Who in their life has had balls enough to play this game?
FEAR is so F***ing scary. I hate scary shit due to weak stomach and low tolerance. But I want to get FEAR anyway because it also looks like a badass shooter.
Who's played FEAR?

I have for a couple of hours, at my friend's place. So I can't tell you what it's like to place on your own. It gave me a good fright at some points, though.
Get it! It's awesome.
I've heard that a certain level. The Cradle, in Thief: Deadly Shadows is the scariest thing ever.

It is fun, but I am quite difficult to frighten in terms of animated or unreal fear. However in real life I am quite easily startled.

I think, as a prelude to what you're about to embark upon, you're probably looking for this. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock_2)
Unfortunately, I can't find an XP Patch for it, so you may be out of luck in the way of playing it. Back in the day though, it was apparently pretty scary, rivaling or surpassing many "horror" shooters such as Half-Life.

Its quite scary.
Spoilers below.
Happily running along through the first level, when suddenly *ZoMGWTFBBQ!!!!!!!111!!!!1!!1!oneoneone the face of a canbilised dude jumps of screen to greet you with a scary looking voice over. And then later in the level, your C.O says. "Fettel is near. Watch out." He happens to be waiting around the corner for you. With a plank of wood that he smackis in your face
Yeah I'd say its pretty scary

Super fun game. Not very scary. Ill admit, at times things made me jump, but nothing scared me shitless.
One thing that some people may not like is the repetitive combat, for its pretty much always the same enimies. (sure, you may fight a mech here and there, or a heavy trooper, but thats about it.)
If you liked the first one, I HIGHLY recomend its expansion, F.E.A.R. Extraction Point. EP was actually a bit scary at parts, (It gets freaky at the end :P) and it completed the story. It also adds a new enemy...

Oh, and games will only scare me if there is "popping-out scary faces with screams" kinda thing.

I really wanna play this game now, I was asking some of my friends about it and they said it was creepy. He said soemthing about random "images" that pop up in the dark areas and you only get a "half-o-second glimpse" of a freaky thing.
lol, time to test my wits, might get it this weekend
Nothing makes me feel better than getting scared shitless :)

If you guys think FEAR is scary, then you obviously haven't played AVP2. I haven't beaten it before, and I've had it for around 10 years.
I just can't bring myself to play it for long enough periods of time to beat it all the way :S

I saw that scene online.
Now Imagine if you were the guy in there. You'd need like 6 years of therepary afterwards.
Also, wide open areas in FEAR. BAD! Small corriders. ALSO BAD! ELEVATORS! WORSE!
Nowhere in that game is safe. Feels like your actually watching a scary movie. ANd living it at one time.

Fear was creepy in the beginning. After it was established that "metal scraping sound + weird screen effect = little girl incoming", the entire thing lost its scary to me. Faces popping out or random bloodied bodies don't scare me and the usual shock horror is useless. The only thing that might have kept me scared was that fucking little girl, but it didn't because they ruined the effect.
After I got used to it, the most Fear did was disorient me. Which honestly scares me more than blood or bodies.
I played AVP2 and loved every minute of it. In fact I stayed up two nights in a row so I could finish playing through all three campaigns.
Did it scare me? Not really. Some parts in the Marine campaign where it's like HOLY SHIT ITS AN ALIEN QUICK SHOOT HIM IN THE HEAD! CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK HOLY SHIT OUTTA AMMO! were freaky.
F.E.A.R., on the other hand, scares me because I really fucking hate little girl ghosts. It's a long story involving a contraceptive and a time machine, but I just really hate them. Call me a coward.
The difference between a good scary game and a great scary game, however, is the choppiness. F.E.A.R. is horror, then some enemies, then horror, then some enemies.
If you want to piss yourself and wake up kicking and screaming at night because of nightmares...
Play Condemned: Criminal Origins.

I've seen some in-game footage of this one, it looks pretty good. I've seen scarier though, but I'm not really scared of virtual stuff. :smirk:, But I never played it. Plan to in the future though.

The assassins sound like they'll do the trick. :P
I'm a bit concerned that the game is turning into a franchise now, the best way to kill a horror story is to explain too much too early; although the exact opposite is also true.

Getting FEAR this week. Getting my balls ready cause I know I'm going to get scared, Regardless of what anyone says.
As for AVP2, I heard about from a friend but never saw anything for it. As for Condemned, also heard about it, but never saw anything for it.

F.E.A.R. was one of the best fps horror games I have ever played. I mostly play a game for the story and this had a very good one. (I don't recommend the expansion though it was quite flat) But the best part was clearly the great graphical experience. It's easily the most awesome fps experience ever put on the screen. Bullets tear huge parts out of the walls, universal gravity has all the stuff flying around when they are hit, bullets bounce off of metal surfaces spewing large sparks all around, dustclouds form from the blown up concrete etc. You play this game and you will find even todays fps visuals simply inadequate.

Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock and many many more have nicer graphics than FEAR. It's a good game nonetheless.

Yes, but BioShock sucked. Besides, when did graphics decide how good a game was? F.E.A.R. was simple fun for me, kind of like Portal was. I didn't particularly care for the storyline and it didn't frighten me beyond the first few appearances of the little girl, but what kept me playing F.E.A.R. was the incredibly fun firefights. The AI reacted to you, not the other way around, and this meant that virtually no fight was the same. Plus the effects from the shooting (the dust, debris flying about, etc.) added to the fun of the game. This was particularly apparent on the highest difficulty.
It was awesome.

You think FEAR is scary.. play FEAR Extraction point that shit is messed up i mean

Then lights turn off, ghosts are gone. He says "Great.." and he flys up to ceiling. BAM he is like messed up half dead bleeding he gets thrown down magically then dragged into a room and before the door closes he says find JEN and door closes and blood splaters door and window and yells and then a MONSTEROUS ultralisk like sound happens and then you just get up and leave.. I swear i lost 5 pints of liquid that day.

FEAR (series?), Resident Evil (series), or the Silent Hill (series)?

Yes, that's what I said. Bioshock etc etc have beter graphics, but it's a good game nonetheless. I don't really see your point. I was just disagreeing with whatsit who was praising the graphics up to the high heavens.
Only thing I don't like is the toughness of the enemies. After playing Rainbow Six and COD for a while, it gets really annoying when the enemies just won't die. :P AI is amazing though.

Wherever you read that was false. Alma is a Latin word meaning "nourishing" that also means "soul" in Spanish and Portuguese, the Hungarian word for apple, and the Arabic word for learned.
It's also a name in Hebrew. I think that's the only significance of it, unless they were shooting for some sort of irony.

I heard that project origin will be played by a different character, not the point man of F.E.A.R. and Extraction point. I think that sucks if it's true, but I'll buy it nonetheless and hope it's gona be fun and frightening like it's predecessor.

See Zero Punctuation's (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2675-Zero-Punctuation-F-E-A-R-Perseus-Mandate) review of Perseus Mandate, might give you an idea of what the other expansion packs are like.

I made a F.E.A.R map on Time Splitters: Future Perfect. TS: FP has a map maker function and I tried to replicate F.E.A.R. Obviously didn't work out so well. I mean, a friend of mine who's played FEAR thinks it's great, but not all that great.
Oh well. What do you guys think?

Forgive me for assuming that everyone had the ability for even simple inference. I honestly didn't know there were some people in this world who would look at what I typed and seriously think "he didn't mention Russia!" Well, smart ass, I didn't mention Mexico either, but there's never been a yeti sighting in that country. Should we thusly assume that Alma could be a reference to something Mexican, simply because of a stupid technicality in my speech?
Thinking; it's a good thing.
I just finished beating F.E.A.R. I only have 2 expansions to go! *is excited*
Play Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube, LOL. Scary. For instance: You're in your dead uncles mansion by yourself, in a hidden room in the basement and you hear footsteps on the ceiling, coming from upstairs. The thing is, you are alone in the house.

a really good part in Extraction Point is where you are in that warehouse with the black dude and the lights start turning on and off and on and off and you start seeing...
well, you just need to play it that's all im saying.
hmm
I've never actually played the singleplayer (because I'm cheap and DLed FEAR Combat ;) ) but the multiplayer is great, and I can see how if you get scared by random things appearing from around corners (stupid people with that freakin' shotgun >_< ) than you might get jumped a bit.
Can't use the shotgun myself. Pistols or SMG, that's where it's at.

Who's played FEAR?
I didn't play FEAR, though I did play FEAR: Perseus Mandate (expansion pack, that is ;)). And it was hard, very hard, BUT UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL !!! It was kind of DOOM 3, but with even better graphics and horror stuff... Though I'm only 11 years old, I never ran away from the computer, only because of some scary scene, nor did I scream or something similar...
Oh, and what I liked most, was the Bullet-Time Slow Motion which let me PWN most of the enemies... I loved it, and the blood of course... (My motto: a FPS without blood, is a piece of s**t) ... It was cool to enter Slow Mo, get near an enemy, and give him a shotgun blast from 10 cm away... Totally a cool FPS !
