:concern: The IR seems to have all but evaporated. What happened; not to long ago there were plenty of active threads, now there are three. Is this just a cycle, or should there be cause for concern? I really enjoy reading some of the discusions that used to spawn in the IR.
There should be no cause for concern, there haven't been any hugely controversial topics in the news lately, so discussion has dimmed down for now.

I am banned from the IR O.o so I wouldn't know. I had a really good topic going that didn't have flames or arguments in it. It was just a discussion. I would hope that you guys can make more of those topics in the IR ^^

You would think with the Olympics, the 08 elections, and the Russian-Georgia war currently taking place, there would be more than enough news to creat healthy threads about.

China haxing.
They have members who might not meet the required age.

And there are already threads in the members lounge! that are about the russian-georgian war and also the olympics. Maybe if those threads were moved to the IR, but no!

Not really much to say about the Russian-Georgia war. (http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/08/16/georgia.russia.war/index.html)
Disscussions realated to the Olypics aren't usually fit for the IR.

Good grief. I keep hearing about how some of their gymnasts aren't old enough for floor exercise, and one of the most common accusations seems to be "The only documents that say they're old enough are Chinese government documents, so the government could have easily changed their ages!" The documents providing a persons age are provided by their government? I would have never guessed that!
Not like my birth certificate, drivers license, or passport are issued by various agencies in the US government. Maybe I'm not really as old as my documents say I am, too! We have to arrest all those store clerks who let me buy alcohol!

That's not why they're accused of being underage, this is why:
But online records listing Chinese gymnasts and their ages that were posted on official Web sites in China, along with ages given in the official Chinese news media, seem to contradict the passport information, indicating that He, Linlin, and Jiang may be as young as 14. For instance, The Times found two online records of official registration lists of Chinese gymnasts that list He's birthday as Jan. 1, 1994, which would make her 14. A 2007 national registry of Chinese gymnasts, currently taken offline but viewable through Google cache[121], shows He's birthday as "1994.1.1." State-run China Central Television (CCTV) website posted a profile indicating that Yang Yilin was 14, which the government later argued was incorrect.[122][123] Yang Yun, who won two bronze medals in the 2000 Summer Olympics, later admitted on state-run China TV that she was 14 when she had competed.[124] Despite these findings, The IOC has decided not to launch any investigations and have accepted the passports as legitimate.[125][126]
In the past China has entered underage gymnasts, and various sources say the current ones are 14, and one of the sites that says it has been taken down. :/

It isn't like I'm taking a side on this issue, I'm just suggesting a topic about the Olympics that you guys could debate over.

No, that's exactly why they're accused of being underage. They claim that the government put the wrong birth dates on their passports intentionally. But how do you prove or disprove that? Just saying they could means nothing, because, big shocker here, all documents proving your age probably come from your government too!

The quality of posting has declined somewhat in the IR, and there areny myriad topics to post about. The election has dried up somewhat as the mania died down.
+ WB phails.

Protogod is a (Global ?) Moderator, he wouldn't have the powers to shut WB down. And please fluff out your posts and think about your questions before doing something that could possibly cause drama.
That being said, there is no serious business to be discussed and WarBoards is on a recline so it should be applauded that even a few threads are active in the IR. Expect more threads in the fall.

I always think the topics in the IR are interesting and decide to check it your views on the issue, but whenever I get around to reading the posts I always get this huge 'Whoa, TL;DR' feeling.

I got to agree with IrishDutchman here, and sometimes there are topics that are about issues inside the USA, which makes it less interesting for non-USA citizens.

I've never really thought of that...
I couldn't imagine trying to argue about a domestic issue in a foreign country... lol

SIGH. There were documents produced by state newspapers months before the Olympics stating that these girls were of X age (where X is not a legal age), produced documents with birthdates. As the Olympics was getting underway, documents disappeared, passports were produced saying they were of Y age (where Y is of legal age), and they were grossly in conflict with the record of previous dates.
Please, please inform yourself before making a giant ass out of yourself in front of everyone.
Edit: Link (http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/gymnastics/news?slug=ap-gym-underagechinese&prov=ap&type=lgns), read up.
Most likely because people are discussing this elsewhere, either in ML, or just other areas in general.
IR isn't really a place for extreme activity, it's more a place for thoughtful discussion. As such a topic may not seem active, even though it's participants still post in it.
