What would you think about Blizzard keeping the tech trees of the three races from SC/BW and making three or so entirely new races?

Pros:
New races with new story lines and whatever else they desire.

The "old" races are still there so we can keep playing with what we love and know.

A few new units and/or changes could give a fresh breath to the BW races while keeping the same feel.

Blizzard could focus on the new races without dealing with old limitations. They can do whatever they want. They don't have to make an entirely new race for the creep unless they decide to.

This would increase the number of races quite a bit without dogging down Blizzards design team.

Cons:
As with any game with a large number of tech trees, it would be a nightmare to balance.

Campains with the old races would get boring because we've already used the units for ten years.

battle.net winners would be extremely tilted until stragies came out for the new races.

Might create a higher learning curve.

Any thoughts?

People who love the game will have to love the current races, if not at least one. And many others are fans of Starcraft because of the long, complex stories behind the one-player campaigns. You may get the gist of the story by playing the game, but there are books to read to learn about the in depth history of the protoss, and how a colony of exiled misfits turned into the terran race. To just sort of push the terrans, protoss, and even the zerg aside would leave SC-ers very dissatisfied with the sequel we've waited so long for.

But by all means, there should be new races. We sort of expect them, and many of us look forward to having these new races to play with, but very few people are bored with the current races. The three first races will always be the most important, I think, for the story and for the player's strategies. If you're that eager for new races, you may as well play another game.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the sequel of StarCraft. And if their patience and faith will be justified, I think that there will be more than just a couple new units for each of the three current races. There will be whole new branches on their tech trees, and the current units may even gain a few new abilities.

It'd be neat to see a few new races, but I'd be severly disapointed if the only new addition to the terran armies was some dinky unit, like an infantry gun-man with a jet-pack (Actually, that might be kind of cool, but I digress). Blizzard's priorities should be in the current races, the new races should come second.

i would say at least a few minor changes to the existing ones and possibly 2 new races (UED and Hybrids)

Obviously, Starcraft wouldn't be Starcraft without the Terrans, Zerg, or Protoss. That and their stories aren't really finished. Most Starcraft fans would want to know what happens next.

Also, new races and such depend on what Blizzard wants to do with the story. It depends on how far after the events in BW are going to take place. Within a few years? Then we still have pretty much the same technology and the characters (the Terran ones, anyway) are still around. But, if the story takes place within the next few generations, then all three races will have evolved. The Zerg would make use of the Terrans they assimilated and the Terrans would have developed their psionic capabilities, etc.

True, true. And maybe the protoss' computers will dominate them,
