This site has a rather large database of maps, but how do you choose which ones are good? It doesn't seem like a lot of maps even have ratings or much in the way of comments, but have many thousands of downloads, and some of the maps with tons of downloads have a lot of comments about how bad they are. So how do you guys tell which maps are worth downloading and trying out?

Read the description, look at it in the map editor, then try it out??

He obviously means the selection process for hosting the maps in the first place.

At least, that would make sense, or else the question would be kind of pointless. Maps and tastes associated with them are subjective, we just download maps and try them, you can't always count on a review by an anonymous peer to be correct, if it were even possible. Usually people download maps when they hear about them, want to get the latest version, or are just looking for something new to try in a specific category.

Well, I just download it, check it out, delete it if I don't like it, and keep it if I do. Or look at the overall ratings (I only look at the ones that are "good" or above).

Or just download pro maps. You can't go wrong with those :).

P.S. This is assuming you're looking for melee maps. If you're looking for UMS, I don't know.

If you want UMS maps head over to maplantis.org. Sorry to say this but they have a much better UMS community than we have here, and with such a better UMS map selection.

If you're looking for melee maps on the other hand, some pro maps tend to be severely imbalanced so try them if you want but a lot of the maps made here are good too. Try the monthly melee map contest maps. I find that broodwarmaps.net has a large database of melee maps.

Um, are we talking about downloading on Battle.Net or on a website?
