This should be moved to the maps and mods depot.

Anyway, to answer your question, the mod you downloaded should have a icon shaped like a gear, right? If so, close starcaft completely, then double-click on the gear. Easy. Starcaft will be modded until you exit.

SC-BW mods are rare to work on Mac's since the OS works under completely different file types and thus the *.exe's that constitute a SEMPQ (aka self-extracted MPQ) mod don't run under it. Although if you have dual system that has a Windows switch to it and install SC-BW in it. From that point onwards I trust that you know what to do with the game modifications that you got. ;)

Moved the thread, btw. :)

OR, aS lOng aS iT's nOt a FIregRaft mOd, wHat yOu cOuld jUst dO iS:

Take the "modname.mpq" and rename it so that it no longer has the ".mpq" (remove the file extension.)

Go to your Starcraft directory. There should be something called "Starcraft Mac Patch (Carbon)", the one with the funny little icon.

Rename your "modname" file to "Starcraft Mac Patch (Carbon)"

Then move the one that's already in your Starcraft directory somewhere safe, where it won't be overwritten or deleted.

Move your new "Starcraft Mac Patch (Carbon)", the one that you just downloaded and renamed, into the Starcraft
directory and start up it up.

THat sHoulD work for the most part. And please refrain from doing anything stupid, like overwriting your old "Starcraft Mac Patch (Carbon)", unless you enjoy re-installing. If you want to get rid of the mod, just switch the two files.

I think there was an MPQDraft for the Mac as well, but I don't know if it's true or if it was ever finished.

this did not work all it said was that there was a problem and if it persists i would have 2 uninstall starcraft. this may be because the fileis .exe not a .mpq

.exe takes the place of the mpq, it's just a self executing mpq. that would probably have some effect on it though. sorry v-v

As I said his best and probably easiest way to play/test those mods is going through that dual OS thing and swapping to Windows as I stated before. *Wink, hint*

Providing that he has a system even capable of dual-boot, and if he does, an installation of Windows.

I've gotten mods to run on Mac before, it isn't that big a deal. I got rid of mine a while back, though, and never documented how I properly got mods to run on it.

Heck, sue me for assuming that the later Mac's sold all have that dual boot capability. :P Apart that, from what I knew there rare were the modifying tools that work in its native OS and pretty much the same goes for the mods that are mostly made with those tools.

I never said that, although many people and schools still buy the uber-powerful G5 line. But I'm saying that not everyone has a brand new Intel Mac ;)

I myself was stuck with a 2001 G4 line Mac for like a year, up until a few months ago.

See, what'd I tell you? :P

I'll try to dig around for my old Mac and find out how I got mods to work for you, josh, but I can't guarantee it anytime soon because I gave my Mac to a friend a while ago.

Ok here's what you do:

Get mpq2k mac.

Make a copy of your "Starcraft Patch (Carbon)"

Open mpq2k and type "o" and choose the mod

Type: e * /fp /r

and make a new folder and extract to there

then: c

Then: o and choose the Starcraft Data (carbon) copy

Type: a * /r

and choose the folder you extracted to earlier.

Then s

then q and quite mpq2k

Now rename you Starcraft Data (Carbon) Copy to starcraft Data (Carbon) but make sure to keep the original. And start starcraft.

This kind of stuff is my next project.
