View Full Version : Tomahawk's Role

Inside SOW, we've been having some controversial talk about the Tomahawk's role in gameplay. Reason why we would like your opinion.
We would rig the Toma by giving it a base AG missile volley attack, identical to the Banshee. Additionally, we would take EMP from the SV (since no one uses it as it is now), add a base damage to it, and give it to the Toma as a 100-150 EP default researched ability vs air and ground. Obviously, this would be a late game unit and very effective vs both dark swarm attacks and Protoss in general.
And we have 2 options: either scrap the Valkyrie totally and tweak balance a bit to fill her role (story wise she's dead anyways), or keep her, and give her the so desired Afterburners to make her more usable.
So, what do you think?

So you guys are gonna kick the valk out of the game or what?

That's why we're voting, read the options >_<

So if most of the people are gonna vote "Rig Toma and Scrap Valk", You are gonna kick the Valk out of the game...

I don't see why ppl wouldn't use the emp on an SV, considering it'd be extensively useful against the protoss phalanx, but whatever. What you're trying to say is that the SV is LESS useful, so why not scrap it instead? Jeeze.
EDIT: Voted in favour of valk. Having a mod that scraps any units whatsoever is lame, imo.
Why would we want to scrap the Valk? It's an anti-air and no other unit is in conflict with her role. Plus a Tomahawk + Valk combo would be devastating against almost anything.

How about we dont rig the tomahawk and just give the valk afterburners? Why isnt that an option?

Maybe it's because this thread's title is "Tomahawk's Role"?

Wraiths are usually superior. Valkyries have splash and launch like 6 missiles at a time but they only do 6 base damage. Against a unit such as Carriers, it costs too much and doesn't pack the punch to take out heavy air to air units that might go toma killing. Valks are kind of a good air tanks. With 200 hp and 2 armor. But, their attack really doesn't suit the tank feeling. They are excellent against large swarms of air units. However, the only air unit to really get massed in large quantities against them are mutas, which are small units. Meaning that the 6 damage is reduced to a mere 3. Even so, the science vessel with irradiate is deadly enough to fight off muta swarms efficiently. The only stance I could see the valk playing is against massive quantities of wraiths or scouts. But, even then goliaths would be the better choice because those air units deal little to ground.

LoL, try fighting 20 corsairs with 10 Valks and see what happens :P And they launch 8 missiles actually. 6x8=48 damage per volley + splash damage from other valks. And against mutas 6x3=24. And I kinda know that they suck against capital ships like Carriers and BCs :/
Anyway, I did say almost anything :shiftyl:

Yeah, but if you had 10 goliaths instead would it really matter? You won't lose any units and they will lose 20 sairs.

That would only happen if the sairs would just hover there helplessly while the Goliaths pound on them :P

I always found the valk useless. Scrap it and find a better idea to replace ir or something. All that REALLY matters in the end is balance and fun at a nice little agreement. I want to play something where I can have a balanced game against anyone, not one with one race having a bunch of units that WTF pwn everyone else.

I voted to keep it because I'm a mapper, and the more units to use, the better.

And I also voted to keep it because I'm a graphics artist, and having more units in a race inspires the imagination of a person with greater effect.
