SCL and myself carry plenty of weight in this community to let people understand they are dealing with a respectable entity, and since most of these people don't have petty feuds that they let color their view of people, it won't be a problem.

Actually, this is a side project that I've recently cooked up myself, I think you'll be pleased with the new things coming at SCL too.

I'm not worried about people trusting me really, SCL and myself carry plenty of weight in this community to let people understand they are dealing with a respectable entity, and since most of these people don't have petty feuds that they let color their view of people, it won't be a problem.

A $50 donation to a vB license for a certain community is nothing to sneer at, my dear Administator. I have not gotten anything in return for my generousity from SCL other than being put on the front page to SCL new. That was my reward for my generosity? To have my name placed on the news? Looks like I had gotten the short end of the deal.

And I wasn't made a staff member because of my contribution, so you can just drop that excuse altogether, because if was TheHeadRoach who had asked me if I wanted to be a staff member back at BF1 and the contribution was never even brought up between Roach and I. Once BF2.0 was up Roach, who was an admin at that time, was the one who reinstated my account (since I had registration problems and I had asked him to make an account for me and pass me the password through IM) and appointing me as Moderator for the General Forums section.

If it was in person, like a lan thing, sure. But online with a paypal setup, I just couldn't, I would have a hard time trusting the winners with all the map hacks out there, plus me not knowing most of the entries.

It is, and I'm sure I'm just being paranoid. There's allways the one person that has to ruin everything for everyone if they hack right? Then you get the arguements and defense about what happened and it can turn into a mess. That's why I enjoy Lan gaming more, allthough it's the geekiest sounding party in the world.

This is definitely a concern. Although I haven't decided upon the precise manner in which we'd prevent abusing, I am working on things.

At the very least, we would review all replays for suspicious behavior. Ideally, I'd like to have obs in all games (or people to review replays) along with using BW Sentinel (http://www.bwchart.net/us/sentinel.php). I am going to try to get JCA to let us use it, but if not, we'll go for some other thing, as it now appears that we will have the tourney, eventually.
