If you're going resto: hoard MP5 in gems and get as much of the mail healing gear as you can. You'll never go oom and chain heal is so OP you'll probably save a raid.
If you're going elemental: get ready to not see much spell damage and to be wearing cloth until you get access to S2/S3 gear and/or raid gear.
If you're going enhance: don't.

I hope this is just a joke, but even then, I'm going to lecture you on why that's wrong:
Resto shammies are some of the best healers possible. Load your shammy up with a lot of +heals and some MP5 and you have a mana machine that can chain people to full. Fight's like Void Reaver, you put a good shammy in range of melee and they can soak his pounds because that shammy is spamming chain heal and keeping melee up through 2k per second incoming damage.
Totems: While you lose the ability for rogues to use poisons, you put a shammy in a group within your raid with a bunch of melee dps and that is going to see a HUGE increase in total dps. Especially in fights where melee doesn't have much moving around to do, but is rather on a stationary target.
If there's not enough melee to warrant it, or you have a lot of shammys in the raid, you can throw down grace of air with some bear druids and hunters and see huge returns on that. Or Wrath of Air for caster DPS. Either of those three = significant DPS upgrades.
Enhancement shammies, if well geared and played well, are fairly decent for arenas. It's hard to get a good group comp that includes an enh. shammy, but if you find it those shammies can insta-gib someone.
Elemental shammies aren't bad raid dps, are pretty good in arena, and give many of the same benefits in both atmospheres as the resto shammy.
Worthless? Only if you're ignoring every aspect of them or are fighting a terrible enh. shammy who doens't know how to gear himself.

Worthless?
Yes.Or just the ppl that are using them ARE UBER NOOBS.
3 shamans main healers with 1 paladin as a optional and 1 main tank and some rogues as support and me as secondary tank. The only thing the 3 shamans HAD to do is to heal but WTF have they done NOTHING the main tank died I died and all of us died, one elite killed us all.
Master noobery or just worthless shamanism?

only 3 healers, none of which had either a shield or a heal over time, and one off-healer for black temple?
I'd say your raid makeup was screwed, but that's just me.

i havent even been able to run BT and i dunno many on my server that has either if any has..But then again you dont play on a real server, just a pirated one..
Maybe its your fault you died because your raid gear is lacking? your raid group seems weird too, all rogues for dps and no locks or mages? seems pretty dumb.

The main tank had both of illidans blades and half of tier 6.The shamans just stood back and kinda healed the tank. The tank had 13000 hp.
I'm going to assume he was on fury spec. Shouldn't the main tank be Protection?

Er, I didn't notice this. Yeah, with a three-shaman group for healing, you *need* ranged DPS if you even want a chance to succeed, not melee DPS. It's silly for you to expect shamans to keep the rogues alive through a raid boss's AOE attacks.

I highly doubt he's earned his way into BT, or that he's earned any of the gear he's in.
Illidan on that server is probably equvalent to Attumen, if anything.

Sweet, a tank without shield. Strikes me as a bad idea.

Bosses in pirate servers aren't scripted. they don't do any special attacks or spells, only their regular 'attack'. :P

so basically its like playing warcraft 3 vs someone that uses his toes to micro rather than his fingers.
As much interesting it might be to hipotethically speak about derived illegal junk lets keep that for PM's, shall we? ;p
