So I've been trying to rip a DVD so I can play it on my ipod. I've run into a few problems. I've been using this program called ImTOO DVD Ripper.

First I tried ripping it into mp4 format because that's what the ipod plays. When I did that it either would play for a couple seconds then close itself, say something about a buffer overrun. Then when I tried to put it on my ipod the video would be very choppy or just wouldnt work at all.

Next I tried WMV format. Apparently Itunes will convert WMV's into the correct format to go on my ipod. I ripped it to a WMV and it worked fine in windows media player but it wouldn't add itself to my library on itunes.

Next I tried .mov which is supposed to work on the ipod. That didn't work either. It was added to the library and could play in there but couldnt go on the ipod.

Lastly I've tried using a program to convert the WMV into an mp4 and that doesn't work on the ipod.

I've almost given up on this and I need some help please and a thank you.

Try Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/). Very easy to use and should be able to encode directly to an iPod compatible format.

Handbrake isn't working for me. Whenever I encode the video I see "corrupt video" flash in DOS then it closes. It says "encoding finished" at the bottom and theres no file in the place where it shouldve ripped to except this "stack_dump" thing. Am I missing something? It looks pretty straight forward to use.

It's ripping now so I'll let you know how it goes when it's finished.

I ripped it and the video is just a bunch of green lines and random shit and the audio keeps cracking with the odd bit of noise from the actual dvd.

What exactly are you trying to rip? Because you may have to use DVD Decryptor first, and then actually encode it for the iPod.

or not, I don't have an ipod ><

I managed to rip about half the stuff from the dvd and it looks and sounds great. The other half of the files don't play at all. When I'm given the option to rip certain titles and chapters pretty much every title is shown twice on the list. I'm thinking of ripping the entire dvd and one of the versions is bound to work. :D

What does a dvd decrypter do, anyway.

decrypts movie/game/other dvds (it rips out the copy protection and stuff) and turns it into a normal disc image file.

Oh. I might try that. Any programs you know of that do that?

I got the ripping to work, except it doesn't rip about 6 videos, and they're just random videos.
