If its possible, perhaps this could be implemented, I noticed that some of the social groups are probably more devoted to discussion, than others, and that they would probably benifit from a thread-type messaging.

As iHawk suggested to me over skype: perhaps you could create private subforums (such as the moderator forum) that is only accessible to members of the group. This could be used for some social groups that are in need of one, such as the Podcast group. This is all in case thread type messaging within social groups isn't a possibility.

I dunno, just a thought.

Yeah, I agree with you two. This feature will be pretty neat and handy, especially for meetings and conferences; though I doubt this feature will be implemented. Meanwhile, my teammates and I use the IRC channel for discussions. :D

Let's wait for AJ's response.

This is unlikely to happen. Besides causing AJ more work, it just seems pretty unnecessary and complicated.

Besides what exactly is it you'll be discussing? Maybe if the group in question was averaging like like 30-40 posts a day of meaningful conversation then maybe it would happen, but I highly doubt AJ would be willing to just setup random hidden forums for every other group. Who would moderate? Would the staff be expected to jump in and do that? Or do you expect we'll just grant anyone a sub-forum and mod powers?

Talk about becoming insular and unfriendly to newbies :P

EDIT: What's stopping you from just making threads about podcast in the ML anyway? Would it really be that horrible?

i have to question the merit of this.. since every group already has the ability to discuss things internally. i know it isn't threaded like the forums, but where do we draw the line in terms of that?

i'll think about it, but idk.

I think, Darmago suggests this because he thinks that discussions will be organized in a manner that you can easily view discussions of a certain topic within a group.

But, like Neo said, who'd moderate it? The group leader? Or a resident mod or admin?

Sorry, i was somewhat in a rush earlier, really I was just wondering what exactly you'd have to discuss that would be better in a threaded environment that you COULDN'T discuss in ML or somewhere related.

For instance, how many people in the general membership actually know you guys are working on a podcast? Would it be better to be a bit more open and like "hey we're working on this" and stuff?

Besides you can't expect us not to pay attention to such threads and make sure the spammy posts stay out of it.

I mean, maybe one subforum for all the social groups (ie those groups that are directly related to any of the forums we've got going) might be interesting, but meh.

Hmmm.... how about a Sub-Forum in the Member's Lounge only for use as an area for Social Group discussions?

basically I was sitting there looking through the groups, and noticed a few were more devoted to discussion than others. Realizing that the social groups were not exactly focused on discussion, more on belonging, I figured that if there was an easily implimented fix to this, then it should be done, for the sake of the podcast crew, the faith haven, and the literature group for example.

podcast crew could post in ML, faith haven not sure actually, ML prolly. Lit Group should be posting WIP.

:p

But why?
You could add a shout or chat box not subforums, seriously that would be more effective then subforums

The only thing that I might give a swirl around in that group posting item would be the chance to pick the way you want it displayed. I just accepted the 'Old' :P Guard status and my post was on top of the ones that were already there. I'd like to be able to choose if it could be displayed as I have with threads, being the latest post the last one in the latest page. Is that easily doable by any chance? ;)

They already have a shout-box esque message queue, I just figured that some of the groups more focused on discussion could have threaded topics instead of having to discuss everything they might want to discuss on one "thread"
