Well, I know this is probably older than your mom but it might be great for people who don't know about it. System Requirements Lab is a site that records your computer specs and show if you can run the games listed on the site. It can help so you will be able to know if you can at least run crysis whatsoever. It also is useful when upgrading because it measures your computers specs so if you failed by 2 bars, it tells you which video card you need and will send you to a site where you can find one.

Not bad, but I'd prefer it if there wasn't an associated Java Applet. Also old as dirt, and I've seen better interfaces for the same thing.
Still, beats crawling through every game's site just for the requirements. We oughta have a fully-fledged program just for this sort of thing that downloads a tiny file, the program reads it, and issues a report that tells you how well you can run it, if you can get it off the ground, and if it will be in a primarily playable state (27FPS or higher at all times)

Actually, it uses ActiveX and Java. I would assume that it utilizes Java for non-ie browsers.
It's not a bad idea, I suppose.
Although I don't think it's practical. It seems to use the requirements the game manufacturer suggest for both minimum and recommended. While good for a basic "can I run it" it's not the best.
Many of these "can I run it" type questions can be answered by asking the person if they have 1gb of a ram, or a good video card.
