The First Official Warboards Image Competition!

At long last, here it is, after being little more than a hub-bub for a few weeks.

The First Official Warboards Image Competition! *cue theme music*

This will be a fairly simple contest. One round, anyone may enter (except judges, obviously).
The theme of this contest is "Nature", do whatever you want with that, the theme is intentionally broad to allow for total freedom of artistry for this first contest, but of course keep everything PG, so no nudity (except non-human animals, that can't be avoided).

Rules and Guidelines:
Entries are to be in the form of a computer wallpaper. Any size between 800x600 and 1280x1024 is allowed, as long as the screensize ratio is upheld. That is, if set as a wallpaper, it must be able to take up the full screen. No filesize restriction, but you must be able to post it somehow. ;)
Wallpapers must consist of at least two stock photos or personal photos. Please provide a link to the stocks you used or provide some evidence of using multiple photos.
No animation, obviously, and no nudity as stated above.
One entry per person.
Absolute deadline is August 18th. No entries will be accepted after that day.
Entries will be rated on a point scale, and the average of the score from all four judges will be used to determine placings.

Being one of the judges, I think it's best not to post your images on the thread. It adds to the competition.

Think about it - for all of you who have posted your images - everyone else competing already knows what they are going against.

OboeGuru has stated nothing advising against this, but that is just my personal opnion.

Perfectly acceptable. And encouraged, if you feel so inclined. No holding back unless you're toeing the line of breaking the rules (such as they are).

Meh, most of you guys are content with just putting two images together. Mine looked really bad like that, so look at all the crap I did:

-Desaturated both pictures.
-Hue/Saturated at 25/50/0.
-Added Noise (uniform, monochromatic).
-Added faded letter text (the "Dear Mother," stuff).
-Removed the "Herr Fisher" from the boat, using that wonderful Clone Tool.
-Added a reflection on the water of the boat.
-Added a burn around the edge using a large fuzzy brush with a texture on it.
-Added a title.

I hated the two picture rule. I made a far far far better one with one picture, but then I went and reread the rules and I had to throw in another one there. -_-

It's not about what takes more skill, it's about what looks good, and works the best as a wallpaper.

Some wallpapers look good as a stand-alone image, but look awkward on the desktop.

All except one of my animal photographs came from the CorelPrint&PhotoHouse collection. The background texture and texture for the cracked planet came from the Corel Photo-Paint texture generator. The diagrams that are meant to carry the message of the work were drawn with the mouse. I really need a graphics tablet. Anyways my suggestion is, either get rid of it somehow, or render some white clouds and make a light fog across the entire picture (which might not look bad). But what I would really like to see is some water in the picture. Maybe a stream, or a waterfall. Water would improve it tremendously IMHO.

Anyways my suggestion is, either get rid of it somehow, or render some white clouds and make a light fog across the entire picture (which might not look bad). But what I would really like to see is some water in the picture. Maybe a stream, or a waterfall. If you look at the stalk ull clearly see that its a picture of an python / boa constrictor snake type thing ( i put anaconda cuz i like the name) And its in a nature habitat. Therefore its nature.

And it's nature because chest hair is a natural part of puberty for most men, and some women (Note: Chest hair was done using stock image, though I used a different blending mode to make it look cartoonish :).). I'll make a new thread when I get the time... But I dont think I want to judge, I want to try making something.

bluemicrobyte, your score totalled: 4.125/10.

I am being completely honest with you, so please take this crticism in a way without attempting to rip my head off. My judging, out of all all of the other judges, brought the general scores of everyone down.

I used the following criteria, copied exactly from what I sent the other judges. Unfortunately, they had already judged using a different grading scale solely based on two things:

1.) Creativity
2.) Overall suitability as a wall paper.
3.) Artistic Ability (Whether they just got two images and changed the opacity to 50/50 would be considered low. Paying attention to details and doing something good is higher up on the scale.
4.) Overall apperance. (Just because what they did is amazing doesn't mean the image will necessarily look nice. Use this it judge how you like the wallpaper)

I personally wanted to have more thigns to grade on, but do to my lack of time, I limited it to these four.

bluemicrobyte, with each on a scale of 10, the artistic ability and creativity killed your overall score. The creativy was rated low, because it was two images, one with the flower pasted in the top right, which was sort of out of place. Second of all, the artistic ability was simply cropping and pasting a new layer with the flower.

Your score for the overall appearnce took a hit as well from me, because the horizon was out of place. You should have atleast taken a straight picture.

Overall though, you should take advantage of your surroundings for the second competition, and hopefully you'll do better.

I rated the highest creativity to no other than ZDS, who was extremely creative by combining the two images, and using the letter thing. The reason he lost is because of me... I didn't think the suitability as a wallpaper was higher than WK's.

Overall, I was really, really impressed with everyone's artistical talent.

Well, black.ice, I'm not trying to argue against your judgement, but I think bmb should also get extra points for "artistic ability" not just for cut-and-paste (which is pretty simple) but for the actual photography. He did take the pictures himself.

Btw does someone want to link to the top three entries? And WK how did you do that engraving thing, is that just the engrave filter/tool that I know PS has? It looks really cool.

Umm, I'm having some trouble understanding that. Oh, I think I get it. Yeah, you can bevel and emboss, just go to the layers menu thing and choose it. I used PS CS, though.
