Yeah, that was announced a while ago, it's real. I don't know if it'll actually be made and finished and stuff, but it was planned.

Heard of this from a chatmate on Yahoo, and we're totally excited about it. I think this will be a big hit-- swarms of gamers piling inside the cinema. :O

I wouldn't say 'never.' It all depends on who grabs the rights first, and what they do with it. If it's Paul W. S. Anderson, then you can kiss your video-game film goodbye. He's the 'mastermind' behind such hits as the Resident Evil trilogy and the Aliens Versus Predator films, among others. However, every so often a film comes along that is more of a gem than something to be hidden under the stairs.

While it is by no means an amazing film, Silent Hill did a really good job of transitioning the game series, primarily the original Silent Hill, to film without losing the audience, or the feel, tone and story of the source material. Off the top of my head, that is the best video game - to - film transition in a long time.

And don't even get me started on Doom. The first person was cool but that was all it had going for it.

Wasnt the Alien and Predator series's movies before the games or vice versa? I think the Alien movies were first (hence why the movies are alright lol).
I never saw the FF films, there was alotta hype around them.

We will see nonetheless whatever film this looks like, most of all the WoW players will see this (Since this movie is conerning their game).

Alien was the first in the Aliens/Predator franchise, and Predator came a little later. There was no intention of crossing the two over, but both creatures were designed by H.R. Giger, who is a nightmarish genius. After the third Alien film and the second Predator film, however, Aliens Versus Predator was released on the PC. It was, as far as I know of, the original game to combine the two series.

Every film released after that about Aliens, or AvP, has been almost complete crap. Paul W. S. Anderson had obtained the rights for the AvP films not long after the second game came out. He made a smart move by waiting until the Alien hype had all but died. However, he pulled a regular Paul W. S. by producing a load of crap that poses as a summer flick. Of course, he still made plenty of profit, considering everyone who like Aliens, Predator, and all the FPS gamers out there, as well as other Sci-Fi fans, all went and saw it in the theater.

That's the cyclical nature of bad video game to film adaptations. The fans hope for the best, see it in theaters, thus giving the people who made the bad films more money to continue to produce bad films for a continuously hopeful fan base. It's us as the viewers, as the fan base itself, who need to attempt to weed out the bad films from the good ones. Hence why I rented AvP and have no desire to see Requiem.

And don't even get me started on Doom. The first person was cool but that was all it had going for it.

It looked like they just fired up the game and hit record. That is not impressive movie making. Especially when you consider that you can render much higher resolution graphics for a movie than a game. DOOM had virtually nothing going for it. I banned a certain friend of mine from picking movies for the group as a result.

Anyway, supposedly Uwe Boll approached Blizzard about directing a Warcraft movie, and they blew him off. Allegedly, they don't want a failed movie to ruin the appeal of the game. Heh.

I never claimed that DOOM's First Person scene was 'impressive,' just simply 'cool,' as in that was the only part of the film I actually had fun watching.

I am confident that this movie will be deemed the first amazing video-game movie. If it doesn't meet Blizzard's standards, they'll just cancel it. That's why everyone loves Blizzard.

Also, Legendary Pictures is really hot right now with The Prestige, 300, and The Dark Knight. I'm sure they'll rock with Warcraft.

By my understanding, the games are actually based on the comics that were created. Comics do a hell of a lot of crossover style things, and AvP was one that simply took off really well. Later, an Alien skull was placed in the Predator ship at the end of Predator 2. Initially, this was supposedly what kick-started the AvP series, but there had been a comic about a year earlier. Of course, by doing this, it whipped up a nerdstorm in people who weren't actually aware of the comics, and it's been like cheese and wine ever since.

For the record I assume that if Blizzard maintained creative control (see: The Dark Knight) then the movie will kick ass.

If they don't, it won't.

I think though, after TDK, hollywood is starting to realize what fans actually want. Less Batman & Robin and more Batman Begins.
