So I've got a lot of tracks, and I'm centralizing them. I start to put all the music I had in iTunes instead of leaving it in folders and the like.
Now iTunes can handle a lot, but I can't get it to import .ogg music :\
So I was wondering if anyone knew a freeware converter for Macintosh that can convert .ogg to .mp3
I tried Audacity but it's bitchin about extra plugins and stuff.

A program which I used for that ;) http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20436/switch-file-format-converter Oh, "ppc". You'll have to run through Rosetta I guess.

Thanks man.
I can still run PPC-Based OS X programs btw :) I don't know if i use Rosetta for that - I just know that if i click on it, it runs, although laggy.
--Damn I can't award you for your find. Well, just know I'm grateful. I can finally import my Ut2004 tracks into iTunes.

Why convert to an inferior format? Try using XiphQT (http://www.xiph.org/quicktime/download.html) plugin for QuickTime. It will allow you to play Ogg Vorbis in iTunes. Because of some mysterious things in iTunes that the XiphQT team can't access through a QuickTime plugin, meta-data like track numbers doesn't appear for Ogg Vorbis files, but I just installed the newest version for OS X (1.8), and track name, length, artist, album, and genre all appear just fine.

But iTunes has better support for a large library. I've definitely crashed VLC before when trying to make a playlist of a few thousand songs. =p

I want it in iTunes because all my other songs are in it as well.
Before, my music archive was a mess. I had .spc files, and a special .spc player, i had .mids that were in folders everywhere, i had some Mp3s in iTunes but most of them floating around in folders, i had .ogg files I couldn't do much with..
You get the idea. I wanted to centralize all my stuff in one application. Mp3 might be a lesser type, but since itunes doesn't accept .ogg i'm not going to swap a few hunderd songs to VLC. Besides, I prefer iTunes over VLC :)
--Oh and btw, it took Switch like 20 minutes to convert all my .oggs, but now I'm listening them.. they sound fine! :) Thanks again.

If you reread my first post in the thread, you can play .ogg in iTunes. Had I not taken time to install it to make sure it worked, that would have been the first response and you could have not only saved 20 minutes, but been free to get other tracks in Ogg Vorbis format. =p

Since you probably use Windows, I doubt I can use it.

New challenge:
A converter that can convert .UMX to .ogg or .mp3
For Mac, ofcourse.
I found a converter, but it converts to .xm or something, so it's still rubbish.
I'm not sure if Cocomodx can convert to mp3, and I don't know how large .wavs are compared to the same lenght of music in .ogg and .mp3
Update: Just found out VLC can run .xm , but can it also convert.
Theres a way to use vlc to convert files... I'm assuming you'll be able to figure this out on your own, but I believe you do this;
Open the file you wish to convert (try a single file first to get it right). Once its in VLC, stop it (if it's playing) then goto File -> Wizard Mode (or whatever the wizard option)
Thensimply select what you want (you want to transcode/stream or whatever) thyen hit next until you get the option "transcode video or transcode audio" (obviously you'll want audio) go through the options until you get what you want.
Check out their wiki here; http://wiki.videolan.org/How_to
Sorry i'm kind of rambling, but I've used this feature maybe once or twice, heh.
I'm pretty sure you can set it to transcode more then one file as well, but I'd just to one file first to figure out what options you like.
