Sure you've seen two big flat-panels linked together side by side on gaming rigs before. But this bad boy ties them into one sveltely-curved unit. The Alienware Curved is a single 2880x900 (2x WXGA+ resolution), powered by DLP projection (so it's not that svelte, from behind anyway). But it works with any game that already supports dual-head WXGA+ setups and should hit gaming dens near you in the second half of '08. —John Mahoney

hahaha i like the "it is powered by a DLP projector"...
as in "the new fantastic alienware holoprojector with real 3d is coming to your gaming rooms, powered by a nuclear fusion generator linked to the CERN Particle accelerator and managed by 24 graphics cards cooled in a 500 ton liquid nitrogen tank.".
... but is still works with your tetris !

Imagine a semi-circular desk with three or four of these things lined up around the perimeter. Add a swivel chair and you're set.

That looks VERY hard to play games on, because you have to move your neck or have great side (Don't know how to spell that P word.) vision to see if someone is to your far left of far right.

Not at all, it actually expands the amount of pixels shown, so you're seeing more than the other people.

I think what he means is for instance, in this example, you can't really see the health (?) bars and stuff on the right at the same time as the minimap, you would have to actually physically look in a different place. Which I wouldn't mind really, I think it'd be a more immersive experiance to have to actually look to see peripherally.

That's the point of the curvature though - it offers an advantage over the standard double-monitor display which is flat.

Looks nice. Although that wouldn't exactly work with my laptop :). I think people should just spend more time on 3d monitors inside goggles though, that would be very interesting.

looks like we are going to end up like the cows watching too many trains passing-by: with a seriously strained neck !
i sometimes play with a projector of mine on the living room wall, about 4m wide (wish you could do that at your place, eh? try it once!). It takes a while for the peripheral vision to get used to receiving that much information, and it can make you dizzy. 1st person shooters on very large screens can certainly get some people nauseous...
I heard a lot about real 3d displays. I read about 2 techniques that will be sold, alas, in a minimum of 5-7 years. They will be pricey too. One involves a rotating sphere if i can remember... (Scientific American article, a few months old). Sometimes a "fantastic" "flabergasting" 3d display pops up in some popular mechanics article, just to disappear as suspiciously as it came... True, 3d gaming would be a revolution for most of the games. But we still have a long way to wait, i think.
Imagine a 3d epilepsy !
One thing I want to know is: Where the hell are you going to find a wallpaper large enough to cover your desktop? (at any decent resolution)
Otherwise it looks sweet. I'd definitely take one of those.
Capitalism for best ways found to spend your money. :P Although it might look nice :) and probably is really enticing to acquire one its my opinion that one of those won't be for the laymen's wallet.

They need to make little HUD's you can wear that show your health bars, etc. all that information. And then also you can build the perfect gaming room, perfectly dark, shape of a circle, with white projector screen walls, and projectors on all sides. So you can spin your chair around and get a 360 view of whatever game you are playing, and plus you have the HUD info in your eye.
