View Full Version : What do you think of warboards/go to warboards for?

what is wb to u? Is it your best friend? Do you like to use it as your getaway from real life? Or do you think it's just a big hangout?
To me, it's like a big hangout. You know just talking with familiar friends and stuff. But my question is what do you go here for?

I really don't know why I come here. I don't know anybody. Nobody knows me. I don't have any ties from real life to Warboards. Starcraft posts are far and few between, and Diablo posts even fewer.

Another question would arise; Why do I write this? What impact on my life will this post have? Will I be any less lonely after posting this?

Do I desperately search for another like me? Does anybody else ever break down and cry for no reason? Do any of you feel that your life is pointless and are just using Warboards as an outlet, to try to bring meaning to your life?

What you may call just a "Big hangout", I would think of as purpose.

Wait you come for your baby? eww....:P

I come because... well I dunno why, I come because you guys are in a very very extremely weird sense sort of like family to me...

I come here because without my friendship and compassion towards all of you, you would all kill yourself from depression.

I keep coming back because I can't find anywhere else like it. This forum is awesome, and the people here are awesome. A big hangout, a reason to make it to the end of the day, stress relief... Sure. All of it.

And I'm not just blowing hot air around either. I really like this place quite a bit and wouldn't rather be a part of any other online community.

^_^ Just because my activity varies back and forth doesn't mean I don't love the site. It's pretty much the only place I ever post, ever. And even then, I only post when I really feel like I've got something specific to say, which is pretty rare. You have no idea how many posts I've thrown away (especially in the IR) because I get done with them, read them over, and don't think their good enough to be posted.

But, anyway, in the spirit of staying on topic; I've been around a few places over the years, and this place is by far the best.

i come here to buy wife.
So far, not very good merchandise. Hairless boys, hairy women, two goats, one priest and one hermaphrodite Australian. All of them infidels, even though mostly virgin (rare delicacy today).

Not satisfied, might go back to Qatar soon.

I came here to ask a WC3 question. I then came here for the RP. I now come here for the RP and IR (sometimes). It appears to me that some people come here out of a sheer need for attention i.e. the youtube link, single liners lolfags. Not that i'm going to name anyone.

Well maybe just one
Their name begins with a letter
If you guess the correct letter you win nothing
In Soviet WarBoards prize wins you

I came for StarCraft, then I left. I came again, then there was intrigue, and cool members, and a good moderating ethic. Then I stayed.

Now, I stay because it's pretty much a second job.

Oh, and yes, for the lulz.

I come here for the community, to help new members, and because Torrasque made me at the start of the Sons Project.

I return to make the community better, help out, have a good time, and join in on IRC if I have a few minutes, which I probably wont for the next few weeks.

Elaboration will come later.

I came to play WC3:TFT melee with members. Now, I'm not really sure why I come here anymore. Doesn't seem like much of anything happens here, gaming wise. It'd be neat if people discussed console games here more than they do currently.

Sometimes I try to read the IR, but usually people start talking about crap that I don't understand, and from what I read I don't even think they understand what the hell they are saying. Sometimes I try to express my opinion about the new stuff in SC2, but I usually just get "Wow you haven't been keeping up with the new stuff, we knew about this or that three days ago ROFL" responses. That's usually enough to just stop caring right then and there. Then there's the SC people, who I generally just bicker with about small stupid small shit until I give up. You know, the good arguments like why 2 gate zealot sucks vs. terran. Then I remember I've had this exact same conversion exactly 200 times before in my life. Then I wish I could stop playing the damn game (I've destroyed and bought the CD 3 times, btw). Good times.

But for some reason, I still type this damn site in whenever my browser loads. I think I have OCD or something. Sometimes I read all the posts I care to, but I can't seem to navigate away for an extra 10 minutes or so - I just sit there at my computer, staring at the screen refreshing or running through the forum with no new posts. It's pretty exciting. This has been happening more recently now that semester projects are starting to be due, because I enjoy screwing myself over and not doing the work, instead just mindlessly refreshing the page to see if a new post of interest has arrived.

Oh, I almost forgot - The Programming Lexicon, while fairly inactive with new topics, has a nice dedicated group of people who really know what they are talking about. I don't think I've ever gotten a bad response from there. I'm somewhat interested in writing some language specific tutorials and/or seeing if anyone else would be interested in doing that for other languages - that'd be a neat way to learn stuff. Especially with pictures.. oh yes, pictures..

I really do like this site, but I just felt like bitching for some reason. Sorry.

I go to warboards for "friends".

Like?

Alrighty....To name a few...

GA: He challenged me in my walk with God. He also brought to light things in my life that I was overlooking and needed to change.

Gunmonk: I value his friendship dearly. He has blessed me more than he knows.

Neo: He has shown me a new way of how to talk to ppl. A way without being patronizing, condescending, and on a stupid high horse. :]

Protogod: He increased my self esteem.

Protoss_Honor: He too increased my self esteem and also helped my creativity.

Black.Ice: He showed me kindness, and in turn, how to be kind to ppl.

Kong: He's brought out a side in me I never knew I had. Mad kudos to you for pretending to sue me XD

Ubergopher: He showed me how to change my diet so that my mental and physical health would be in much better shape. I have used his suggestions and my life has never been the same :)

Ender: Oh Ender my love! XD [I just had to do that one last time :P] You got me back into writing again. You got my creative juices flowing. You helped me write a book that I have kept in the dark [Mostly because I have not finished yet :P] and I owe you becaue you helped me think on my feet. Thank you Ender :D

I know he doesn't come here anymore and probably never will....

But Carnage.

He was the first one who understood me when I first entered the BF community. He was my first best friend. My first companion. Him and I were inseperable. I was only 16 back then but as I look back I laugh about the whole Myst crap, pretending to be a girl XD He made me feel good about myself when everyone else treated me like crap :)

If I ever met him in real life, I'd give him a huge hug and kiss on the cheek :)

How unfortunate. I thought we had just rid the world of that abomination...now we can post on each other's profiles...such a shame. I suggest we simply keep the groups option and scrap customizing (or at least posting on) user profiles.

Well I think posting on peoples profiles is a good thing. It promotes friendships and gives people the opportunity to have one to one conversations.

The posts in the IRC will go away, and will be forgotten. At least there is one place that's a haven for people to speak with and is a little more private.
I created a list from the public to the most private:
- IRC ~ Public
- UP Conversations ~ Still public but less private
- Private Messages ~ Yeah, you get it.

Firstly, I cannot get access to the IRC at the moment.

Secondly (and correct me if I'm wrong), but anyone can join the IRC and interrupt the conversation. While posting on profiles is also in a public form, there is the 'view conversation' option which enables you to see an uninterrupted conversation.

PMing is too informal and due to the single post nature of it, it is not easy to keep up with the conversation at hand. Therefore, in my opinion, posting on profiles is better.
