View Full Version : Dumb question, maybe

I have built a map and one of the triggers creates a unit which won't appear. The trigger is firing but the unit isn't created.
The unit in question is one of the units you can't natively create with the program; in particular it is Artanis (the High Templar hero with an attack who isn't Tassadar). And... it won't spawn in. Is this an inherent limitation of the engine? Is there a workaround? Or can triggers just not register that particular unit?

Couple things-
It isnt Artanis, It's Aldaris.
And no, it cannot be created with triggers. You have to place them in the editor. You can move him and such, but you cannot create him with triggers.

The same goes for the Razagal, and that other Battlecruiser. Dugalle's, I believe.

That might be wrong(or maybe not) cause i have created most of the bcs via triggers.I have also seen them via triggers.OFcourse that hero temp it will not be created via trigger.
Now that bc that says its a ghost in Scm Draft 2 and other editors it might not be able to be created via triggers.

Thanks everyone, I'll change it to a different unit.

Actually, you can create DuGalle. It's done in the 8th mission for the Terrans.

Ever considered that it could just be a different renamed Hero Battlecruiser, and that DuGalle is just one of those funny leftovers?

does this goes for special buildings like stasis cell, khyadrin crystal formation, overmind, etc. ? you cannot create them via triggers?

Naw, You can create the buildings listed, to my knowledge. The problem is with the units that are hidden in the game.
Razagal(Corsair), Mengsk(BC), Aldaris(HT), and Dugalle(BC) are the only units that cannot be created with triggers. Oh, and Scarabs and Interceptors if you wanna be really nit-picky,

Yeah, it is. Look at the triggers for mission 8. And while we're on this subject, I have a question. If a unit can be create in the actual campaigns that Blizzard made, can we make them in our map editors? I'm pretty sure we can, right?

Okay, just get with it. The answer is no. To start off, what you're suggesting is that for nine years, top modding and mapping heads have been blatantly ignoring such a simple fact, and that you have somehow discovered the answer to it. Wrong.
Mission 8? I checked both Brood Wars' and the Original's, but will assume you mean the original since there's no mention of DuGalle in Brood War's 08 (there is of mengsk, so I'll assume you got them confused). There is no trigger the spawns him, and from what I saw, he was nowhere on the map. The only triggers that pertained to him were transmission triggers that displayed his portrait, I even playtested this to confirm it, and his unit didn't appear anywhere in the game.
From what I understand, Blizzard even used the same tools to make the maps that they packaged with the game, or at least a modified version of it.

at the end, after you capture the cerebrate, his battlecruiser pops up...

Extract the map, go into unit settings, and see for yourself. All that is is a renamed Norad II.

To further prove the point, here's a screenshot from DatEdit:

The 'Location Triggers' flag pretty much does what its name implies. It allows units to be used in triggers with locations :P As you can see, for Mengsk's entry, it is unchecked. Therefore, he cannot be created at a location via triggers :P

Just create the units at a closed location to a neutral player, then when it's supposed to spawn do give unit trigger then move trigger.
