View Full Version : A little note about YouTube threads...

This is just a personal appeal, but lets try raising the quality of the threads in this forum. This is a place to discuss movies, books, TV shows, and other entertainment media.
There have been a lot of YouTube threads lately that are pretty mediocre or mildly funny. We all know about YouTube. If we feel like watching a funny video, we know how to search for them.
I request all members to post videos that are worthwhile -- something that's different or something that you feel strongly about that you can discuss. Don't just post an interesting video and leave it at that.
Does anyone else agree with me?

Agreed. Just to clarify your statements though; this is a loosely-regulated IR for entertainment?

I wouldn't compare it to an IR...
All forums have topics that you should stick to. The YouTube threads are fine, but many of them aren't that great. All I'm saying is that we should only post YouTube vids that are really good here, not your everyday junk.

Good point. I definitely agree, and the recent avalanche of youtube postings has made me shy away from these forums. I guess if the problem really gets out of hand, we could just make a thread for all "funny" youtube videos to go in.

I agree because it gets really annoying. There's nothing ever new besides stupid videos.

I disagree. This forum doesn't see enough activity and the youtubes are pretty good sometimes. I would say that all dancing anime youtubes should be destroyed though.

Finally, the mods are taking action. :)

Disagreed. Threads about YouTube videos (which are increasing lately, and aside from the game room) drag the traffic to WarBoards. Other than hidden media crawlers, NetMetrics gives a higher rank to those with higher traffic like what's happening here. NetMetrics just showed that the last few months, WB increased a whopping 65% of traffic.
Else, wouldn't it be proper to make a subforum as video or media repository, and take the Entertainment Compendium as a discussion board for entertainment alone?

How can we be sure the increase in inane youtube threads was responsible for this increase?

i think there should be a decrease in youtube threads but not completely obliterated. I actually find some of these videos humorous. But if mods think that this is the best way to improve the quality of warboards than i will go with them .

I agree 1000%.
i am sick of see thread named "WICKED FUNNY STUFF!!!!!" only to find that it isn't funny at all.
Give me something truely funny.
And are the mods doing a blitz on us all of a sudden?

IrishDutchMan brings up a good point, how are you arriving at the conclusion that EC is responsible for this? That seems like you're pulling the number out of thin air without any supporting. If you can provide something substantial, then what you proposed may be a great solution.
And no, we are not doing a blitz. We're just trying to make the posts around here better :)

The tastes of people on these boards are so different it's rare to find a new movie or album that everyone's seen/heard, so it's even harder to try to discuss it. Youtube videos are better because you can post them, so as everyone can watch it without difficulty, and then discuss it.
Except i'm not entirely sure if discussing a movie is "entertainment", and "compendium" slapped alongside sort of implies just a whole bunch of videos... eh I dunno.

Yeah... correct. Anyways, support the people's mod.
Youtube videos are better because you can post them, so as everyone can watch it without difficulty, and then discuss it.
The problem lies wherein people post a video in such a way as to post the video alone, which in itself does not promote any actual real discussion of the video past whether it is good or bad.
IMO, to fix this problem 100%, we only need to ban two people, galiant and zerg_eater.
Or at least make them fix their way.
but meh. maybe they have already.
Not that I care much

My dear Ahzz, banning is not the answer.
We must take this matter seriously but with diligence, make it so that all users may share these forums in peace and harmony.

If Gal and Z_E were banned, it would fix everything. What babout just banning them from this sub-forum? I've been banned from IR for about a year.

Ya know, instead of making a statement that makes us feel like morons, why not just report the posts and let us deal with them? We aren't mind readers, we don't know everything and we can't scan every post or thread. What we do is deal with what we can when we see it, but the majority of our action comes from reported posts.
So next time something gets out of hand, just don't sit there and when we get around to it on our own time say some stupid bullshit like "finally the mods care!" and actually do something about it by trying to discourage the activity and report it.

This is a forum, not a chat room. When you make a thread here, the intention is to discuss the topic at hand and bringing no discussion in your opening post does not promote discussion. If you just post the video, it'll turn into youtube comments all over again (and youtube comments suck).
My dear Ahzz, banning is not the answer.
ah yes I agree, however I typed it in a hurry so instead of what I said, read it as "Ban their rights to post videos". For some time anyway.

Yes, yes it is.
Personally I've got nothing against YouTube threads, as long as there is something interesting to see in the video. Something funny, something amazing or just something worth seeing.
What about just banning them from this sub-forum?
Do you really want stupid videos all over the ML?

Wow, kongurous. I just fully realized now that you're a mod. Awesome, but I'm truly sorry about the not-reporting thing. I only get some minutes in and out of Warboards. Life is tough in this high school when people nag at you every now and then. My life gets out of hand sometimes too. I know it sounds more like an alibi, it is, but it's an honest one.
Apologies,
Leosam.
