View Full Version : WarBoards Publicity Campaign

I got the idea from here: http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=36896
Okay, so taking the fact that there are no more than 50 active users on WarBoards each day, why don't we do a bit of a publicity campaign?
How are we going to do it?
1.) A team of people, including me, will make I <3 WarBoards or similar signature pictures and banners that we are going to use on our accounts on other fora, and use as ads on our blogs or sites, or use as signatures on emails. This way, they will attract visitors and bring traffic to the site.
2.) IRC lovers should talk about WarBoards on different IRC channels, while not directly advertising the site. For example, you should start a discussion by saying 'Hey, I've read a neat article here (link to WarBoards)' or 'Guys, take a look at this (link to WarBoards)' and encourage other IRC lurkers to visit WB's.
3.) Someone should program an automated web page or form where you get to send out mail invites to friends and families, asking them to check out WarBoards. The form/page should be customizable and should support all email providers, and should contain an attractive message body.
4.) YouTube videos. Someone should make WarBoards advertisement videos on YouTube by featuring the biggest projects held here. For example, someone should make a sneak-peek or preview of SC:Sons of War with the links telling people to join its discussion on WarBoards like 'Join the community. Speak your mind. Visit WarBoards.org', while at the same time providing links to the SC:SoW homepage itself.
What do you say? I think this will be great step to make WarBoards more active and fun. If this project succeeds, we can change WarBoards and see it the way we never used to.

This is... advertising on other sites. We don't allow it here, why would we go do it other places?

Read the methods I described above. Signatures on fora are allowed, e-mail marketing is on a personal thing and not limited by any rule whatsoever, talking on IRC about websites are not disallowed, YouTube video ads are not restricted, and advertising on your own site is practically unbound by any webhost rule I'm familiar with.
What else?
Trust me, there's nothing bad on this. And you aren't directly advertising, you're merely publicizing... just like my signature here. ^_^

I'm pretty sure I've seen people try your idea here by posting links to other forums in their sigs, etc, or come into the IRC room and be like HAY GUYS YOU LIKE SC RIGHT CHECK OUT GENERICSCCLANSITE.COM and in those cases the person was usually banned.
Go ahead and do this if you want, but don't expect it to work. I am not going to help and I urge others to side with me. Anyone I see advertising some forum or link or whatever like that I just assume is a loser anyways and don't take anything they say seriously after that. :-P
Please don't harass other people by advertising Warboards in that manner, thanks.
fyi: you can use the thread tools to "email this page" to people.
personally I always found it slimy when people try to passively advertise sites.

It's hilarious to read that and just below it in your sig see:
KHANDURAS.ORG
(not that it's the same, since it's an orgnetwork site and all, but still)
It's hilarious to read that and just below it in your sig...
uhmm, are you intentionally trying to be lame?
my sig has always linked to various sites -- for awhile it was sc2.com, then sc.org, then it was d3.com, and now becuase of Khanduras it links to khanduras -- however because I've not got around to creating any logos or "branding" yet for it a pic of "d3" isn't very informative that it links to a new fansite >.>

Mag summed it up better than I could ever do.
We're not in threat of dying if we don't get new members or anything. WB is fine as it is with new members joining once in a while.
besides, screw that, I need all of you to join Khanduras :p
rawr! (d3 rules)

Well yeah, anyway... to sum the thread:
Me: Popcorn, popcorn! Popcorns right here at the temple!
Mag: Fuck jew. Advertising at the temple is fucking sorbid.
Neo: Yeah yeah. Please don't harass other people by selling popcorns at the temple. We don't give a damn. Besides, you can just throw popcorns right at 'em with this button here, see?
Mag: It's fucking ironic that I see Khanduras on your tee, cap, jeans, and bumper sticker.
Neo: Are you trying to be lame? I've also done that for years. It started with Lucky Circle, now Hope, then Winston, and now Khanduras. Stop whining your bitchy ass.
SilverCrusader: [Says nothing useful.]
Neo: Yeah, stop selling popcorns. Just go and buy Khanduras tees, available in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Woohoo! Khanduras! Woohoo! Diablo! Cigar! Woohoo.! Only here at the temple! (Besides, Khanduras is also a temple, so... >.>)
So simply put,
just close this thread and go to Khanduras!!
Amen. ^_^

Just to re-iterate what Neo said above:
Neo: *cough* well you still can't get to Khanduras because of the bus stations are closed or buy my merchandise since the post office people are DISOBEDIENT BASTARDS WHO WILL SUFFER MY WRATH...
err, right. time to massage my thighs and get a beauty sleep. *where are those damned pickles?!*
Hey, no pun. ^_^

Periodically FrankZ makes a thread that nobody seems to agree with, and it's always hilarious. It'd be pretty cool if at the exact same time everyone went to different IRC channels and linked them to warboards. Bonus points if it's to this exact thread. IRC is fair game since people post up links in there all the time, but the sigs method is just advertising. I hope my post description is as good as Mag's or Neo's btw, no half-assing it. If I don't feel embarassed then you pussied out.
