Design challenge.

Comrades at WarBoards,

Lo and behold! A new design challenge appears on the horizon. Details will be confirmed later, but here's the gist of it:

Several staff members [no names], after looking at http://forum.yaxay.com/staff.php, have concluded that they like the idea of a graphical staff listing. They feel that it would be a very good idea to implement on WarBoards. Therefore, they have given a quest to all takers: design us a listing like that. :)

Are there any of you brave enough to take this challenge? Any of you with enough artistic prowess to satisfy our staff? Post here if you are interested. :)

Correct, no reason to get all agitated BST.. at no point would I even consider making real photos a mandatory or public thing if someone didn't wish.

It's just easier to draw pictures of people sometimes when you have an idea what they might look like, etc. But like I said it doesn't necessarily need to be so.

Perhaps instead of caricatures of the staff members, perhaps some object or cartoon character or something of the like to represent them. That way, it'll be amusing and totally not a rip-off. ;)

Well, that's a massive over-simplification/interpretation. It would just be more indicative of the staff member's personality, etc. to have some sort of representation. That's my reasoning behind the whole cartoon charater/object thing. It just makes everything a little bit simpler. But by all means, create an original picture or something based on the item chosen by the staff member. Quality would be inconsistent if we just took pre-made stuff.

well, I think that you should have a cartoon based on a picture...Or..what we could have is, The people who are more Wc-based dressed as Wc characters, and Sc-type people as SC characters..and then maybe we can put them in a battle scene or just on oppostie sides of a page with a background that looks like a dungeon or the control room of a spaceship...

PS: Who exactly is doing this is this is to be done? I think maybe you should select a coupla people and decide who's better....Im not kidding, i CAN draw well.

pps: If I am one who is chosen, I wont go public with your photo, rhino..though I dont know why you want to hide urself..its not like youre a demon with horns and wings or something....

Instead of posting the entire real picture, you could provide some of it (or all of it) and edit it (run some filters to distort it or whatnot =P)

I have absolutly NO drawing skills, but I'll check back on this thread to see if there's anything I could provide ;)

for anyone else, i suggest you play with the ideas presented above and see what you can do. if anything is particularly to our liking, we very likely would use it and in the least give you credit for the image and.. possibly something else as well.

If anyone knows what vectore coloring is, I suggset doing that. It would probably take longer, but it would definately add a unique feel.

What I do is take my picture and lightly draw it in pencil. Afterwards I go over it in a dark ink. Then I use PS skillz to darken and enlarge the borders slightly and remove and other color I don't want. Finally I fill.

Here's an insanely rough draft of 2 staff members, the easiest ones to draw. Demon Child is on the right, and Mr. Fengiun is on the left.

Demon Child has no face, because everything I tried ended up ruining the effect of the picture. I'm waiting for DC's imput on this.

That circle around Fengiun's head is a halo. It seemed to fit him. And yes, I do know he bears much likeness to the Linux Pengiun. ^_^

As for the others...I think AJ's legs are a bit too long. Shorting them might make him look akward though...Shorten them just a hair, I'd say.

I'm serious, I only have a bit of sketching talent. In order to draw my stuff, I look up other images of what I'm going for and I put all those ideas together as one and I make one complete sketch. I can't really draw stuff from my head as well as I'd like to. I need other images to see how they've done it and I go from there. =)

But thanks though, it makes me happy that my work is appreciated =D Oh btw everyone, I've pretty much made a rough draft of PlowKing--It looks cool, lolz. Well, you peeps can decide when I scan it in and finish it =P

anyhow...Ive finished up with most of the stuff....Ive drawn in a cartoony style, with simplicity, so its easy to colour and understand... for example, I couldda made templartenshi look a whole lot more cooler, but i didnt. cause it would have been a pain to colour.

However, i ran outof room on my papaer, thus could not draw nuts, mr. Plow, plowking and Gibb.
I am sorry....but maybe, if im chosen we can use PCs drawings of those guys.

Now its just a matter of reaching a scanner....stay tuned.
