View Full Version : Centering Turrets

Ok, I'm trying to change the graphics on a Siege Tank, and I'm building a new Turret. I've made the BMP image size the same as my Tank's image size and centered the Turret inside it, but when I go to test it the Turret is hovering over my tank and back a bit. My turret is more rectangular than the normal turrets, and I'm wondering if that plays a factor.
Any help would be, as always, appreciated.

You need to edit the lo* file that's associated with the tank. That file dictates the placement of the turret on the tank.
To find out which lo* file it uses, go into datedit and find the tank base images.dat entry. In the "Extra Overlays and Placements" tab you should see the lo* file that's used.

If you want it more centered, that should do it. The .lo? files control the position of things like turrets. If existing lo? files don't give you the results you want, you could go download loedit and make a new one yourself.
EDIT: Dammit U-238, you beat me to the punch :P My first solution is simpler, though.

The goliath.lol looked like it works great, thanks for the help! Out of curiosity, why did you call it .lo? and what do the .lo? for other units (such as the SCV) do (my guess is that the SCV controls the jet-pack glow).

There are many uses:
- turret position
- landing/lift off dust position
- powerup position (including resources)
and the list goes on...
DatEdit will provide some info in the tooltips.
He wrote it lo? because there are many lo* filenames, mainly doing the same thing but having different extensions to better denote their purpose. Check the SC source files to see all the overlay files. You can open and edit them in LO? Edit.

I've often found that;
LOF - Is the turret offset for building flames
LOL - Weapon turret offsets, for tanks and goliaths
LOO - Mineral and gas offsets for workers
and etc. You can zoome through DatEdit and just infer what the various ones do just from looking at which one is under which overlay.

By "turret offset" you mean "overlay offset", right ? :)

They're the exact same thing ;)
