Hey guys,
I have a video camera that I want to start using.
What programs do you think I should get so that I can do video editing on my PC? Also where might I download such programs for free?

Kthx

I'm not aware of any freeware video editors, but usually the commercial programs that are one or two versions old are pretty cheap. Pinnacle Studio 10 costs as little as $35 at some e-tailers, though it's reviews have been somewhat varied. Ulead (now Corel) VideoStudio is another entry-level video editing program with a better reputation, but I haven't been able to find any of the back versions (10 and lower) available anywhere.

The only advanced free editor I know of is Cinelerra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinelerra), but it's only for Mac and Linux. There's always Windows Movie Maker, of course...

WMM is pretty good, way simple mind you, but it's still decent.

Search on SF.net for stuff.

get a demo version of adobe premiere. Why settle for semi-pro programs and not see what's the real deal about ? Of course, ahem, the CS3 package is slighlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy pricey... The good thing with premiere is that it is quite straightforward to get your videos in the computer via direct link.

my woman films all the time and uses premiere to make videos and artistic montages with music. She connects the camera to the PC with a firewire connection and premiere automatically spots it. Neet and sweet.

I myself do some montage with my 3d with a lots of effects and sound effects on adobe After effects. It suited me fine for small 20 secs videos to 35 minutes of pure 3d DVD-video. But it is more complicated than premiere.

I use u-lead products just for dvd creation and composition.

Soundforge is pretty good for sound too.

there.

If you've never worked with video editing programs before, I would recommend staying away from Premiere and Final Cut since those programs, while very powerful, are very advanced and difficult to learn at first. If you're REALLY new to the world of video, start of with Windows Movie Maker since it's free and chances are you already have it on your computer. Do keep in mind that it's a HORRIBLE editing program once you get past the beginner level, but it's an easy way to learn the basics of video editing.

I have worked with video editing quite a bit, but it was on a mac, and I do not own a mac.

Thanks for the help guys, I think once I go buy a wire to connect my camera to my comp that I will try the Adobe one first.

firewire, ask for firewire. (btw, you almost surely already have a firewire cable somewhere, they give them away in many hardware packages or cameras).

I tried USB transfer before, and it's pathetic. My grandma could spell the images faster.

I know what a firewire is.
<_<
>_>

And if we got one with our camera, it is lost.
