If you require help with a computer problem please remember:

We need to know what kind of computer you are on (Notebook, Desktop, Mac), what operating system you use (Windows XP and Windows Vista), and what the problem is.

Be as detailed as possible.

Let us know anything else you've tried so we don't send you off in the same direction.

For those wanting advice on what to buy...

The best way for us to help you in that regard is if you give us a budget limit.

more stuff to come later

Just as a small notice to those of you who abuse... I mean utilize our help here in the Tech Annex, I wanted to put forward a couple of suggestions that will further help us out here in the forum.

You'll notice that you can tag your thread when you create it, I would be thrilled if you could include some really basic tags that describe your problem and mention your computer's OS, etc...

For instance if you are having issues with display, on a vista machine, with starcraft, you could tag the thread:

display issues, vista, starcraft

I would also really like it if, at the least, you'd take the time to tag the thread with whatever OS you are using. For instance, if this is a vista issue, or an XP issue, tag the thread appropriately.

Since this is a new feature I'm sure we'll go through an adjustment phase, but really I think it shows promise -- for instance you can do searches for all threads that have "vista" and "starcraft" as tags -- giving us the chance to not have to repeat ourselves.

Also, even if you aren't the thread creator, please feel free to add to, or edit the tags associated with the thread (For instance if someone is asking about a new computer, and the thread rambles off and starts talking about video card performance, and SLI and stuff).
