Well, I was just wondering, Starcraft 2 will be using battle.net as its online provider right? Well, Suppose we played other games through battle.net such as Warcraft III. And through those games we created user names, now I understand Starcraft 2 is a new game, but will user names already registered with Warcraft III be already taken? Any thoughts on the matter?

Well, my starcraft username wasn't taken when I got warcraft 3, so I don't see why from warcraft 3 to starcraft 2 should be any different. And it's not like your warcraft 3 username would work on SC2 bnet (or you could play using bnet without needing a CD key and stuff). I dunno, just seems impractical to me. Especially if say, a pro player at WC3 was really well known by his username, but then had to make a new one to play starcraft 2? I think enough people would be unhappy that blizzard wouldn't do it.

Erm, gamer and chim, what are you doing? This isn't a thread to post your bnet username. How could you have a bnet username for SC2 already anyway? -__-

The names will NOT carry over from Warcraft III to Starcraft II, same as how they didn't carry over from WC3 to SC. They may both run battle.net, but they're different games, thus with different usernames. If someone is named "Blargeshnargle" on WC3, it doesn't mean it will be taken on SC2.

Thanks masterofhobbiton and Starcraft78cwal for clearing up that matter with me.

Wait. I thought your username was on Brood War, and you could access it with a different games other then the one you signed up?

I don't know, I use the same username for starcraft and d2. Depends on which way blizzard wants to go with it I suppose.

Right now here's how it works:

WC2, SC, Diablo and Diablo2 all share the same battle.net. Which means that if I have an account "Aqo" on at least one of those games, I will be able to access an other game's battle.net with that same "Aqo" account, which is pretty cool, it means I have SC victories and barbarians on the same account like Mag ;p

WC3 however uses a different account database, for an unknown reason.

This shows no pattern; SC2 can either have accounts shared with WC2-SC-D-D2, or shared with WC3, or entirely separate. It's impossible to anticipate how would Blizzard handle it.

No, I think SC and War 3 has a different userbase, they are not linked, so one name for SC does not mean it's taken for WC.

MO hobboton: Well, my username is going to be the same. dur. Tigermonkey for SC = Tigermonkey for SC2 as well. If i have to make seperate accounts, so be it.
