Well, here it is. I know it looks empty, but hey. Doodads are cheap, but this isn't an RC map so whatever. This is my first melee map so lay off the comments! (Unless they're helpful)

Having a picture of your map is kind of mandatory on warboards. Try getting it on your first post.

A few things:

1) saying "lay off" just because your new will not help you improve. Ever.

2) Doodads might be "cheap" but they make your map more interesting/pretty. Since you made your map on ashworld, which is almost unanimously boring/ugly, you NEED to use doodads to your advantage. They will make your map memorable and less painful to play on.

3) You made your paths through the map VERY narrow. You need to widen them up. If its a straight narrow corridor, Terran utterly rapes. You need wide open spaces so that Protoss and Zerg can flank.

4) Your mineral placement definitely needs work. Minerals should be arranged in a jagged line - not a blob. Try to make a semicircle around a Command Center as a way to practice at first. The gas should also be a little further from the minerals on one side or the other. Don't leave a gas node in the middle of the minerals. Just..dont.

5) Your start location should have 7-9 minerals and one gas geyser. Mineral only expos should have at least 7-9. Other expose should have ~6 patches of minerals

6) The start locations are unfair. The players have very different expo opportunities, and player 1 is the only one who benefits from high ground ( a HUGE advantage.) They all need the same conditions. Symmetry helps.

7) While we're talking about symmetry, download SCMDraft2 0.8.0. It has an automatic mirroring feature that lets you make a symmetrical map easily. It also has a feature that lets you take pictures, but right now thats the last thing you need to work on. First off you need to make your map playable.

Then use it to follow steps 1-7

The big mineral/gas patch is the closest to red, kinda of unfair.

Polkaman, I certainly hope you were joking. Ungratefulness is generally not appreciated.

I've been around lots of places, and Warboards is the best place to learn melee mapping. But no matter how great this place is, or how experienced of people we have, it is useless if you don't listen or at least consider their advice.

And of course, we don't like being treated poorly. SC's right, I've yet to come across a better site for melee advice (and I've tried ;)).

Bastard.

But yeah, for all the crap we take from some other communities, WB seems to have one of the most helpful melee communities, not to mention modding. UMS is on the upswing, kinda, but we'll see.

There's 3 little checkbox things on the top that say mirror x, y, and x/y. You use those and just start making stuff anywhere. It'll mirror for you.

I'd experiment with each one, or combinations of each one, to get familiar with them.

mirror x-creates exact same terrain across from the original terrain
mirror y-creates exact same terrain below the original terrain
mirror xy-creates exact same terrain diagonal from the original terrain
