View Full Version : Consider this
Duddits

Ok, yes, I ought to be fucking typing this on myspace, or some other fucking blog, but hear me out here... Consider this, if you will.
I don't even know what to think of that I've posted some of my most deeply personal events of my life on this webpage.
I remember how that I've came upon this webpage. The only reason that I visit here is because of BlizzForums. Setting all reaons aside of why I should hate that aforementioned webpage, I don't remember why (or how) I first came upon it. I can image that it was because I bought Starcraft, but I'm not completely sure.
Either way. Is it not a little crazy that people (yes, I mean everyone who is reading this) can form such a tight bond with each other? I've beem visiting this website ever since it came out... Febuary of 2004. As inactive as I may be (Kong amazes me that he keeps coming back... at one point, I was number one in posts), I still keep coming back. I don't know why...
I love website. I love the community, as out of date as I may be with is new members. Still, I always comes back to it (normally in an inebriated state... but still I do).
Why do you all keep coming back? Why? Why? Why fucking why? I don't have a clue why I do, yet I still manage to sneak back for a guest appearence every once in awhile...
Why is WB and BF such a big part of my life? My career might revolve around writing, a skill that I've both honed and come to love in the wrighting of Pie Wars, if anyone remembers that. Is this a sad thing? Or is this how gen X... Generation 85-95 will grow up?
I just want to thank everyone, and the fucking thing is: I don't know what for.

'Cause this is the only place that I know of on the internet, where everyone is cool. We're a funny, intelligent and attentive bunch of nerds (don't denie it :P) with something in common. That's a recipe for entertainment.
All the other forums (fora?) I've visited pale in comparison.

It's fora, not forums.
And I come here because well, uh. I feel like it. I feel like reading other people's responses and comments and ideas.
I don't know either.

i come here to show everyone iam better than them...lol no iam jk. I think people comes back to these forums because its a form of social interaction. Its kinda like a class, except in this class, you get say or show w/e you want(to a certain degree lol). WB also has a group of very intelligent and stable people who are up to discuss any type of topic. I come back to WB everyday to discuss with these people things that i normally couldn't discuss with my friends. I also come to hone my writing skills and i think ive improved a lot from just writing and replying on forums. Its also a place where i can share and showoff my art in the creative concept section, making sigs for myself or other people. + in forums its much easier to be yourself because you cant get judged by the way you look(:smirk:iam smexy) or what you have done. Its all about what kind of topics and info you bring to the table.

I keep coming back because most of the semi-regulars are decent, at least as far as people on the internet go. Also, I sometimes want to play Diplomacy with the old fogeys, whenever some of them are around. That's probably the main reason I've stayed around as long as I have, and why I come back whenever I disappear for a time.
Plus, it's fun to discuss things, even if with random people you met online. Almost everyone wants someone to listen to them. Maybe the partial anonymity, coupled with the hope that someone will read our words more easily than they would hear if we spoke, provides some intangible draw to message boards and similar forums.

Indeed. I second Modred's posting, except the Diplomacy stuff. I've never really understood Diplomacy.

I come here to help my degenerative chronic illness, "boredom."
And there are some cool people here that amuse me occasionally. Come back more often, Duddits. ;)
P.S. I don't know what my above post said, but probably something to the effect of what I just typed, but in an unintelligible manner.
Dear Duddits,
An interesting introspection. I'm relatively new; I'm a fan fiction moderator @ StarCraft.Org (one of the Warboard sites), so thus I came to Warboards about an SCO-related issue. I was interested in RPing. So, @ Nov '06, my joining date, I came here for an RP, after it went inactive, I drifted off from WarBoards and just returned for a second of meh RPs. :P
Regards,
X9, StarCraft.Org Fan Fiction Moderator

I don't understand it either Duddits...you ask a great question. I come back because it's entertaining, and while I can say I like some of the members here, I will say I feel zero attachment to anyone here. If you are not one of the top ~10 posters here, I won't even remember one post of yours from the next. Sounds harsh, but I have always been amazed how people can form real emotional attachments to other people here, call it a friendship, whatever. I mean, what kind of lives do you have - or not have, as the case may be - to have your circle of friends be a group of anonymous posters on some obscure internet forum?

You don't admire or respect some posters more than others? Huh, that's odd. I agree though, it's silly to get real emotional attachment to anyone here.

I think the only requirements necessary for friendship are people who are friendly with similar interests, like humor. People on here make me laugh, and post stories that make me feel close to them. I don't have to see their face or hear their voice to be able to sympathize, discuss, and laugh with them. I don't feel at all ridiculous or deprived of life to say that I have good friends whom I have never seen.

No matter how far we may fly from the coop, we always come back home to roost. This was my introduction to the Internet :D I have to come home sometimes.

Eheh, the reason I came to WarBoards was because originally Sons of War was moving here and ITSTORRASQUE4U said that we all needed to get warboards accounts. :P
I've been sticking with Sons of War because they're just an awesome group of people, and through extension I've found that a lot of Warboards is too, you know? I don't know most warboarders nearly as closely as SoW guys but as it was said before, a group of people with similar interests makes for a fun time.
Another factor is somewhat that I figure the more 3D modelling experiance/exposure I have, the better my chances are of making it to blizzard, I mean, it'd be cool to walk into a job interview and say I was masterofhobbiton and have them know who I was. So getting out there on the internet is always good from that standpoint too. :D
i can't leave.
