History

The Ancients
- Not much is remembered about the ancients. It is known that they were masters of architecture and science, able to fly through the air in solid steel and able to build buildings capable of reaching Lune. They wielding the ability to conjure this ability from seemingly no where. And they had the incredible ability to hold nature at bay.
- Then one day, the magic they controlled disappeared and the society they built - which spanned the entire globe - crumbled nearly overnight.
- That was over 5,000 years ago. Nothing from that period survived. Stone crumbled, metal collapsed to be overwhelmed by nature again. All written history from that time disappeared to the sands of time, never again to be read by the inhabitants.

Racial Connection
- Each race thought they were all that were left for centuries. They confined themselves to certain areas, content in their knowledge. For hundreds of years, the societies prospered and grew into completely different cultures. Each society learned a different language, had a different way of life.
- One by one, the societies began to knock on the doorways of each of the other societies, not aware they existed. Until the day the nomads began to wander again and eventually encountered all the currently known races save one, for at the time it didn't exist.
- With the help of the nomads, the leaders of the races set up the boundaries for their lands. With these boundaries laid out, the Age of Prosperity dawned anew.
- Erahlanr Shadetracer of the highborn, Rokfah Bravefounder of the strongblood, Rex Dragonsword of the nomads and Koilaa of the 'barbarians' were credited with bringing about this age.

The Magicians
- For 10 generations, the age of prosperity continued. This caused some of each race to begin to study the forgotten eras. They believed that since they have come as far as they have, they can begin to recover the lost knowledge of the ancients which spawned the current societies.
- These became known as the magicians. They corresponded with others from the other societies to share their findings. They soon became very powerful and respected as they constantly displayed their powers, called magic by those who watched in awe.
- They soon became distanced from their peers as they continued to grow in power
- Soon, they felt outcast from their own peers, and eventually talked to only each other, believing none to be to their increasing standards. Thus, they began to plan their exodus, recruiting their most trusted assistants and those whom seemed up to the task of learning the magic brewing within the magicians.
- One day, the leaders of the societies came to the magicians to find out what they had learned over the years, only to find them gone. The leaders mentioned the absence to every other leader and were enraged to find the magicians had all disappeared.
- They each sent out a search party of a dozen, hoping to find a lead and eventually bring the magicians to justice for their abandonment. Only one man returned. He brought news of the magicians. He said the magicians turned their backs on society, believing their craft to be superior. He told the leaders that the magicians did not plan to return, nor did they plan to meddle in the affairs of uncivilized people, believing them to be above the affairs of 'mortals'
- The leaders were furious and amassed an army to destroy the fools. During the ensuing battle, however, the magicians demonstrated the awesome power of their magic. Combining their powers into one, they cut a swath of destruction through the army before them, decimating the attackers. Those who remained ran as if their lives depended on it, and indeed they did.

Since that time, no nation has dared oppose the magicians, knowing first hand the power wielded by these mysterious men.

The Races

Strongblood
- Dwarves.
- Live near mining centers and work the mines from the ripe age of 5.
○ As they age, they go deeper in the mines until death – they do not believe in retirement, and thus work their entire lives for the good of the community.
- They’ve shortened due to the height of the mines they work in – the height gets shorter the deeper you go, simply to keep the mine integrity from being undermined and collapsing.
- Masters of architecture and smithing. The finest smiths in all the land are Strongblood.
- Best armed fighters, and their strength is rivaled by none save the [barbarians of the extreme cold].
- *Appearance:
○ Between 5'3" and 5'8", generally 160-220lb of pure muscle

Highborn
- Elves.
- Live primarily in forests.
- Masters of stealth and hunting.
- Live entire life in the trees and forests in which they are born – hence their namesake. One could walk under a highborn settlement and never once become aware of what lies above.
- Best hunters, trackers in all the known world.
- Can sense danger before they ever see it, so they also make the best guides.
- Years of living in the trees have enhanced their vision so they have superb eyesight.
- No archer in the world can out shoot a highborn.
- Appearance:
○ Tall and lanky, around 5'9" to 5'11", weighing around 120lb to 140lb.
○ Generally light brown skin, borne from their surroundings the coloring of the trees in which they spend all day.
○ Prefer neutral colors for their clothing to allow more effective blending of their surroundings.

The Nomads
- These people move from place to place, settling in a place for never longer than a month.
- Harbors an extreme distrust in that which is unknown to them.
- Considered to be jacks of all trades. Never as good at archery as highborn, never smith well enough to be considered strongblood, never as brave as barbarians. However, nomads have learned to incorporate themselves within these societies, as they know that separation of the societies would prove highly detrimental to all.
- Exceptional diplomats, can be called upon to act as outside interpreters for internal and inter-societal issues.
- Rarely act on impulse alone, rather preferring to read every action as part of a greater scheme and try to determine the scheme. As such, they make the best tacticians, planning everything out in exacting detail.
- Appearance:
○ The average height is 5'4" to 5'9" and generally 140lbs to 170lb.
○ Wearing neutral colors when travelling, this group primarily stands out in cities due to the extravagant colors they choose to wear.

Barbarians
- Barbarians: They live within the extreme cold of the world.
- They hunt with spears made from the bones of their fallen, believing those to be stronger than any iron. However, they merely wound the animal, preferring to kill it by hand.
- Thought to be heartless and evil, these giants of men do anything it takes to feed their brethren in the harsh reaches of the Sister of Lune.
- Very religious. They pray to the god of the animals they kill, trying to appease it. As they generally live in the poles of the world, they experience extreme lengths of night and day. They pray even longer during the night, believing the sun to be the supreme and that the lack of it means the gods are angry with them.
- No man alive can outfight a barbarian in hand-to-hand combat.
- Appearance:
○ Monsters of men. Shortest reported is about 6'4" and tallest ever seen was expected to be well over 7 feet tall.
○ Weigh anywhere from 250lb to 340lb

The Magicians
Not much is known about this selective group of people. Said by some to number in the thousands, said by others to number in the hundreds, no one has an accurate estimate of neither their number nor of their homeland. They keep to themselves, said to study on the forgotten lore of the universe. Stories range from them appearing from nothing to incinerating an entire forest with a mere snap of their fingers. As such, they are feared.

Is there really a need for a character sheet? Everyone should know by now what is required, so go for it. Also, the magicians are off-limits; I just threw them up for completion's sake. Once I get a few people I'll throw up what's going on recently.

Well, here we go. This really looks interesting, so here's my char sheet.

Name: Thorad
Race: Barbarian
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 240 pounds
Age: 23
Description: Relatively short for a barbarian, Thorad was always picked on as a kid. On hunting trips he was beat up or forced to make an impossible shot with his spear. When he decided to fight back, he became one of the strongest hand-to-hand fighters in their whole tribe. Thorad also became adept with close-range and long-range throwing of the spear. His short black hair is sawed off at the back and front with sharp stone when it gets too long. He personally dislikes all the prayers and religious ceremonies of the Barbarians, but does them to appease his father, the tribal leader. At 23, Thorad is just beginning to start his adult life. He plans to travel abroad and earn money as a mercenary.

Name: Rak
Race: Highborn
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 120 lbs
Age: 21
Description: Tall and lean, and a very good hunter/archer. He wasn't very good at hunting and archery to begin with, unlike others of the Highborn race, so he was ridiculed. He eventually became as good, if not better, than most of the guards, with rigorous training which sometimes took all day. He is rather rebellious, and has a sense of humor, unlike most other guards.

Name: Utwaam, Fateseer
Race: Barbarian
Height: 8'2"
Weight: 335lbs
Age: 26
Description: Massive even by Barbarian standards, Utwaam is somewhat of a an oddity in the barbarian culture. His unwillingness to commit unprovoked acts of violence, and deep spiritual connection to the spirit of Sister of Lune, fated Utwaam to become a Shaman from an early age. Now after finishing his apprenticeship with the lorecaller Ragnareh, he has finally earned the rank of shaman, and the honorific of fateseer. As is the practice of the Barbarian Shamans, Utwaam's red hair is long enough to reach his back, and has various bones and talismans braided into it. Utwaam carries only a ceremonial spear, his shamanistic totems, his clothing, and a pair of great stone axes, believing that with the Gods assistance, Sister of Lune will provide the rest.

You just copied and pasted the description of my character, and changed a few words. Use your brain and come up with your own idea. "He eventually became as good, if not better, than most of the guards, with rigorous training which sometimes took all day." That's EXACTLY what I said. EXACTLY. You didn't even bother changing that part.

Name: Occularis “Stareye” Fidelis of the Nomads
Height: 5’9”
Age: 32
Description: People have a way of breaking things. It doesn’t matter what it is (or whose it is), but rest assured, mankind will always be breaking something. Repeatedly. At times like these, it is the job of more coolheaded men and women to keep the peace, and the Fidelis family of Nomads will be there to fix the problem with clever tongues and sharp wits. They are however pragmatic, sometimes there are problems that need a good dose of steel, and the Fidelis clan are also known as excellent warriors. Occularis is no pioneer in this matter, he is a man who is comfortable in the shadow of his great ancestors, traveling ‘cross the world to bring order to the vagaries of chaos. However, Occularis, while famed for his devotion to the Fidelis cause, was ostracized by the rest of his clan when one day, he made a declaration. He had joined the Church of God, breaking the typical Nomad’s neutrality by joining with an organization that , in the eyes of the nomads, promoted strife and disorder through the teachings of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The Fidelis clan felt that he could no longer be trusted to be an impartial arbitrator, and demanded that he withdraw from acting as a judge for the other peoples of the world.

He agreed, for he claimed that he had been taken by a vision (for which he had joined the Church), and that he would now devote his life to the search of ancient knowledge, the works of the Ancients gone. For this knowledge he would give his life if needed, for he believed that the Ancient magics were more precious than the riches of a thousand kings. This was scoffed upon, what madness would drive a man to seek secrets that no other had found?

At age 28, Occularis “Stareye” of the clan of Fidelis, son of the Nomadic peoples, rode for the distant horizon.

Name: Lucas Tan'Havory V'untara

Height: 6'0

Age: 49

Bio:
Luke, like much of the university of the city of Kil'thep's evocation faculty students, was fascinated by the limitless properties that could be obtained both scientifically and mortality-wise in evocation studies. Scientific studies could yield further results with a little magical encouragement, as it were. Things that were deemed impossible, were made possible. As a very simple example, mathematical theories could be viewed in their many variations with their many included variables to prove more conclusive when viewed at literally multiple dimensions. The 4th dimension was proven to be both fundamentally euclidian on some base material points but at the same time behaving much like a parallel universe, though it never had fallen into the 'ideal parallel universal structure' brought on by one of those many lecture seminars that Lucius had found ridiculous.

Luke, having been struck with a fascination with the 'grit of things' at a very young age, studied at the evocation faculty for over 8 years. He'd also elected to study in conjuration as well as to study universal classified structures of self-studied correspondence magic over these years; additionally tapping into the darker, more eldritch side of things, but with trusted caution. He's performed many lectures, attended many conventions (the list goes on) since then. He's an advocate of improving the way the mighty university that hosts dozens of thousands of studious attendees each year, presents it's catologed knowledge.

Luke is also an experimenter. A magic user, or 'wizard' in the most fundamental definition of term; he even has an extensive personal library, containing various historical, scientific, and theoretical records. He's compared theories that conflict with current 'scientific law' and has continually studied how magic impacts the world as a whole. Of course, he has no huge megalomaniacal ambitions of his own, but he is integral enough to self certify himself (and be well recognized) as one of the few freelance mages (or magus') in his own right.

Perhaps such knowledge may someday reach the rest of the world. However, the studies are uncontrolled. The squabblings of theorists and applied scientists such as himself has constricted progress. Perhaps Luke seeks to grant mankind greater clarity? Perhaps he wishes to find a way, a function, like that of a magical sphere's programmable element arranger, to allow strings of human thought to coallesce more efficiently and bring about faster progress. Perhaps then, all conflict would resolve itself, hm?

Personality:

Lucas is brilliantly intelligent, but behaves much almost like an eager young adult, even in his later years, to glean further knowledge in well, anything. He'll dwelve deep, if not deeper, no matter how crazy and alien these texts of knowledge begin sounding to normalised life.

He has a distaste for those lazy minds who merely 'make do'. His view of the other races, even that of the barbarians has in a way, instilled this impression. He despises stubborness when he finds it in others. He's also a bit socially construed, flying about with scientific and magical terminology that sounds nothing like ordinary language. He's always frustrated when others don't understand something, but only when they present an obstacle to further work and study.

To others, he seems arrogant and perhaps even a genuine jerk who irrevocably puts others down for what they don't know, what they can't do, and how useless they may seem to him in a given scenario.

Name: Ramses J. Duvier
Race: Nomad
Height: 5'6
Weight:150 lbs
Age: Mid-twenties

BIO
Ramses' inherent curiosity became apparent to himself very early after he had deserted his parents and tribe to follow a pride of lions within a couple years after his birth. With his heritage, age, family, even his real name completely unknown to him, his early life was made up of sustaining himself by stalking and killing wild animals who strayed from their pack.

In his teenage years, after encountering others of the nomad race, he designed and constructed (with the help of his peers) a large, strong, and quick sailboat, which he christened with the name "Pride".

Due to his reckless and inquisitive nature, Ramses placed a bet with his friends that he could sail around the entire world and would come back with the spoils of foreign lands. The majority of his life has been and still is the fulfilling of this bet.

Along the way Ramses has encountered countless cultures, personalities, riches, beasts, battles of both land and sea, and artifacts dating back thousands of years (One of which was a ship with wings made of tough steel, which had a captain of the name Ramses J. Duvier, which Ramses adopted his name from).

At the present time, Ramses is exploring the globe, leading a crew of pirates aboard his enduring "Pride", who plunder from the rich nations and merchants and give overwhelming amounts of fortune to those who accommodate them at port. It is rumored that at a secret location, Ramses has stored an immensely significant amount of ancient texts and artifacts as well as a fortune to last 10 lifetimes.

Luke, after nearly a week of being cooped up in the library, had chosen to go for a stroll.

It was sunny out, and he whistled pleasingly as he made his way down the mixed assortment of asphalt that currently lined the roads of inner Kil'thep (and would likely change in a year or two).

He was pleased, as one could tell from his whistling. However, this pleasure came not from being outside, but from having successfully mastered a new spell that he himself had created. The spell had cost a dozen hundred material components and many months, though had not fully dedicated himself to the project all this time, having strayed to other forms of work in the meantime.

He'd already proudly announced it's completion, and in a day (scheduled by himself) he would present it to his comity, to be broadcast to the upper echelons of the various study halls throughout Kil'thep. He'd recieved permission some time ago to do this and so the time he was alotted to broadcast in the day was very specific. No man would be their to 'relay' the broadcast; it would simply involve a 'pop' as the atmosphere began to relay holographic images to other parts of the city. Eventually, he might even achieve greater fame on part with that of the higher 'intellectuals' or 'philosophers' within the state of Brollia and the dubbed 'magecrest' capitol.

Now, the spell itself was rumored to be advancement of the traditional scrying spell, however it allowed an out of body prescience for the viewer, to actually see more within the environment they viewed and for longer, as if they were actually present in the location in ethereal form. Theoretically. Luke never planned to reveal anything until the announcement.
OOC: I'm assuming there's several states that fall under rule of the mages, but each individual state isn't as large as any of the states of the other races.

I'd like to point out that magic is mostly feared by all, and as such isn't widely practiced - unless you're a barbarian, in which case magic is largely shamanistic. The magicians grab on all magic users quite quickly, as such the only way you can be a magic user is if you are a magician - which, I might add, I said were off-limits.

Magicians do not meddle in the politics of the area, and keep to themselves in a hidden locale known and accessible only to them.

SolidSamurai

I understand that in comparison to the other races, there are very few mages. There could be only a few thousand mages (though there could be a dozen thousand students). And there could be millions of barbarians (considering that you basically mentioned that there could be various different tribes). You also mentioned that mages are isolated, however it'd make sense to have inner politics among their enclosured states within an isolated region (the mountains/a high region enclosed by a dome for proper atmosphere?).

Can I still be a magician? I don't see how it could offput the RP, unless all the characters are going on some sort of whacky adventure with lots of combat and crazy monsters (like an entryway through hell) where magic could qualify as godmodding? :P

There ARE no separate enclaves. There are only the magicians. For now, but that has no bearing on this RP until I introduce them.

And no.
