You can easily create 3d art with specs much lower than that.

There are a lot of 3d programs, but easily the best free one is Blender 3d (http://www.blender.org/).

Good luck with your creative activities, and welcome to WarBoards!

Yeah, most of the stuff I've done I did without even a graphics card, you'll be fine, unless you want to make some nuclear holocaust at the same time as a flamethrower attack and a flood or something. Then your computer will die, but so would anyone else's. :D

Blender is the best free program I suppose, as in most advanced and capable, but if you're just starting out it might be a bit confusing, I'd recommend searching for some free modelers if you're just starting out.

Personally I use Animation: Master, but I wouldn't recommend it. ;)

Anim8or (http://www.anim8or.com/) is a great program for people just getting started in 3d. While you can jump directly into blender it might be a bit confusing if you're just starting out. (Power is nice but power is also complicated.) Most importantly: It's going to take time. You're probably not going to jump right in and start creating "oohs and ahhs" type of work at your first try.

Give it time, Duke, give it time. There are also some great tutorials on the Blender site, so delve in as you please.

thanks for helping me!!

I've got some experience in UnrealEd 2.0 (a map editor for Unreal Tournament) but art is another thing...

I've used 3D Canvas but that program confuses me.

Again, Thanks :D

That's a step in the right direction. You can use UnrealEd to put your new models in your maps and such. Now that you know how to publish and use your creations, you're on the right path and you'll save time later. Good luck!

Yeah but... i don't know much about UnrealEd
I can create and build any figure, set water, and the background :smirk:.
But create a skin, make doors, ladders :(... I need a tutorial in Spanish!!!. ( i cannot find it, )
Much patience i don't have...

Well... i've used the 3D Blended, without looking the tutorial (just curiosity) and... yes, it have a "bit confusing".

And the anim8r, i can't open because appears an error about the OpenGL. (and... another program? xD)

(Again... sorry for my english, xD)

hola hermano,

PS: sorry for my spanish, nineteen years past my last lessons hehe:D

Since you're not going to animate , use 3ds max, better for designing, i have maya .3dsmax, foundry nuke, and lots skins.

Yo quiero aprender 3D porque quiero hacer arte, y nada mas...

Si, pero justamente los españoles no tienen un tutorial sobre UnrealEd aunque sin embargo puedo conseguir otros tutoriales (no lo sabia :D)

P.D.: qualidad!? no sera: "Calidad"?
tutorials? o es: "Tutoriales"?
Designer = Diseñador
Te digo esto y mas en un "pm" (lo decimos también los argentinos)
Por un mundo mejor donde cualquiera pueda hablar como se debe :D...

Guys, I hate to say it, but keep it English. This is a primarily English-speaking forum, so do your best to speak English. (And we'll do our best to understand it.)

Qué? No se puede comprender español? Cuál es el asunto con usted? Si no puede entender lenguaje común, entonces no tienen cabida en Internet. :P

No but seriously, he's right. Keep to English please. :)

claro, U-238.

if you live in the US, i thought that you just learned spanish walking in the streets (some states have spanish road-signs, don't they?). Isn't it now strongly advised to take spanish as a second language ? Me its my 4th :D

... and the spanish have terrific 3d people (surprisingly), Che.

Making 3D graphics ain't so hard nor confusing once you have sufficient experience with it. I personally think that patience will be your best ally if you plan to tackle with 3D art.

Your system specs are really quite nicefor 3d rendering. Last year, I made some pretty decent 3d renders and animations with just 512mb of RAM.

For programs, it kinda depends on how much money you're willing to spend and what you're using them for (eg. architectural or engineering designs, 3d films, low-poly game models, etc), although there are some good 3d programs that are free and good with most types of applications, like Blender or Art of Illusion. I use 3ds Max, a big-shot program used by companies like Blizzard. Other programs I know of are:

Maya
ZBrush (organic modelling)
Mudbox (organic modelling)
Animation: Master
Lightwave 3D
AutoCAD (architectural or engineering)
Valve Hammer Editor (for making Half-Life maps) lol :D It's also the first 3d program I've used :)

:o, awesome... I will test the Lightwave 3D first.

Well, Blender 3D:
I've used the video tutorial, it's great! It's easy and light!
