Was wondering which weapon you guys like better, lightsabers like in the star wars movies...or the guns we have nowadays.
I'am voting for Lightsabers because:
A.There bad@ss
B.Shooting a gun takes no skill...(except you have to learn how to aim and brace for the recoil)
C.If there was a huge fight, I'd rather see thousands of people fight with lightsabers than guns...

Not that it would be possible to stop a bullet, but perhaps by the time encapsulated plasma energy weapons exist, some type of shielding will exist, or some type of suit which would protect me from such projectile weapons.

Guns take no skill? Are you fucking kidding me? Aiming perfectly towards a target that's 200 meters away from you within a split second is much harder than dancing around with a glowing stick. Guns also look a hell lot sexier (unless long sticks are your thing) than lightsabers. Seriously, the only advantage lightsabers have is that they glow... but that alone isn't enough to beat the awesomeness of a gun.

Guns are clearly the superior weapon. The only reason Jedi are successful with Lightsabres is because they have plot armor known as the Force.

I'd carry 1 around for protection & it's perfectly legal to carry around town because it's not a firearm and no one would know what it is and would probably think that it's a flashlight unless they look at the wrong end and accidentally turn it on LoLz

He'll aim that gun at your face, and he'll get you to drop your wallet on the ground and kick it to him. If you make suspiscious moves (like pulling a "flashlight"), he'll pop a cap in your ass. He certianly won't be afriad to attack you because you have no weapon. Hydrostatic shock will kill you before you even hit the floor.

Not to mention that the Jedi actually have to TRAIN with lightsabres. The thing has no wristguard, no flat edge, no safety. It WILL kill you if you move it in the wrong way. You can't train with the damn thing becuase noone's done it before. It is likely that you'll cut yourself in half on the first try too.

Now say, hypothetically, that you can somehow handle the beast, and you managed to pull it out in time. The hypothetical thug now has several feet of distance between you and him. You must hit him before he pulls the trigger, or deflect his munitions.

The latter is certianly out of the question. Its hard enough hitting a baseball with a baseball bat. What happens when you try to hit a pebble moving faster than sound with a very long twig?

You get a cap popped into your ass.

The first option, striking first, is also out of the question. You are on the defensive. The hypothetical thug has been aiming at you for some time. Who will hit first?

Phhhhht! Shooting a gun takes no skill but you need skill to actually hit something. A good marksman can compensate for distortions and hindrances such as wind or whatever. Considering you are not a jedi and possess no force powers so you would get mauled very very badly.

Guns hands down, why? Explosives and scatter shot weapons like shotguns. Unlike a blaster which can be deflected by a light saber a high explosive round can't. It explodes on impact gutting you with hundreds of pieces of shrapnel, sever burns, shattered bones from concussion, and if some bloody miracle you're still alive you will drown in your own blood from the bone shards and shrapnel that pierced your lungs. Not to mention massive blood loss in seconds and having your shredded organs splattered over a 50 foot radius.

For shotguns you simply can't block a dozen or two of pellets spread out over an area.

Oh and lets not forget about heavy artillery. 2 dozen cannons would lay waste to a thousand people wielding light sabers. Napalm, incendiary shells, high explosives are impossible to beat. Depending on the range it could be half a mile to dozen or so miles away. Enough distance to lay waste to 5,000 jedi or saber nerds, if there were any survivors they would be beat down with bayonets and Gatling guns.

Well you guys need to understand, if you have a lightsaber it means that you have the force too because the lightsabers requires you to have the force to activate it(I think), which is why only the sith and the jedi can use them.(I'am not a major star wars fan so I'am not sure...dont bite my head off if iam wrong ^_^).

Thing about light sabers and guns is the time frame.

It's much easier to generate energy on the fly than to carry around bulky ammo.

Exactly, Jedi take over 2 decades to train. A clone in half the time and 100x more in quantity. Besides some Jedi just plains suck even after 20+ years of training. Clones kick ass end of story.

Ether or not guns are cool are not depends on your moral stand point. My father was cross-trained with some kind of Russian(?) gun that was fully automatic and each training round was capable over blowing the crap out of anything within 50 feet. I don't know the details, but it was wicked enough to merit only 3 gun ranges in the U.S. capable of supporting the use of such a dangerous weapon. The coast guard used it for awhile until they realized they needed the boats intact and floating for evidence, they switched to training rounds for more practical reasons.

I'll go look for the book that has the exact name of the gun, it's somewhere under the mess of my house.

Force can't stop the covenant from glassing Coresant, napalm, automatic explosives, shrapnel, constantly evolving technology, or vastly superior numbers. Of course star wars has a happy ending, but in reality the Jedi would get thrashed easy. Maybe kill a few hundred soldiers, but the army can replace those losses in a month or two. Even if the marines are dumber than the other branches of the military.

Guns are more practical and lethal than lightsabers. Quite frankly If you wanted to post a poll saying Jedi/or force vs guns that would be fine, but in a last ditch dieing effort to glorify your light sabers you switched the meaning from guns or light sabers to guns or Jedi/force even though the poll clearly states guns or light sabers.

Well, that is true, but...they still died. And they wouldn't even be trying without the advantage of numbers, most weren't that stupid (droids are exception).

What about a gun outfitted with cortosis bullets? I'm surprised that, with all the Jedi-killing technologies that the Empire and the Confederacy had developed, they didn't think of cortosis bullets. That would've killed any Jedi foolish enough to depend on a lightsaber (a surprising many).

I guess people like happy endings where Jedi live.

Cortosis alloy can not be penetrated by lightsabers. Pure cortosis will kill the lightsaber for a few minutes.

Jedis haven't used shields for several thousand years and probably aren't going to start anytime soon. When there is new technology there is usually a way to counter it, otherwise both sides would force a stalemate. Yes I agree light sabers are more badass then guns but less pratical.

Depends. If someone just appeared out of nowhere, right now, and gave me that choice, I'd take the lightsaber. Partly for the novelty factor, but mainly so I could reverse engineer it and make trillions of dollars from the technology.

If I was thrust into a war zone, however, and given the choice, I'd probably take the gun. Of course, that still depends on a few different factors, such as how much ammo the gun has, who I'm fighting, etc.
