I'm making a new map, and whenever I try to open it, the "Error Opening Map" message comes up and I know that the map isn't protected. Also, whenever I try to save any map, ScmDraft crashes. :concern:

Do you (did you) have any other programs doing anything with the map? Ex. If you're testing the map in StarCraft at the same time.

Nope, no other starcraft program was running. Also, whenever I close scmdraft, I get the "Something bad happened, want to save a diagnostic file?" message.

I'm using the latest version of 0.8.0. Twitch gave me this version and it was called ScmDraft 2.0B, or something like that.

Mind submitting the map?It may just be the map.Or you could try opening the map in xtra editor then opening in scm draft.

I've had this error before. You have to reinstall StarCraft and SCMDraft.

EDIT: Zomg I reinstalled Starcraft and SCMDraft 2, but still nothing! SCMDraft crashes whenever I click on save!

So this happens to all maps you open?

And you're sure that this particular map wasn't just randomly corrupted, which often happens when running SCMDraft?

Well I know that one of my map was corrupted, because I couldn't even open it or host it on b.net, but whenever I edit any map, it randomly crashes.

And yeah, I probably have like a billion viruses on my computer. I have to reboot it sometime... :concern:

I've tried to run my anti virus program, but my computer always freezes up so I have to close it. I'll try those spyware programs Basan.

The problem might be that your AV isn't up to date any more - either it being in AV database or in its engine, it really doesn't matter - and thus the virus is able to lock the program up when it's trying to run to get rid of it. See what program version and which is the AV DB version you've got and eventually post it here so we can help you out if it requires such. ;)

IF you can go to bit defender.com and run their online scan.That will get you somewhere.Then if you can delete your current anti virus and get bit defender 10 free or Nod32.

I had a similar virus a few weeks ago. The way I nailed it was I used the Anti-Virus to scan most of my files, and then on the directory that the Anti-Virus froze on I switched over to the "Search" feature in Windows in that directory. That froze on the same file that the Anti-Virus did, and from there I proceeded to send it to the recycling bin. Restart the Anti-virus search and it came back clean.

Is there an update available? Maybe if you get the latest version (assuming there is one) it'll work again.

Back in the day, I'd probably have your solution by now, but I've slipped away from SC.

zomgzomzgomzgomzgomg i ran a virus scan and i apparenly have over 1400 infections (w/e the hell that means)!! my computer has been freezing up forever and i needa reboot it but I needa save all my files. none of my cds are working and I can't send folders through my email!! zomgozmgozmgomzogmgom i'm gonna die!!

Frankly, it depends of the virus itself. I've had viruses that didn't allowed me to clean the file and thus leaving me only with the option to delete all the infested files.

If it can't or it freezes, put all the important files on a USB thingy.

And just recall to use that USB pen right away on another computer if it hasn't an updated AV and not previously scanning the pen prior to its use. Obviously, the same goes for any downloaded files. :P [/sarcasm]

Quite frankly Dem0n', just get a new AV if you can't update that one to a recent version and then clean that virus colony PC of yours. :rolleyes:

In speaking of scmdraft, I can't find the "Disable Doodad State" trigger anywhere. Doesn't it have it? I can't use X-tra Editor like starcraft.org recommends (I'm pretty much trying to do the thing in this tutorial http://www.starcraft.org/maps/MappingTutorials/Making+cloaked+bunkers+buildable+like+in+Turret+D with pylons instead of bunkers in order to simulate the Temple of Death burning down after you defeat the evil life fanatic) because you can't use two different editors to work on the same map (or can you?).

Disable doodad state is part of the "Set Doodad State" action. And no, I haven't rebooted my comp yet. I'm still saving the music. :P

Sure you can. I use SCMDraft for stuff StarEdit can't do, and StarEdit for everything else because I like the format better.

It crashed because I used the Diable Doodad State trigger on pylons. I know it was because of that because it didn't crash when I removed that trigger. Interestingly enough, the same trigger on bunkers does not make the game crash (although it doesn't make them invisible like the tutorial said), however, Toggle Doodad State will crash if used on bunkers. I think it may be different for each structure/unit/whatever.

It is. You could have just consulted an reference on Staredit or Maplantis that tells you what units can be disabled and what units can't. The only disableable terran buildings are the Bunker and Engineering bay. The pylon can't be disabled because it's the one that enables buildings; other Protoss buildings that feed off the pylon can be disabled and enabled (I believe the Nexus can't be disabled).

Most infantry units can be disabled but not enabled. Tanks are commonly disabled as well, in defense maps, due to the fact that it renders the tank immobile but still able to fire. Here is just such a reference that I was talking about;

Ah, thanks, that makes sense. I'll just use another suitable protoss building since pylons don't work... by the way, why is it that almost all zerg stuff crashes the game? Is it something about being zerg?

EDIT: The guide is slightly off. Stasis Cell/Prison thingies crash the game, but it said that they would just cloak. Meh, I should be able to find something for the job that doesn't crash...

EDIT2: What's the limit on locations? I'm going to need a lot of them =(.

Ah yes but thats also outdated as there are new ways to do the disable enable enable trick.

Touchpadmaster was the one who first used it.

How it goes is like this-

You can do some pretty neat-lookin' stuff with this effect - the cloaked shield battery for example, keeps the little glowing lights it has when it's cloaked. It kinda screamed "water fairies of healing power" to me =). And it also says that marines can be cloaked with this effect, I'm going to try that one too...

That maybe so but the llink he gave you is only for disable enable enable there is a difference.
Heck the one with waits order give and move sometimes change if you can see the unit or not.I have basically found out almost every unit can be cloaked somehow someway.Or atleast stacked.

Ahh but you are wrong see woith disable wait enable wait enable wait order wait give move he can be cloaked and be able to walk :P.

Ok thanks, I didn't understand most of what you said but the map file showed me what I needed to do =D. So I CAN have the Phantom Archer o' Doom without modding =D.

EDIT: How many locations am I able to have? I'm having this feeling that I'm going to have to scrap my miniboss if it's anywhere under 200-something... and I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in the 60s =(.

Well for vailla starcraft(starcraft original)Yu can only have 65 I think.
For starcraft broodwar however you can have 255 locations.
Plus with if you know how to reuse locations it can be about as many as you need.

EDIT: Is this list on what crashes the game and what cloaks and such the same as it is with just disabling or can your trick be used on anything? I noticed that the list for disabling said that, for example, disabling zerglings would crash the game, but I remember a zergling blood map in which the zerglings were permanently cloaked. Is this how the guy who made that map did it?

As for Battle.net, it has it's places. I saw a disabled marine in a map ages ago, and disabled bunkers make a regular showing in Defense maps. And I know I've seen a Disabled Barracks before (I believe it provided the tech requirements, but couldn't lift off). I'm sure its for the same reason you don't see very many visible Dark Templar :) (If you want to know what I'm talking about, hallucinate a DT in any game. The trick is finding a way to make it attack)

That's because the guide was made for an older version of Starcraft. Versions change, and so do their memory locations, and thus so do the effects that you get from disabling them, among other things.

Whenever I tried to enable some units, I always crashed the game. Twitch, do you know if it's possible to get a disabled unit to play its walking animation while remaining disabled/immobile?

I'm remembering some glitch that allowed you to make permanently cloaked Zerg units using burrow and an Arbiter... I wonder if he just made a few triggers to do that for the computer...

It's possible, but trying to replicate a glitch with triggers is a terrible, terrible idea. The amount of precise timing and troubleshooting required to get it to work would just be off the wall.

savefile is a file host like mediafire but instantly gives the file.

Er... well, I managed to figure it out. It had absolutely nothing to do with what you said. It was actually something to do with the map revealers I had and that you had the trigger in a different order or something like that... bah, I don't care why it works, I just care that it does =P.

EDIT: I have successfully made a permanently cloaked zergling! YAY! I'll remember that if I ever work on my old zergling blood map. (Ultralisks, on the other hand, appear to crash the game)

If you figure out the damage thing, let me know. I've seen it on a map I've just been using to test mods WITH NO TRIGGERS! I can't figure out what in the world causes it...

save file just does that for description reasons.
Anyways your problem lays within the build times.

Ok thanks, got it fixed =). Also having trouble getting a transmission to play for one of the heroes but I think I should be able to fix that one...

EDIT: Is there a way I can disable doodad state without assigning a location to each thing I want to disable?

Ok, this is wierd...
Conditions:
Whatever you want ( inclued this in the "move"/"tellaport" trigger of the building )

Actions:
Disable 1 Terran Bunker for Current player at Bunker 1
Remove 1 Protoss Nexus at Stack for player 8
Move 1 Terran Bunker for current player at Bunker 1 to Stack
Preserve

That doesn't make sense... you can't disable more than one thing at a time (you need to make a location for each thing you want to disable or else it doesn't work for some reason)...

EDIT: Ok, I figured out that the amount of nexuses I have in the stacking location determines how many bunkers will go there. But there's a problem: When I get too many nexuses (and that amount is under the number of bunkers I have), the bunkers don't fire from their original location anymore. How do I fix this?
