Yep, I'm a total noob. I just tried out paint.net today, and I don't get layers and crap

I like it, though you might try to make the edges of the central image blend more into the background.
Also, I do not know what software you are using, but adding a solid and clear outline to the words would be cool. perhaps any black glow or something .

That links to some tutorials on the forum, I recommend first doing 3-4 tutorials of completely different things simply because that will get you used to the interface and layout of the program

then look for a tutorial of a picture you like, do it then start over and do the tutorial again, but this time, make some changes with the stuff you learned from other tutorials and mix it up to make it ore your own.

that is fundamentally how I got to where I am today with photoshop.

I also suggest you read up on things like focal points and the colour wheel and how it works. But don't worry about things like colour and focal points until you have a grasp of how to work the program, and an idea of how to accomplish what you want, they are major players in a good picture, but its not much good to know what they are if you don't know how to work the program in which oyu are trying to create them in.

Also, in my opinion you should add a border to the sig.
I'm not entirely sure how you do that in Paint.net though.(Tbh, I use gimp for borders)

Like the others said, if you're still a beginner them it's no problem.

My suggestion would be to match the color scheme of the background witth the color scheme of the zergling pic, in this case it's red/orange/yellow.
