can't afford glasses. :pFunny you should say that...I find heard of this (below) on Car Talk (the NPR show) and it was the answer to a puzzler. It also explains why squinting can help you see better.
This works for people who are near-sighted. Take off your glasses or contacts. Make a very very small hole with your thumb and first finger. Close one eye and use the other to look through the hole you made. Look through the hole at an object a few feet away that is somewhat blurry if you looka t it normally without your glasses and without using the hole. You will find that looking at it through the hole brings the object into better focus, you can see it better. I forget why this works, but hey, google it. :)

It's a woodwind, it sounds like other woodwinds (the body looks like a small clarinet), but at the same time, it doesn't have the same sound at all. Unlike the clarinet, the oboe is a double-reeded instrument like the basoon, and this gives it a very unique sound. I can't really describe it, and different people play it to make different sounds. Look up an oboe concerto or something and listen to it. Sorry I can't offer anything specific. I hope you know what a violin sounds like, considering you are learning it...
