Do you have any idea how much it will be?
TranquilNightElf

Somewhere around the vicinity of 10 dollars I think, though it's not finalized as to exactly how much or whether or not there will be other schemes of payment.

A shame Blizzard is going to ask a monthly fee to play WoW online. I hope they aren't going to do the same with StarCraft. Do they actually have plans to ask a monthly fee to play StarCraft over Battle.net?

Once again, WoW and starcraft/warcraft are completely different Genres of Games.
Wow being a MMORPG requires different type of upkeep and maintenance than starcraft/warcraft over battle.net.
There are threads here that carry such debates that you may find intersting.
for example
http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=3158
And I'm assuming you're talking about any Starcraft II games that Blizzard may plan to make, because Starcraft(and Warcraft) over battle.net is already free.

Yes, basically what TNE said. You have to consider the fact that there is a live team of employees working in the game, making sure that it is cheat proof, and just generally maintaining law and order :P
Don't worry, SC/WC/Diablo will not have monthly fees, as Battle.net is a free service. SC2, when (if) it comes out will most likely be a "pay-for-the-box" game, as, generally, different types of "cheat-proofing" is used for RTS online games in comparison to RPG games.

It's a shame really, because it is a good, serious topic, which that richard dude managed to wreck :(

I was basically just annoyed about their new way of making money.

Yes I suppose it can be annoying, especially when you have to pay 10 bucks for a month with no gurantee that you'll be able to play the game every possible moment if you're not a power gamer.
But I'm sure that there will be other modes of payment, for example buying in bulk or haveing a year's subscription at a discounted price etc as suggested before.
By the way a different type of MMORPG, Guild Wars will be available for Pre- order in sept with Beta in October this year. It has no monthly fee but plans to have different chapters and has a different style of gameplay than WoW

I want an offline version, with no updates, and no other people and hence no lines for the bank or competitors for my fishing stream. :P

Yes that would certainly be more than the ideal solution :P

It's what they have to do though, otherwise WoW wouldn't be able to actually compete with any other MMORPG's as well as be a huge drain on Blizzard's reasources. It's annoying, sure. But how else do you want them to maintain an online game? It's what they have to do, otherwise WoW might not have even been able to exist in the first place.

why don't they try go get the same monthly price for wow as it is for anarchy online,, like 73dollars for a year I think,, and thats a good price.. thats the first online game I was willing to pay for,... 12-15 is the price they can pay if you only order it for a month at the time..

How about Blizzard doing a WoW single player campaign available to those people who buy the boxed version of the game. It could also include 1 month subsciption to the online service. It may take quite a bit of effort but for those people unable to play MMORGPs they'll get a lot more customers, and perhaps higher reviews.

X_x. I see so many people with this idea that a single player campaign would be feasible for WoW, but it's just not the case. World of Warcraft is a 'Massively Mutliplayer Online RPG". In other words, it relies heavily on a community in order to make the world function properly. Attempting ostracize the online gamers//community from the game would not work. I can assure you that you would be bored to tears, and likely not want to play WoW, if they decided to make a single player campaign.
It's really just not that type of game. Beside, it would take a lot longer for retail if they had to make a single player campaign now. I think more people would be happier if Blizz put their efforts into finishing talents and tweaking the game to avoid abuse, overpowered characters, etc.

The fee usually draws away non-serious people who are just there to fool around and get in some quick fun. You get a larger group of more serious players -- and to most people who are willing to pay the fee, it's more fun.
$10 isn't that high of a fee per month. I mean it may seem like it -- but It's really not. If they didn't charge a fee, there's no way WoW would even exist in the first place. (Or at least, in the form it's taking)

Sad to say it, but most of the retards found on B.net are my age and younger. Hopefully, most of these people will be filtered out by the pay-to-play system, but there will be exceptions, just like in any serious game.
Maybe in the future there will be a Warcraft RPG similiar to D2, but to want a SP campaign for WoW is pretty hopeful. Look forward to the future though, for all those who cannot play WoW.

I'd still rather have them bill you at the end of the month for all the time you played so that you don't pay for more time than you use or don't buy enough.

If its $15 for 3 months I certainly dont care. And even $10 a month isn't too bad. Just imagine a couple of cinéma tickets a month costing £4 each. Thats still a saving. Pay per use would also be great because I'm at school most of the time so I'd save quite a bit of money.

Ed wonders how the battle.net is free.
if the battle.net is free with ads why dosent the blizzard put ads on top of wow so wow can be free!

Each time I think about this, it's sounding better and better. Let's assume it's the "higher end" of whatmost people are thinking, around $15 per month. Assuming that they don't limit your time, that's an average of $.50 a day to play as much WoW as you can handle. Compare that with $4 an hour to play at BattleLAN/your preferred computer game "arcade". If you play 2 hours a day, that's really about .25 per hour. Not bad at all, if you ask me. Just take a little off your lunch money every day and you'll be albe to pay for it :p

well yea but if there is other things for like my country lithunia it's like 1 dollar is 3 litas [our money] so i only get 2 litas every day i go to school so i would have to starve if i want to play WoW... and other thing i don't have a card... so the thing of these payments really suck... but everyone wants to get rich...

Well, obviously, this isn't the only way to do it, it's just my comparison. If you get an allowance or something, chances are you can save up that kind of money pretty easily. Since I used to pay $16 for 3 hrs at our BattleLAN, $15 for a month, is well, pretty good. We used to go once every couple of months, so it evens off. And babysitting my little brother all the time helps, too.

I don't get it...
if it is a test, why must you pay for it???
But I want it so much, but I live in the netherlands so how much is it in Euro's?

You do not pay to participate in the Closed Beta, you need to be selected for that (:'(). There will only be a monthly fee once the retail version of the game has been released (which will probably be around November in North America, probably a little later for Europe). Hope that helps :)
