That was a good one.
Also, FFVIII, SC:BW, Diablo and D2, Conkers Bad Fur day, and God of War all had good endings.

FEAR or Halo 3. Yeah I know, I could stand it only to see the ending.

I think the cinematics after beating the final boss of the internet are complete pwnage.

Also, WC3 (+TFT), DoW & WA and the feeling of achievment after beating a game of Civ IV in epic length.

I liked the sense of finality and contentment I had when I beat Knights of the Old Republic II. It wasn't a spectacular or even pretty ending, but on the note that it did end and the aftermath of its events all seemed realistic to me. And it's not every day you find an ending to something that isn't 'GOOD WINS BLAH BLAH BLAH', the entire game was more a shade of grey rather than white or black and its ending completed the feeling.

Best
Halo 3 for tieing it all up in a perfect way.

Mass effect for making me want to second one a lot.

Gears for leaving me hanging

Worst.

Bioshock...it goes like this. begining-AWSOME middle-AWSOMER end-wtf...i killed one of the little basterds demon childer cause i wanted some power and it caused me to unleash nuclear bombs on the world.

I'd say the best ending was probably FreeSpace 1 or Descent 2's ending -- both were pretty epic, and FS1's really filled me with a sense of wonder, awe, and extreme satisfaction. Look for my FSOpen review...whenever I get my ass in gear.

Runner-up is Half-Life 2's, but some of that was because it was a finishable cliffhanger, as in I could start playing Episode 1 that night.

Episode 2's was outright sad...I cried a little inside, and that takes a lot of guts for a game to pull that off. Can't wait for Episode 3.

Zelda: OOT was pretty epic, see FreeSpace 1.

For just walking into the series, I liked Halo 2's, as it left me in the same position as it had at the start -- in the dark. Halo 3 corrected this with gobs of bloom and other overdone post-processing effects that should have been on flash-bangs. I'd be blind if I actually owned the game.

Portal's was okay...I'm not counting the credits as the end. There will be a Portal 2, so we'll see where GLaDOS goes with that.

Holy hell yes. The ending to FS1 was AMAZING. Left me with my mouth hanging open. That whole sense of "holy shit, did that just happen?" was handed to me so perfectly that I almost couldn't contain myself... Anyway. As a side note, I also loved FS2...

I also loved the epilogue to FS1 -- really leaves you thinking, not just about the game, but where we as a species are headed.

That shockwave at the end was nothing short of incredible.

The cutscenes in FS2 were pretty cheesy though, and the end was rather unfulfilling.

Can't wait for that. I can also see why the ending to HL2 Ep2 was a little "sad-ish", because Eli had the back of his neck ripped out, and now I can't wait to see what happens in Ep3.

Oh, and the ending to all the Half-Life games were good and suspensful. I liked them.

Homeworld 1's ending was the greatest ending. I felt like I had really accomplished something, and then the credits rolled. Greatest moment in gaming history.

Favourite: Halo:Combat Evolved. Leaves you with anticipation but not with a big cliffhanger.
Halo 3. Same reason.
Kingdom Hearts II Resolves pretty much every seperate story in there (like 15) including the main one.
Final Fantasy X yeah that one was excellent.
Starcraft and Brood War. Awesome :D
Least: Halo 2. MASSIVE CLIFFHANGER DAMMIT
Final Fantasy VII. Sure a picture of Aerith's face is nice but not if it's the entire ending. (Thank god for the rest of the compilation)
Tales of the Abyss. You probably don't know it.

Madness combat 8 ending, the ending of the madness series. Why is it my favorite ending? Jesus finally kills the fucking clown, AND it STAYS dead and doesn't resurrect again. I know it's not a game but inspired a few flash games. Plot?

If you don't have a stomach for mindless violence and/or a wussy don't watch.

Descent 2? I think I might've played that... or maybe it was Descent 1, i have the urge to jump back to those older games every now and then.

ANyone ever played that old game called Fire and Ice? That and Descent 1 made going to my uncles so much fun.

Halo's ending depressing?
Wow.
I mean, sure, everyone dies except MC and Seargent Johnson, but depressing?
Meh.
Also "Broodwar: Awesome/Not awesome".
Care to elaborate?

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and Custom Robo 1.
Well, these were a while ago. I was in elementary school. They shocked and amazed me to no end.

I replayed both, and now they're meh. Standard game ending, a few good twists, nothing really ";ilhagolrbgovjlvc EPIC ENDING" anymore, but still fun to watch for me.

And the Pikmin 1 ending. That was cool.

The whole idea is to kill the temptation of making another one, enough characters die to destroy the plot of any poor remake.

Of course 5 years down the road some programmer with money is going to bribe bungie and make another halo. Do NOT resurrect halo, a great series was not made to be imitated.

Yeah, I liked most Sonic endings on a MegaDrive/Genesis but probably my favourite is the Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles due to their independent endings and the extra connectivity and plot that you get when you plug one game into the other (that before starting the console).
--------

On the PS2 I really liked the endings of both Gods of War, even though I've played it with a friend of mine at his place.

--------
On a PC I really enjoyed the SC-BW and the WC3-TFT ones although I must acknowledge that the history of the later is pretty much a copy of the 1st portrayed from the Sci-Fi universe onto the Fantasy one. :)
Also the D2-LoD seems promising even though I still haven't finished it (and from what I'm getting it'll be a long while before I end it). ;)

Both the 1st C&C and Red Alert were nice as well. A tad cheesy on the acting but pleasant never the less.

I also liked the ending of Soul Reaver 2 and am still playing the initial one. On the same universe series I liked the Blood Omen 2 one although the difficulty n' complexity of the puzzles of the game didn't compare in the least to the Soul Reaver ones.

Most of the Tomb Raiders sure were promising (I loved the mystery touch it had) but never got to finish all of'em. And although the 2 is the one that I reached farther the cheesy bastard denies itself to run in my after a certain level. :(

The [I]Blood Rayne 2 was quite nice (finished not long ago) although it's a tad gory n' gushy. Plus the heroine and it's different outfits (seen that though a cheat) sure are eye candy. :smirk: The above 18 classification it got sure fits the title imao.

I always felt that Halo was somewhat a Microsoft version of Marathon.
Though I admit that I only played the H1 demo and read some of the wikipedia articles.

Meh.

Anyway, on topic, my favorite ending in a game would be the endings in Deus Ex. Especially the Illuminati one has good music and dialogue - though I chose the Helios one because I felt more like being the ultimate dictator :P

The Blizzard games.
Independance war.
Sacrifice. Come on, 14 different endings was it?
Chrono Trigger.

Those quickly come to mind.

Best endings? You mea I have to choose? Well, I'll take the route of most of the responders and choose a couple of games.

Half-Life: That's right, the first one. Never before has an ending rocked my world when it came to the overall pallate of feelings I've felt at once. Started with fear as I realized I wasn't going to defeat the final boss, mingled with frustration as I realized I'd have to restart from my last, horrible save point. Then relief, which was quickly replaced by intrigue, which was quickly replaced by excitement as the man in the suit you see throughout the whole game finally confronts you. Caution, suspicion, and it left me hanging with nothing less than a heavy, urgent feeling for the second to be made and released so that I could see where the story goes. Ironically I still have yet to play the second or its expansions...

Shadow of the Colossus: The perfect ending to perfect storytelling. The story gets no less magical or enthralling as I saw the truth beyond the tasks presented to me throughout the game. And it ended with a charming connection and the long awaited tie-in to this masterpiece's predecessor, Ico.

And finally, The Frozen Throne/Brood War: Both leave you with the same 'Evil triumphs...?' cliffhanger that made (and is making) amazing sequels possible, such as the World of Warcraft, and soon to be Starcraft II. If Blizzard knows how to do anything, its how to hook audiences and make long-term fans.

I liked the ending to Mass Effect, and KOTOR 1. KOTOR 2's pissed me off because the game could of been soooooo much better.

However, the best ending ever has been Metal Gear Solid 2.

*SMALL SPOILER FOR HALO 3*
(If you haven't beaten the game you'll be mad at yourself for reading it unless you don't care about plot)

[quote=RavenCrusade;585273]Halo's ending depressing?

Okay, you guys definitely have some things wrong here. Master chief and Seargent Johnson are the only ones alive from HALO 1. Hence, they made sequels for it, and they still didn't kill everyone off on Earth, and all the humans were already dead before that anyways in Halo 1, besides the few pilots, and others in the novels (less than ten). It explains how sergeant Johnson survived too.

Haven't you seen the ending cutscene for halo 3? Cuz I'm pretty sure they have a lot of other people there. Two compared to at least a thousand (not to mention other worlds) is a HUGE difference compared to just two. And they left it open. "I'll never forgive you for what you've done to my people." What a hard ass  They still have the elites, and the rest of the covenant still alive, as well as the humans. They didn't kill everyone off. And they left it open... sorry to dissapoint you.

Halo 3: Good ending. Overhyped game though.

Call of Duty 4 was my all time favorite ending. It was absolutely amazing. That is the ONE game that made me go back and play it again. The first game to get 1000g on too. The storyline kept you riveted to the great, satisfying, end.

The Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion had a great plot and pretty good ending.

And Gears. The storyline was good. The characters didn't have enough humanness to them, but I still loved it. It tied the current storyline up while keeping it ready for Gears 2.

And beating Medieval Total War, the original one, was something that made me jump up and cheer. Especially as one of the hard countries.

Silent Hill two, not for a specific ending, but for having a number of different endings, some of which only available after beating the game once or twice beforehand. Sounds like a lot to acheive, but after having played through it once, the second run through usually clocks in at about 5 hours if you don't explore too much.

I like Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time's ending mainly because it made me feel sad that I had to stop playing the game. In which case it lets you see the world of Hyrule as it is now that you've finished.

I also liked all the Blizzard games, including the old ones like Warcraft1,2 and Diablo1.

REmake. Totally.
Yea, that game didn't get as much attention as it deserved. Easy some of the best graphics in the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox period of consoles.
