Radlin and I have been wanting to get a bunch of people together to play a night of Counter-Strike for awhile now, so here we are!

Alright, basically how this works is if you want to play, PM me or Radlin, or just post in this thread. The server WILL be password protected, and you'll need to sign up to get the 'pass.

Server name: WarBoards CS Server 1.6

Server IP: Will be PMed to applicants.

Maximum number of players: 10 players (15 players is possible, just not recommended).

Map order: de_dust, cs_assault, de_dust2, de_rats, cs_office.

Date and Time (subject to change): Saturday, August 14th, 2004, at 7:00 PM EST.

Meh. I have the game and I'd love to play....but im behind a university firewall. And theres no real way to get around it. Pity too, because im not all that bad, even if we only play against other in the college.

NOOOOO!!!! Just kidding. I once had counter strike but I deleted it because it wasn't much fun. Though I can get it back at any time, I don't feel like downloading steam again.

Well, the steam download client has actually improved greatly from before. It's not just a giant download (the gigabyte long wait from Fileplanet *uggh*) as it was before - note I haven't downloaded it recently, but rather a few months ago, so things may have changed. I believe it just auto-downloads via a steam client you get that's about 200 KBs big, or something along those lines.

Anyway, bottom line is it doesn't take as long, and it's not as frustrating (no lineups).

We'd love to have you out if you want to play :). Posting account names would also be quite useful if people want to do that :P.
Fine, I guess I will come. But you might want to remember that I haven't played this game for so long, and I only played for around a week, and then I stopped. So that means I probably will suck.

Oh yeah, save me a spot. I will download steam for sure so I will be there for sure.

Just a quick question, would it run on a Pentium 2 233MMX with 256 megs of Ram? I guess it counts as about a pentium 3 since I slightly upgraded it...

Very likely, yes. The half-life engine is really quite old, so CS works on most older computers, which is one of the reasons why it became so popular :p.

Finding a cd key on a p2p is hard. Take it from me, I tried once.

But then I bought it, and I'm soooo in! Fear my CS newbiness!

Is there a Mac version? Will it run on my G4 Powerbook? (Something like 667 Mhz, really sucky video card, enough RAM I'm sure)

I really don't have any FPS right now, so anything would be good.

One more thing... What's the difference between Half-Life and Counter Strike? I thought they were two separate games, but people seem to use the names interchangeably.

Half-life is the engine used to run CounterStrike. CounterStrike is in fact just a mod to the game Half-Life, but it became incredibly popular - probably moreso than half-life the game itself.

There are a number of other mods for Half-Life that are worth trying out as well, such as Day of Defeat, Ricochet, Natural Selection, etc. etc. So really, in buying Half-Life, you're actually buying like 20 decent games (assuming you enjoy FPS). The best thing is that once you're good at one game, you're alright in most of the other mods - since they all run on the same Half-Life engine :).

As for it running on a Mac, not sure, 1 sec.

A Mac version of Counter-Strike hinges on Valve Software porting Half-Life to the Mac. Their planned Mac port fell through. Thus, there will not be a Mac CS version (atleast not in the near future). In other words, the possitility of a Mac port isn't up to us.

Don't worry, you'll get to play both teams. Perhaps we can even have a "Captain" map, where we select two players and they pick other players for their team.

Actually none of those cd keys worked. Well actually I tried 3/4s of them and then gave up, but then I found one using a p2p program.

I am not sure, when the signature will be done. I haven't started yet to tell the truth, but around one week is enough for me to make your signature.

Radlin - 17 kills 16 deaths
Nahotnoj - 1 kill 17 deaths
WhiteKnight - 0 kills 17 deaths

I may be exagerating just a bit ^_~, but that was the general gist of it :p. Oh well, better train up some more for Saturday! Guargh :).

Well, I have never played it, but i have seen parodies of it on newgrounds.com, and i would love to give it a try. I don't have it though, how much does it cost, and would i need to buy like an expansion pack or any crap like that? Last thing, what processor does it need? I have a pentium 2, and my computer can run d2 barely ok as long as there's less than 4 people in the game.

It's only 15.99. You should probably be alright assuming you have an alright videocard. As long as we don't do any massive maps and we don't do any 30 player games, you'll probably be able to play without any serious lagging.

I just got an idea... we could have little matchups every so often, such as knife only wars for X minutes, or have to people do a draw, with one person jusging, make it a draw contest. whoever wins gets... something.

Well, that was my first day playing, and it's not that much like UT, so I was at a loss. I've gotten much better, I'm actually getting above 10 kills and below 10 deaths (Ahem... sometimes) in an average game! (Consisting of about 15 minutes). I'm even at rank 330! ^_^

I need do play some more with newbs of my skill. ^_^ I also want to knife with you again, Nahotnoj.

EDIT: What do people have against AWPs? Which weapons ARE AWPs, anyways?

AWP is also the Magnum Sniper Rifle, but usually called AWP or Awop.

The reason that people dislike this gun is because it will kill you in one shot, unless you have armour and it hits you in the foot (based on experience).

It has been nerfed heaps in 1.6, making it far slower to zoom in.

It is not automatic, so once you hear one of these go off, try not to stay around to feel the results of it (unless you feel that you can take them down :P), or try to get within very close range of the awp-er, so that their aiming becomes harder and they will have to resort to pistols.

My basic strategy is to wait a little bit, and wait until a teammate dies so I don't have to pay for expensive AWP's and others. This leaves me with a stock, so i can pick up a M249 every once in a while :D. I've learned to do pretty well, i'm generally better off CT because of the Five-Seven and the m4.

I was until i got this mofo lag... i havbe no idea about DS WK and radlin, DS and rad where in the irc channel, then DS goes "Join up all who have CS" and then they both quit along with WL and someone else... i can remember who... i looked at the server and they werent there, but i joined anyway, WK was there but then he left... im so confused.

Okay, this was quite a sucessful night, if I might say so myself. Everyone had fun right until the end (which was when I went insane and killed 4 hostages, which booted me, which shut down the whole server). Because of this being such a sucess, we decided to do it again.

So, on the Saturday after this, we will be holding another one with UT 2004 demo. Because I know some thing about UT, I'll most likely be hosting it, although I'm sure ZDS might or Radlin might. It will start at 7pm EST (might be before that too, depends.) You can download UT 2004 Demo at http://www.atari.com/unrealtournament/ and going to the bottom right. Have fun! ^_^

that was the best CS expierience ive had. ever. especially that round where i owned with the shotgun. for the first few rounds of that game, i got all of the kills. i liked the knife fights. knife fights rule.

Today (tonight for the rest of ya) was very fun, although I had to leave early :(

It's also very good that we got the server up and running, which was looking ominous for a time :/

So yeah, next time we do it, I'll try not to make other arrangements.

uhm, that link lead me to a half life game, which brings up two questions: one, what title of CS do you guys play? I mean, what is the full title. There are, i asume, several versions, or games with the name CS. Which ONE will we be playing together?

Secondly, what are de_rats? And what other things should one know about CS before going into it, so ya know, i dont do anything incredibly newbish?
