Surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Did anyone get an iPhone 3G?

I ended up lining up in Boston for a night, and got mine at 8am on Friday. The verdict thus far: FUCKING SWEET.

I saw their new store there -- just opened in October, didn't it? That's the biggest cube they've opened so far, if I'm not mistaken.

As for the iPhone, I'm quite all right with my crappy phone as of yet, and I'm saving up for the ubiquitous Microsoft tabletop or a CNN screen in a few years.

My brother works at Optus (Australian phone service provider) and he's sick of the iPhone. Everyone asks when it's out, after he tells them many times, people expect to pick it up when they only takes pre-orders for the first three weeks, and it's really a waste of money.
The money spent on it could easily buy a better phone with the same use.

What am I, rich?

All apple products are inferior anyways.

Hahaha well said mag.

Theres plenty of mp3 phones out there, and just because this one works with itunes, doesnt make it worth 800 or whatever to me.

Ill stick with my ipod and my cell phone...

Thirded, my cousin bought an iPhone and traded it in for an N95 in a week. He said he never owned (and never intend to) anything as crappy at it was.

As I recall saying in the last OMG iPWN thread: I've better things to do with my money than buy a computer phone toy.

Well fad or not I still think it is a very cool thing. I have a few friends who are developing programs for the Iphone (games apps ect..) they asked me if I wanted to help out. So if that pans out i'm sure i'll be getting one here before too long. 3g still isn't as fast as i'd like it to be tho.

The iPhone is still pretty cool, but until it can run Flash I guess I'll stick with my Sony Milo. ;)

Actual keyboard ftw

If that phone was black instead of white, it would look 10x better.

I saw people lined up at the mall today; but didn't care much myself. My price range for cell phones is focused more around the 'free' variety.

iphones are really awesome though, I just wouldn't buy one (I'd stick to ipod+phone combo). But, now, if someone gave me one or I won one, I might be ecstatic. Well, that's too strong. But It'd be pretty awesome.

My razor suits me just fine thank you very much.

The Razor is not an awesome phone. And as I recall, the MSRP on a Razor was around $350 when it came out, and just like the iPhone, everyone wanted one when it first came out, despite the lack of real advancement over any other phone on the market. The Razor was a fad that caught people on its looks; everyone and their mother had (or still has) a Razor. At least the iPhone has some nice features that very few other phones have.

Also, the price drop from $399 to $199 isn't anything to do with the hardware, but is rather because AT&T started subsidizing the hardware, which is a relatively standard practice across most carriers for smart phones. I encourage you to throw this in Apple fanatics' faces if they start gabbing about how awesome it was for Apple to lower the price.

Anyway, the iPhone is a decent machine, but I just bought a Blackjack II for about the same price, and I'm more than satisfied with it. It's not good enough to be worth breaking a contract, though. If you've fulfilled your contract and are considering a new handset, it might be worth a shot. After my contract with the BlackJack II is complete, I may look at iPhone 50 or whatever is out at the time.

my iPhone does and fulfills every purpose I purchased it for, and now more so with the App Store.

Feng, hope you enjoy it - I'd upgrade to the 3G except for uiuc being an at&t 3g deadzone, and not wanting to pay the 3g tax. EDGE works just fine for the small data I tend to transfer while away from Wi-Fi.

Modred: I considered the Blackjack II. Enjoying it so far?

The iPhone doesn't work up here (no reception) and it's a little pricey. Not to mention I'm not a big Apple fan. I'm content with my simple, WORKING cell phone, and my mp3 player. If I want entertainment, I'll watch TV or go online.

It's doing everything I wanted it to do. Sync to my email, let me check news and sports on the road, make phone calls and so on. The camera is about the same as the one in the iPhone, so it's use for photography is practically nil, but what do you expect from a cell phone? It's sometimes convenient when I need to capture a photo of a something for later reference.

Windows Mobile 6 is an alright platform. There's a reasonable amount of software available, and I can use Visual Studio to create my own programs if I want. The stuff it gets right, works well. Some of the features are awkward or deep in the menus, so it takes a little acclimation and isn't as non-techie friendly as the iPhone, but its learning curve probably isn't much higher than most regular phones. In short, I like it.

I'm not spending $75 a month.

AT&T takes enough of my money as it is.
