View Full Version : Interest Check -- Team Fortress 2 RP

That's right, kiddies, you read it correctly.
A Team Fortress 2 RP!
I had some unresolved kinks in my previous RP, so I decided to scrap it and go with a more conventional idea. Here's some basics:
-There will be eighteen total player slots, at nine per team, and any unfilled slots may be filled as an NPC.
-No naming, outside of class. The Demoman may not be called Bill, and The Engineer may not be called George, for example.
-Battles must be taken slowly. Sure, instant-kills are possible with the actual game, but if you're sniping, you're going to miss some of the time, and not every shot will be a headshot.
-The fourth wall must remain intact. No citing player names, ping times, shouting "1337!", or any of that. We're RP'ing the Teams, not ourselves.
-Try to post accents with dialogue. It'll help with immersion some.
Generalized rules from TF2:
-We're playing the classic 2fort map.
-First to three caps wins, ends round, or possibly the RP.
-As when you always join a server, the story begins in medias res. Bases are set, some people are in position, others are moving to and setting up.
There's still a major kink though -- respawning. Death is common in TF2, no doubt about it. We'll have to work on that. Any suggestions here are appreciated.
So, thanks for a read, hope to see enough interest to see this get started!
Don't forget to vote on it, too!

Could be a short and sweet pvp thing. I voted no though, because I'm more for depth and the fleshing out of new stories (and if based in an already existing universe, the fleshing out of a certain aspect of said universe), but I might participate in this out of boredom if it helps. :)

Have only played TF2 twice or three times at a friends house, but I am willing to give it a shot.

Sounds oddly like my Halo: Single Bomb Assault idea, thanks for stealing it and changing it to TF2. So kindly gtfo and eat shit and die.

A)I wasn't there when you mentioned it.
B) I believe I had this idea first.
C) Feel free to do an interest check for yours. Nothing's stopping you.
D) Blow it out your ass. :-P

As far as death and respawning goes, I think it'd be good if when you die, you're done for the round. So it'll gradually dwindle down to whomever is left standing. Then, the round will end, a new one will start, and the players will all be restored.
So I voted Change some things, only because I'd like to get this sorted out before I jump into it. But my interest is piqued!

I like that idea, Jax, but I'd like to have as many people participating at one time rather than have people dropping out. Makes for a short RP for people, if one of us ever decides to kill each other. :-P
We could have it so they black out for a few posts and wake back up on the floor of the locker room.
We could also make the medic carry them back to base, but that seems a little mundane. :-/

Respawn idea: Everytime someone dies, they return as their same selves, but at the same time a different person with a different personality (same job, though), effectively in medias res (ie. 'They got billy! I'll avenge you! They got Tommy Joe-joe! I'll avenge yeh! *bam*'). Though names might be revealed to identify between re-spawns with a simple comical affect, rather then it actually being a character name (other PCs will logically refer to each other by their job, ie. 'engineer, plant that turret!' ''Kay, boss.').

It sounds like a good idea, but considering that none of the classes in TF2 have names, I'd like to keep it that way. I do like the idea of PC's having MPD and changing personalities on death though. :-)

Another thing, what if you're unfamiliar with the map and gameplay? Your opening post should outline the basics, in the most lament's terms, and even provide a map if possible, for those of us who want to join but don't know the background.
I supposed we could offer up some of our guest passes to those who are GOING to be in the rp.

Here's something I dug up on YouTube. I'd like to take it a little slower than this, game-play wise, but it shows how most classes are played, mainly spy, medic, pyro, soldier, and heavy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QhM9M5kSPE
Part one outlines that main bases, for the most part, with water / spiral combat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6OgCHESmmE&feature=related
Part two continues, with more of the same. It also outlines the interior of the base to a degree. One thing it doesn't show is the rush back out, but we can improvise. :-P
http://www.ubercharged.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/ctf_2fort_deaths.jpg
This is the 2fort death map (also called heat map), outlining where players have died, and is updated weekly. It's a top-down view, so anything under anything else is obscured, but it may be helpful when staging battles.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCA_NOp6I0E&feature=related
This is a more in-depth look into how each class plays. It's basic, but outlines good, solid strategies for each class. The scout offers a quick 2fort tour at the end of the video.
If you need anything else, and can't find it on Google, let me know and I'll try and help out. :-D

Double post as this is, I'd like to go ahead and set a tentative start date of Monday, September 1st for the Team Fortress 2 RP.
If you'd like to reserve a team choice and class, if you haven't already, PM me or post here what you'd like to be, and which team you'd like to be on.
If you need any details, re-read this thread to see if your question's been answered, or feel free to PM me about it. I'm really anticipating this! :-D

I've narrowed it down and I would like to be the spy :)

Any particular team, Dusty? This is a PvP RP, so if you have no preference, I'll just assign you one.
-DocZetta
Hmm. If it really does matter on 2fort I'll take red :P

Hah. Read the Op for the actual RP. Dialogue must be accented, but thoughts don't have to be. :-P
