This little thread is just for the voting and discussion of our favorite genres, which may or may not be used for ideas in the future. I'm allowing people to vote for more than one category but please remember that each category as as vague as I can make it. More specific setting details may be pinned down at a later date.
Happy voting.

I prefer sci-fi or fantasy settings, personally.

Same. Not that I advocate combining the two, but those are my preferred genre arch-types (due in large part because they give the greatest leeway to BS my way out of problems ).

I'd have to go futuristic. Fantasy usually involves magic, which is generally up to anyone's interpretation, while firearms and giant robots can be standardized.
Magic can be standardized too, it just takes some work. If we go Fantasy I'd be willing to write up Magic rules and regulations. I voted Future/Fantasy
I voted future/fantasy, and unlike vIsitor I love it when the two are combined. These two genres are just so much more imaginative, there's so much more that you can put into them. At least that's my opinion.

I prefer modern as my favorite, usually with a twist involved. For example, a modern RP with elements of superheroes. Or a post apocalyptic. The next is futuristic. I enjoy RP'ing them, but looking at my history, I don't think I've joined a single one.
I hate fantasy. Well, not hate, but I find them to be very dull but I tend to join them. Go figure.

I voted for all four. Personally i'd love to try a historical RP. We have one of the best RP forums on the internet and we should be trying new things.
I like modern and fantasy. I would say futuristic but all the futuristic ones (except my own) are all Starcraft, Star Wars, or Halo, which is completely lame in my opinion. I miss Star by Star, that was on the way to being a totally badass RP.

Futuristic, fantasy, and modern.
I was hoping on combining the top two, and due to a technicality in word definitions, I can! Expect a new poll at some point soon. Or never, because the next phase would be to use the scratch pad for the best possible setting and plot. Depends on what y'all think, both in your votes and in your comments.

I look up to seeing another(picked other): Something modern but also fantasy, something that involves creatures but doesn't concern magic. As in, you create your own power that isn't common. I'm thinking of setting one up.
The reason why I don't go for futuristic is because for me it has too many mecha. All the shrapnel of robots flying everywhere. It's just not my type.

Because Star Wars, Star Trek, Starship Troopers, Ender's Game, Mass Effect and dozens of other science fiction universes all have robots in them. Yeah, mecha is a prerequisite of futuristic roleplaying.

That gives me an idea for an RPG...
In the year 2138, the Indecisive Forces of Earth, (they couldn't agree on a name, so make a sarcastic comment and suddenly...) fresh from their defeat and subsequent subjugation at the hands of a race of gigantic kumquats, are faced with a new threat, one far more dire and dangerous than any they have faced before...
...The advent of MECHA! Stop the scientists now, by engaging in massive bouts of genocide, before they can be released!

I would most certainly join that thread Anoiktos. It has kumquats, it has mecha (AKA scifi, fantasy, all types of literature and anime ... apparently ;) ), it is made of win.

I voted everything but fantasy, because we've got D&D for that. :P

Meh. D&D takes too long to play as of now (Although that will be somewhat fixed with 4.0)

And the lore will be further ruined. Yes, WotC, make a tabletop MMO. Never mind that some of us liked it back when Elf was a class or when THAC0 meant something more than a nostalgic dream.

Heh. Elf being a class was so damn funny, as well as the best AC being -5.
SolidSamurai

And nowadays '-5 AC' means you lose.
Whatever, I think 3.5's fun considering you can have like 90 base classes. And at least it's not racial profiling, assuming that the core classes are all automatically human and one-sided.

I voted futuristic/modern, because I personally like the RP's that are based in a semi-modern world with hints of futuristic. Mecha, meh. If an RP contains Mecha, I'd like them to stay around the role that Battlefield 2142 has them at. Military vehicles, and pretty rare at that. Not all powerful by any means, but definately a bonus on the field of battle.
Also, Fantasy is fun, but it needs to be different! Elves, Dwarves, Men, Hobbits, Gnomes. While all fun, they're all so cookie-cutter. That's why I like the Last City RP so far. It's a fantasy that is more or less unlike any other single fantasy story that I've encountered so far. Thans Dark!

Interesting. I'm currently in the Com RP#4, but it's slowed down to near-death. It's the first RP that really caught my interest as far as environment and events, so I jumped into it where before I would've only read the posts. But its setting seems almost ideal to me.
I voted Fantasy/Historical,
I've been a fan of Fantasy for a while and i love history and love
doing American Civil War reenactments on SC, though doing historical
RP's would seem rather boring and pointless because we would have to follow
the events and we would already know the outcome. Now, if the outcome of
the history depends on how we rp, that would be sweet.
(A Confederate America or a nuked up US after the Coldwar or rping out a Texas Rebellion? (Would be cool/interesting rp's imo))
Sadly i lack the skills of hosting such RP's :D
