I was wondering how many people realized this..I think MTank would be able to see the connection.
The Word "Naga" used for the naga race in Hindi actually mean huge serpent .
The hindi word is pronounced as "Naag".
Also the name "Vashj" resembles closely the name of a God in Hindy Mythology called "Vishnu" would would reside on a bed of an 8 headed serpant in the middle of a vast ocean.
What with the pandaeran rewmaster to represent the far east and the trolls to represent the carribean like countries ..(and i'm sure there are many more representatives)..blizz has achieved an intresting blend of cultures.

Naga are common mythological creatures, just like dragons or elves. Blizzard didn't copy them from any D&D book.

I'll also point out that another Blizzard game, StarCraft, has "Vishnu" mentioned... the Zealots say it all the time.

We're not saying anything about copying ..more so as an inspiration...and let me also say that elves as we know them in warcraft and other fantasnsy games...ie the tall handsome refined, full of wisdom and very good warriors mosltly always oringinate from Tolkein's elves...And I say this from a a source of a friend of mine who is doing a PhD on lord of the rings and how it took from and contributed to english folklore.
Apparently even in old folktales..there were accounts of fabled race of beings coming from across the sea to teach the barbarions.
