View Full Version : Looking to step up my protoss game
Whats up Im new here. Ive played SC for a few months now and Im about your avarage player , Just playing with friends cool custom maps ect. But with SC2 on the way Id really like to step up my game a level or two to get that next tier of managment and planning down as a player.
Im a real defenisve minded player which I think is my down fall I waste so much time and mats on protecting myself I get so far behind on the offensive side that my opponets have to go nuts with there offence. I mean Im not a scrub but its this next level of speed offence minded player that I cant seem to get around.
Ive been playing alot of BloodBath and Lost but I keep getting handled by obviously better players but I dont seem to improve any. Ive started timing myself to see now fast Im doing things and I keep getting quicker as far as building but I think I may be building the wrong things or maybe a few clicks out of order?
I dont really know any "pros" so I've had to kind of learn on my own as I go any advice as far as "This is the accepted standard , master this and it will be a good foundation" I'd really appreicate.

Watch replays from here: http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft/replays
Play maps from here: http://sc.iccup.com/info/maps/
Watch VODS from here: http://youtube.com/user/diggitysc?ob=4 (In his profile description there's links to a bunch of other cool commentators, I'd reccomend Combat-Ex because he plays protoss and is like, C+ level or something on iCCup)
Submit replays here for analyses: http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=34332
EDIT: Oh, and welcome to warboards, enjoy your stay, blah blah blah, be nice to everyone and dont post in really old threads and everyone will love you, blah blah blah

Bloodbath is a horrible map to learn on, it teaches you nothing about the next tier of starcraft gaming. Still, its better than playing fastest maps :P (Do not play these if you want to get better at low money maps). Just post your b.net username and one of the warboads members that play sc you can play with. I should have some spare time later tonight.
Python is a very friendly map to beginners because that ramp allows you to make mistakes but still stay in the game. For your defensive mindedness you have two options. You can take a break from starcraft for a week or two to help unlearn your bad habits of defending to much, or you can play every game aggressively from here on out. If you play aggressive it doesn't matter if you lose (I.e. if you play zerg build lings and not sunkens, and look for openings in the enemy's defense).
That vod anderoo provided is very good (just watched it, he explains a lot of things I didn't understand).
So basically post your main race, your b.net domain, and account name, and watch those vods, and download some replays. Welcome to warboards.

He did a good job on that video, and apparently he's gonna do 2 every week from now on. I didn't understadn why at about 5:45 he sees one sunken colony and assumes mutas though, he was right but when I go muta i make more sunkens to make up for my lack of defences at my nat in terms of ground units, since all of my larvae is going to air. :S
word. Thanks guys, thats a wealth of information I'll be sure to go threw it. Also thanks for the tips , Ill let both rattel around in my head a little bit and see what i come up with.
My main race is: Protoss
B.net name is: 20MinNoRush (used to be JustAkx but it said my pw was bad so I had to remake)
I have sparatic play times but any time you see me on hit me up Im always up to learn.

Well, I am an average Terran player, but have been playing Protoss a lot lately. I've found that with the Protoss, more than any other race from my experiences, you can just about stick with the basic units (Zealots and Dragoons) and win almost any battle. You've just got to have more than the other guys, lol. In my games with other guys here on the boards, I've found that going for the higher-end stuff doesn't really help. Their carrier is not as great a match against a battlecruiser as you might think, and you can get 33 Dragoons for the cost (in minerals) of 12 carriers, and that many dragoons can take down just about anything and take little damage. Especially with a dozen or so zealots to mop up any stragglers.

Not siege tanks. They are the indomitable force that is the Terran! ^^ And vults are there with my mines! And you'll need high templars for late game, or mid game early tech :P
I learned you can win almost any battle if you have good macro ;)
And you never posted if you were on west or east which makes a huge difference for people on warboards (those traitors are always on east...)
Meh. Macroing doesnt win you the battle but macroing during a battle will win you the game.
Anyway, At Veeger hate to break it to you but a 3-3 200 terran ground force will rape your 3-3-3 200 ground force unless you get some uber flank but terran wont allow that. Your gunna needa HT/DT/Reaver/Arb/ or carrier to win a late game.
Also depending on map 12 carriers are better than 33 goons.

Are you saying that if the Protoss has 2k minerals, and only an 80/80 army versus my 235 minerals, and 100/100 Terran army that he will beat me?
No sorry. When I saw what you typed I thought you ment to say micro
"You can win almost any battle with good micro"
=p my fault

There is only so many lurkers that one marine can kill :P

Au contraire; there are an infinite number of lurkers that can be taken out by one 'rine!! Muahahahaha!!!
Of course, you'd be busy taking all the expos and teching while he was busy, but still.

Until your hand cramps up, and he flanks you with lurkers. You still have to defend your base :P So false!
Look at 7:12 though
