I just recently got a new hard drive- A Western Digital 160GB ATA100 Internal Hard Drive. Alright, woot a new hard drive right? I put it in an old computer that had no hard drive, and obviously did not have an OS installed. I poped it in and booted from CD/DVD Drive with the Windows XP disk in. But I shortly found out (Before the first windows loading screen.) that im supposed to boot from the Western Digital CD, since I have no OS installed. I restarted my computer and took out the Windows disk and put in the WD CD. Great, I followed the instructions and made it to where the hard drive was only 137GB so I woulden't loose data, blah blah all the other stuff. (I could make it all 160GB after I installed SP2.)
Ok, then I restarted my computer AGAIN and put the Windows disk in. After Windows loaded all its.... stuff it said "Starting Windows" woo! But then oh no; The blue screen of death. The blue screen of death says "Drive_IRLQ_Not_Less_Or_Equal"
Any help here guys?
The computer I put the Hard Drive in is 2 or 3 years old, and the WD Hard Drive is brand new, does that have something to do with it?
don't use the wd disk.
Use windows to format the disk.
The only reason to use the disk is if your motherboard can't handle the 160gb, if thats the case, then you might have to use the disk.
But I've had the worst luck with the WD disks, and problems always seemed to clear up once I skipped the disk and just used Windows XP Setup to format the disk.
(or fdisk or whatever)

Well since you seemed to have already used the wd disc and are getting problems now I would say reformat it.I know that seems wierd but,I think that should fix it due to what you have said. After you do what the above person has said.Or if you want to really be sure its not the hard drive you can use a 3rd party format disc and use that to see.
Or install linux and see if linux notices anything wrong.
One of those will surely point you in the right way.
Why the hell would using Linux help him with Windows?

Neo's right, don't use the WD disk. Just go use the XP CD. I have (probably) the same harddrive and straight off the XP disc worked great.

It can help you discern hardware problems from software problems.
Well yes, I'm sure. But telling someone who's a window user to jump on linux isn't the grandest idea.

Thanks a bunches, all of you that replied. But I just hooked up the hard drive to my dads computer and ran the hard drives disk (After I had formatted it again.) then Windows XP and it all worked fine. Still though, its nice to have people I can fall back on if my computer starts messing up.
:p
Yes, I generally like to, when I can, format a new drive WITH windows. I've had rather aggravating issues with the western digital disk tools.
