I have a gif thats 200+ kb and I was really hoping that you guys can squeez in a little bit more than just a 40.0 kb size limit? like maybe.. 300Kb for avatar and Siggy?

A 200 kb image is 500% increase in the allowable size. Consider that your images are not the only ones that will be downloaded when someone opens a thread. If everyone could load a 300 kb image, then a single thread with 10 post per page, and ten different users, could present over 2 Mb of sigs/avys to download.

Even on most cable and DSL connections, you'll notice a hit like that.

AJ, again in a class of his own.

Still though, isn't it possible to increase the file size by even 10 K? That doesn't seem to be such a huge size increase, does it?

No.

There are ways to compress, or save the image in a different format (for instance my sig as a jpg was about 90kb or so, as a png it's like 28kb)

animated stuff is also kind of annoying sometimes.

for now, i feel the gif size limit in signatures is more than appropriate.
you guys need a limit somewhere, so it is where it is.
