I've had some trouble with bnet when trying to run starcraft on VISTA. well, I click okay, when i first install it, then it says, BNET CANNOT RECOGNIZE YOUR APPLICATION, PLEASE REINSTALL ANDTRY AGAIN. nada, nothign works, help?
EDIT: nvm, now it says "THE CD KEY IS IN USE FOR ANOTHER PRODUCT, PLEASE REINSTALL WITH ANOTHER ONE"
....anyone wanna lend me one :D
Well the first question I'd ask is, is it a legit key and/or has anyone other then you had access to it?

yeah, it's legit, and only my cousin used it, when we played multiplayer.

Then maybe your cousin plays at it at the same time?
I don't know, it's really hard to get that message if you're a legit users. I only get it when I disconnect and reconnect. And even then I barely get it.

You see Zerg_Eater, how the Battle.Net works is like this:
1. When you log in to the BNET server, it checks for your MAC (physical address) and IP address, and CD-KEY and stores them into its database.
2. If it finds that the CD-KEY you are using is already stored in the database but with a different (try to put emphasis on 'different') MAC and IP address, it will reject connection. This way, it will disallow access to the server from pirated or non-legit copies of the game.
Edit: Based on minor researches made by Gamester, game manufacturers seem to have made contracts with Microsoft that allows Vista to check whether you are using legit CD-KEYS for a program or not.
Doubtful.
All Blizzard checks is if the key is currently in use.
It's also doubtful Vista does that.
Gamers are notorious for upgrading and stuff, so to have a cdkey "locked" to a MAC Address seems pretty out there.

You know if either of you were 100% right me and my two buddies who played online against each other on one key wouldn't have worked now would it?

My cousin and I use to as well, but that was like SC1.06, I don't think it worked anymore after 1.07
Or some where back there anyway.
You can dual log on D2 LoD 1.11, sometimes it figures it out and temp bans ya but not often.
I dont think its a vista problem, just email blizz ftw

SC-BW allows (up to 8) spawned copies to be installed for LAN play, so maybe it was one of said cases.

Sorry. What I meant is that Blizz checks for the Battle.net username registered in an IP, and the information about that user (this one is REAL. I know it is.) and if it finds that a different user uses it on another IP address, then it would reject connection.
well, this may be off topic, but, what happens to my LEGIT cd key if i uninstall starcraft from my desktop pc to a new laptop(which i will get soon)?
Will I be able to play in battle.net in the new laptop??
and, do you experience problems with starcraft running in vista?, because the new laptop(that im gonna get) has vista

Well, as long as BNET detects that you are using a legit cd-key, on a username or online identity at which the cd-key is attached to, then it will absolutely approve connection. Though, as said a while ago, it is highly doubtful that you will experience any problems in Vista with a legit copy of SC-BW.
Pytum, there was a time when I had to installed copies of SC-BW in different PC's (both with Windows pre-Vista OS's) and provided I didn't played on B.Net at the same time (which is somewhat difficult to happen, btw) there wasn't much of a problem.
Warning: This cannot be used as an excuse to have the game installed on several PC's, though. For that I advise ya to have spawned copies installed instead (to install those the menu can be accessed from the autoplay screen that appears when you insert the SC CD in the drive).

Proof please?
This is total bullshit, because then this means if someone logged into D2 or SC from my computer, it wouldn't work.
Except *gasp* a friend has been doing this for like 2 or 3 years.
