For the "A" question (and next ones, what follows) you will surely get different answers because everybody have another opinion on it.
IMO SCMDraft is the best and, if I remember good, I downloaded it from SC.org

SCMDraft is the maya of starcraft mapping. (starforge would be the 3ds max. :P)

Yep. All the best mappers on this site use SCMDraft. I got mine on sc.org and it works fine but it's apparantly outdated so you should get yours on U-238's link.

Alright... any other place from where i can get it ???? i am banned on sc.org, if you haven't heard :D :(

... I officially hate Mjolnir :D
After all, nobody responded to C. ... :(
Anyway, I need a mapping program for best trigger effects, for ex: using psi storm at a location (USING TRIGGER :)) and changing the name of Mineral Chunks, Psi Emitters and stuff :) so, i guess SCMDraft does all these right?
DarkMirror
12-03-2007, 3:19 PM
AFAIK, there is no editor that lets you cast Psi storm with triggs.

excuse me, anyway, some cool triggers like in the best movie maps and UMS S.Player... Anyway, please, someone tell me how to install :( :(
SilverCrusader

No need, unzip and run the .exe

just google the map editors, and you'll find em eventually :) Starforge and SCM Draft seem to be the best

Starforge is actually top of the list of BAD editors.
As for downloading, the best place to go is to the creators themselves.

Ok, thanks a LOT guys... it works fine, it's kinda funny what you can do with the terrain :) :)... looks best-suited for me :) thanks again guys ! :D
edit: ... all is good to a point :( :( i don't know how to WRITE triggers :(
Use trigedit classic. It works just like the trigger editor in staredit. (Unless you want to learn all of those boring syntax. :P)

Same with the briefing editor.

So now, I can't run my first map made there :( :( :( :( :( :(
please tell me why :(
TitanWing
12-05-2007, 11:26 PM
...there's nothing in it, that's why. It's just a zealot, lurker, creep colony and some horrible square terrain. No triggers, no nothing.
You even know how to use Staredit? Maps don't read your mind, you need to make them do what you want them to.
SilverCrusader
12-05-2007, 11:31 PM
No, it is because SCMDraft corrupted it. Open it in StarEdit, resave it, and then it will work just fine.
TitanWing

I've NEVER had a corruption problem with SCMDraft...
SilverCrusader
12-06-2007, 6:03 PM
Well, I've had several cases. Any editor other than StarEdit corrupts really. SCMDraft is just as bad as StarForge. There are people who never have had a problem with SCMDraft, but there are people who have. And I've never had a problem with StarForge in the 2 years I've used it.

I had a problem with Starforge on the first map I opened in it...thus causing my distaste for the editor.

I stlll <3 SCMDraft. I just don't like some things about it. It doesn't corrupt all that much though.
TitanWing

I suppose it's more prevalent in UMS maps, melee doesn't break nearly as many rules as most UMS maps.

I suppose it's more prevalent in UMS maps, melee doesn't break nearly as many rules as most UMS maps.
Especially UMS maps made by Heinermann. Rick roll, ftl.
But yeah, SCMDraft has a reputation of being more reliable than Starforge, despite its potential for corruption. Starforge has some major horror stories, while SCMDraft only has some "accidents"

Excuse me, but you still have not answered why my map does not work... :(
SilverCrusader
12-08-2007, 8:53 AM
Well, SCMDraft wasn't the problem it seemed. It was the user >.<
Whenever you lay a doodad, make sure you have terrain under that doodad. All you had was a bunch o' doodads on top space terrain.
ZeratulStukov
12-08-2007, 10:43 AM
well i don't want any terrain to be seen... unless it's square... not like in star-edit... the doodads I used are square or rectangular, because that kind of "terrain" i want on my maps... and how can i make normal terrain square instead of... well that kind of diamond shape it was in StarEdit???? and how to use creep for terrain?
SilverCrusader
12-08-2007, 10:49 AM
You can make square terrain in SCMDraft, go the drag down box where it says isometric, and click on rectangular.
DarkMirror
12-08-2007, 10:49 AM
Try changing the terrain brush to "Square" or "Rectangular"
ZeratulStukov
12-08-2007, 11:30 AM
Okay, I found a "convert to terrain" function and i applied it on doodads... But why I can't play it... Now, I forgot to mention, the error it says is... "You must have at least one computer opponent." ... WTF ???? Download the map again and see the fact that I had set player 2 to Computer
DarkMirror
12-08-2007, 11:44 AM
Use The Square Terran! Not Doodads!
ZeratulStukov
12-08-2007, 11:51 AM
Finally, I got the idea... thanks everyone... :) :)
But, please, don't close the thread, because I may need it... maybe I will have other problems... (hope not :D)
+edit: Darn, :( antoher one... My map is Space Platform tileset... how can I, for example, use Badland water terrain? I can't find it there :( :( ;(
++edit: DOUBLE TRIPLE MEGA ULTRA DARN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
It doesn't work once more.... :( :( :( :( :(
DarkMirror
12-08-2007, 12:19 PM
If you use sapce, you cant use any other tileset dummy.
ZeratulStukov
12-08-2007, 12:21 PM
:) thanks... :) :) teh news: I'm dummy :D
But, why can't I run the map ?? :(
DarkMirror
12-08-2007, 12:22 PM
I dont know. What happens when you try?
ZeratulStukov
12-08-2007, 12:31 PM
try to run the map... :) i posted it a little above
DarkMirror
12-08-2007, 12:39 PM
I'm not going to download a map that uses 1/50 of the space, and has two units. What ahppens when you try to run it?
ZeratulStukov
12-08-2007, 12:42 PM
it says that I must have at least one computer opponent... and player 2 is computer :(
DarkMirror

SilverCrusader
12-08-2007, 2:03 PM
Theres always the possible chance of corruption by SCMDraft. When a map is corrupted, it will get that error.
Mapping is a pain the arse isn't it?
Here's a tip. Don't do a lot then test it. Only do a little, than test. If you somehow made an error it is much easier to fix, and you can slowly build on top of that, that way you won't have a rotten log on which other logs are stacked.
DarkMirror
12-08-2007, 2:49 PM
is map is shit. One corner, a lurker and a zealot. No triggers at all.
I dont think the glitch matters, if it is corrupted.

To be honest 'Stuk, to me the problem seems to be the lack of the computer's start location. Even if you set P2 to be the computer in the player properties it doesn't automatically fill all of the other required gaps. At least that's what I assume to be the issue here.
