View Full Version : Picture needed, PLEASE!
Alright, I need help now... Here's the problem: I'm editor of our yearbook staff. Currently, we are going on schedule, except for one problem... One of our teachers was supposed to design our cover art, but has suddenly decided not to do it... We need help now! We have noone capable of designing it by hand or such, and since none of us have computer artistic skills, we are looking to outside sourses. I said that I knew of some good artists on random forums and such, and hope to find some. Here's what I need:
Pirate ship. The basic premice is 'Pirate' Because that is our mascot. It will be Black/Red/Silver, hopefully. The colors really don't matter, just the art right now. This is what we need... *Does horrible outline drawing thingy*

This is what the cover is, spread out. The left side will be the back, and right side be the front. What I need is a ship, the bow (Front) of the ship on the right side, and the backside of the ship on the left. This way, the ship will seem as if coming at you on the front, and going away from you on the back. Be reminded, we will ONLY have three colors max, maybe only two, so don't do giant drawings. Remember the KISS theory. Keep It Simple Stupid. Preferably, make it look like a stencil drawing, almost. That would probably look the best. Thank you to all who can help, the yearbook would greatly appreciate it!

--edit-- That drawing thingy didn't quite work, dammit...

I wish I could help, but I know I'm not capable of drawing ships.
However, if there was an existing picture of one, I could cut it down to one colour and then turn the sea and sky into the two remaining colours. By colours, you mean a colour range, not one specific colour, right?
So red = every kind of red from dark red to light red?

sorry, can't help you, I suck at art, so, gl on finding someone forum people so mean, they would never help you.
damn...I would love to do it, but i dont have a scanner....whats the deadline? If its not to close i could do something, break into....er...i mean...get access to a scanner, and post it here, and if its not the right size you can resize it or copy it exactly....right?
Whaaa.. I got responce faster than expected... Here's the deal: I need a pirate ship this simple... I can't draw it for shit, but make it BASIC... We are a poor ass yearbook, and can't afford those special effects. We are only allowed 3 colors. Red, black, and silver. What you will give us here, I will print out, take to school, and give to one of our art students, and they will enlarge it to fit. That is all I need.
Here's a little more specs: The yearbook is measured ABOUT 11" high, by 7-8" wide... The three colors are Red, Black and Silver. The or red will be our background, and silver will be lettering. Basically, the ship will be done in ONE color. The trick to doing that, is making it a 'stencilized ship' if you know what I mean. What we want it to look like would be a ship that is FACING you as you look at the front of the book, and look like it's sailing away from you on the back.
It's hard to really explain, so if I can find a link to something similar to what I mean, I will post. Basically, it HAS to be a stensil of a ship. That's the best we can do with our limited cash flow and resourses. This is due in a couple weeks, so ASAP would be our best bet on deadline. I will check back periodically for this...
Thanks all to help! I also ask that if you know anyone who can do this, please send this message to them. I am truely desperate for some outside help. Any and all credit will be given to the creator of the cover by me, in some way, in our yearbook. If possible, even, once we get the yearbooks, I might even send a copy to the person that does this for us! That way, you can say 'Yea, I did this for that school. That's how good I am." and the like. Please help everyone!

Im sorry geno...I tried, i really did....but I CANNA DRAW THE DAMN PIRATE SHIP IT LOOKS TO *&$W^* CHEAP WHEN I DO IT!!!
cant i just make a pirate flag or something? Or the bones and scull symbol on teh cover?
Sorry, we don't need a Jolly Roger... At least not yet... If we can't get the pirate ship, we need SOMETHING... The deadline is now set as March 8th! Shit! About two weeks. If someone would, please, tell all the graphic artists you know... Hell, someone copy this and paste it around if you have to... I need this badly, and would gladly give credit to whomever can do this. Thanks for trying, though, but we need a ship... x.x

Whew many thanks! Much needed! Whenever you can. If you can get it within a few days, that is fine as well. Just as long as it's a stencil looking kind of thing... It can't be detailed, for 3 colors isn't a lot... x.x
~Larry "Geno" Meyers
P.S. If you can't do it, or you think you can design something as well, or you want to tell friends, please do. I want as much work as I can get... It all helps!
Couldnt draw a ship so i drew a very simple skull and crossbones...You can either colour it in 3 diff. colours or just make it plain black...the only problem now is getting to a scanner....
Gah... Can you do it in photoshop the same as the paper, or you PS illiterate like me...? Heh... Whenever you can, please get it to us! We need it badly x.x
~Larry "Geno" Meyers
P.S. If someone would, please tell Sfinx about this, because I don't see him to often, and am not sure if he is even on these forums as we speak... If someone could, I know he would be able to whip something up VERY nicely in a few seconds, and if you can't get a scanner, see if you can get him this message... If needed, copy paste the whole thing. Thanks... Also, any other graphic artists deemed worthy, PM or mail them this too. The yearbook needs it soon... x.x
11 days encounting...
see, theres a scanner near here..but they charge 15 bucks per scan... (rupees, that is)
now 15 bucks sint much...so i could probably get it done by this evening (its morning here)
Here are the details:
Cover: Just a scull and crossbones.
I havnt made the back cover yet, but cant you have it plain or just like the cover?
If worse comes to worse, yea, we can always leave the cover backing blank... We would love to see a full cover, though, for once, but if needed, we might as well leave it alone o.O
~Larry "Geno" Meyers
Your prayers have been answered! (no, i didnt get a scanner, but i got SOMETHING)
what you can do is, print these images, add nice border and what you have to write and you have your cover!
These are what i found:
http://www.rudedogleather.com/patches/general/hc532.jpg
bah...12 pages and this was the noly cool scull i found...
Hmmm... That is good and all, but not exactly what our mascot looks like... Let me find our school's webpage really fast, and I can show you what the pirate kind of looks like o.O...
I just checked it, and there is nothing of our mascot on there! The hell was our Computers III teacher thinking... Hmmm... Anyways, back to the subject...
Yea, that was good, but I don't believe our Yearbook teacher would go for that... x.x

P.S. This thread isn't done yet... Get everyone you can, and please please please get pictures here... x.x

cmon! It doesnt HAVE toi look like yer mascot...its a pirate skull...cant your Magazine thingie be different?
...This might be our last yearbook. That's the problem. Illiopolis (Where I'm from) and Niantic-Harristown (Other school) are thinking about consolidating next year. If this current vote passes, this is going to be our last yearbook. That's why we have to have it all perfect. That's the whole dilema... x.x

Very very nice... I shall print those off, and take them to school tomorrow. Wait shit... I don't have school tomorrow... Pulaski day... Meh... Tuesday then. I shall take them then, and see what the teacher thinks ^.^ Thanks BST! Lifesaver point! (Checks the tally, and noticed it's about 46 or 47... I'm too tired to count o.O)

Hmmm... I'm going to find the time to try out my CorelDRAW skills so I can get cleaner shapes. It has a few 'diddots' (I just invented the word just then) here and there which don't quite look professional.
It's quite good considering I only used my mouse. (I did practice by hand a few times)

So... what did you mean by 'stencil' geno?
And would it be a dumb idea for me to make cannons stick out of those windows on the bottom of the ship? And it needs a flag thingy too, doesn't it? Do pirate ships even have cannons inside the hull, aren't they meant to be on top of the ship?
ZeroDarkStar
03-02-2004, 8:10 PM
They're inside the hull. Pirates used mostly single-sail ships, which were NOT big enough to hold cannons, or stolen military ships, in which case the cannons would be in the hull.
There's not real sense on putting them on the deck, if you think about it.
Stencil... Let me find a good rendition of one... Hmmm...
http://www.stencilkingdom.com/images/designs/childm03_large.gif
That's an EXAMPLE, but it won't work, at least I don't think it will... Notice how none of the lines are actually TOUCHING each other... Kind of like that... That's stencilized... o.O
~Larry "Geno" Meyers
P.S. Countdown: 5 days to go after tonight
--Edit-- Now that I look at it, a few lines kind of do touch each other... But anyways, try and make it not so. You know what I mean? Don't make me take pictures... x.x --End edit--
Bounce (Sorry!)
Last day of actual school today, then Monday is the day of truth. We have found a few things, but wish to have as much as we can. If anyone can, please post whatever you can, or link to whatever you find. Thanks!

Hmmm... I redrew the first one with CorelDRAW so the shape is smoother. Although, it doesn't look that much different when you look at it.

I'm going to try to draw a view from the back. I hope I can get it in before everything explodes for you Geno.
Thanks everyone, for all of the help... These look great! I will tell you how it goes once we choose one and all... Heck, around October, we get our yearbooks (Yes, late, but still better than none ;)) and I will try and get a picture of the cover, and show you how it comes out. Currently, we have taken BST's original idea, and mixed it with a few other pieces of art we found, and are thinking that's it, but we are still unsure. The yearbook techie comes Monday, so that's when we have to pick our final answer (Not for one million dollars... o.O). I will keep you posted! :)

WOW man that is SMALL. I have 950 people in my middle school and 1275 in my High School. Oh yeah about the drawing. I got a B in art so I wouldn't be who you want to help you.
Thanks for the help everyone! I shall take these last ideas to school tomorrow. I would like to thank each and every one of you for the support. When I get the yearbook, I will get a picture of the cover (If I remember... :p). Thanks again!
