Main Point: WoW is going to revolve alot around Guild play. I think alot of us will be thinking about playing in guilds. WoW will also be very Guild friendly. So, we have a decision to make.
Do we, as a group of Warboards act as individuals, some joining one guild, and others joining another. Or do we stick together?

If we stick together should we form our own guild or join a different one? I've already found a great one that has virtually no members and alot of potential. If we decide to go that way, i definatly will recommend that.

OR we could all just start our own guild. We'd probably want alot of people, so we might want to try and pull some guys over from BF. (Just because were seperate forums, doesn't mean we can't game together!!)

I know that the release of WoW is a long time away, and most of us won't be getting beta... still... its something to at least think about :)

Hey, we'll start a guild, and see what happens. If no one joins, then, that's okay, it's their decision. But right now, I don't have any other choice, so I'd definitely be in the WarBoards.org guild.

But being in a guild doesn't actually offer any advantages in the game, does it? It just makes you look cooler.

Hmm, as of now there are no *real* strategic advantages to having a guild, but knowing Blizz, that's likely to change.

What you do get:
*A spiffy Tabard with your guild symbol on it
*When player housing is released, there will be special guild housing
*Guild instances - Blizz mentioned something about crossing a certain instance into guild instances (marked by a yellow line, instead of green like normal party instances). These would be for a large group of people in a guild that want to go hunting.

How?

Well, when you want to create a guild, the guild leader needs to get a piece of paper (in-game) which they take with them to the various members they want in the guild. They then get those members to put their name on the piece of paper. When the piece of paper has 10 members on it, the guild is formed.

When the guild is formed you select a tabard and name and such.

It's done this way to avoid the difficulty of making a small guild, when you all can't meet at the same time (like in WC3).

So I s'pose if you wanted to join a WarBoards guild, you'd just have to reach the leader of the guild, whoever that may be, and sign the piece of paper. However, once the guild is formed, I do believe you can get people to join without using the paper.

Well... where do you get the piece of paper from? And is the person who gets the bit of paper automatically the leader? That might cause some fuss.

In Astonia, you have to get a clan jewel, which only appears once every 48 hours or so. And then you have to fight the crap out of everyone there to get to the jewel. I think that's a good idea for that game, but personally, I would not like to make the bits of paper so rare in World of WarCraft.

I'd like to know more about these guild instances. Sounds like Blizzard have got some interactive guild things planned. How do you know all this stuff Radlin?

Well, I co-lead a WoW guild called Strength and Honour, and I'm the webmaster of our alliance site. I also participate in about 8 World of Warcraft IRC chats, and am part of a few other WoW community forums. I also know the webmasters and owners of several WoW official fansites, and I know the leaders of most of the larger alliance WoW guilds. So I really just pick most of it up at those places, in addition to reading every article I've ever found about WoW ;).

As far as I know the guild papers are distributed at no charge, immediately after you ask for one (so you don't have to go to the trouble of finding one). The only thing in a guild so far that costs money is the guild tabard, which costs 10 gold. The guild housing will likely also cost money, but it won't be released until after a patch after retail.

I'm not 100% sure if they're using the paper method for beta. For now, until they update it, I think they're just making it the simple command of "/guildcreate [guild name]".

Don't worry about the leader stuff though. The person who forms the guild is initially set as the leader, but if you want to make someone else the leader of the guild, you need only type in a single command (/gleader).

There isn't a whole heck of a lot of information on guild instances. In fact, I've only heard them mentioned in about two or three articles. I would imagine they'd work much like party instances, but much more grandscale (so anyone that's in your guild - whether it be 4 people, or 40 can enter the instance). You also won't have to worry about forming a party before you enter the instance, since anyone can enter that's on your guild roster.

Edit: The beta website even says "More guild support will be added to the game and web site... ", so we'll be sure to see a lot more updates on guilds.

Yes, I just read their entire website. They said 'for now it's /guildcreate' so it'll be easy.

Have we had a poll on which class we were going to pick? And what about whether our guild is going to be an alliance or horde guild?

I really want to be a hunter. I don't know why. Although, all this talk about how 'Tanks' are important is beginning to sway me to pick that. Even though I'm not in the beta.

Go with your gut feeling . . . although, if your gut is telling you to be a Night Elf hunter, then don't listen to its rumblings ;). Just kidding, if you really want to be one . . . that's alright, but there's a massive majority of these NE hunters. . . and when I say massive, I mean massive!

There used to be a world of warcraft poll set up here:
http://magix.ath.cx/wow/

But apparently it's down now. It had thousands of results, and various different statistics (the statistics also appear to be down). Anyway, it showed the #1 choice for people, with a strikingly large majority were the NE hunters. The least popular race was determined to be the Gnomes :P.

LOL, that's so funny. I would so pick the same choice everyone else picks.
